Welcome. I'm a new member too. There's a lot of knowledge here in this very welcoming group. The Cruel Sea is a favourite. This one here also has a Norwegian connection: Pursuit The Chase and Sinking of the Bismarck it is also very readable.
And welcome Kanishka too.

Hi Sølvi , delighted to learn that you have such a great resource of older books /editions. One book I thought extraordinarily deeply moving is "We Die Alone" by David Howarth. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
No true Brit. can ever forget the solidarity, tenacity and success with which the Norwegians and British fought as allies during WW2. There's always a lump in my throat at Christmas time when in Trafalgar Square I gaze upon Norway's very, very generous annual gift of a magnificent Christmas tree.

My name is Jonathan, I am 27 years old and I am Italian. I speak a bit of English and German. I have studied history in University of Pisa, where in 2014 I have obtained a Master with a thesis in which I have reconstructed the years 1940-1945 in my territory (the Comune of Massarosa, in Tuscany).
Now I collaborate with the “Istituto Storico della Resistenza e dell’Età Contemporanea in Provincia di Lucca” (“Historic Institute of Resistenza and Contemporary Age in Province of Lucca”), but in the evening I work as pizza chef.
I have very interested in military history of the Second World War, but I have also read some books on the Great War and the Napolic Wars.

Welcome, Jonathan. you have combined two of my great interests: history and pizza.

Let me add my welcome Sølvi. You might be interested in Scharnhorst by Alf Jacobsen which, apart from the history of the ship, its demise and discovery, is very good on the resistance in the Finnmark. And I'm pretty sure it was first published in Norwegian!

Yes, I hope!

Btw I'm from Berlin. Thanks for welcoming me in this group :) Cheers, Kat

Welcome Erik, and I think you'll be right at home here. What a great place to be in and read about Market Garden and the tough winter that followed the operation.

Erikkasper: Welcome, please pitch in!

Welcome Kat, glad you have joined us from one of the great cities of Europe. I have many happy memories of Berlin. Please don't hesitate to jump right into the discussions.

Welcome Erik, very nice to have you here, coming from a key battlefield of WWII. I had the great honor of touring the Arnhem area with a 1st Airborne veteran of the battle, especially the Airborne Cemetery at Oosterbeek.

I am relatively new to WWII, but I'm very avid to read more about it! I'm currently reading The Last Lion 3: Winston Spencer Churchill, Defender of the Realm, 1940-1965, after having read The Second World War .
I love history books and I am looking foward to recommendations of what to read next.
It's great to be here! :)
