Hello everyone, I'm Jonny, I'm 44 and I live in South Shields in the North East of England. I've been a military history fan since I started receiving cast off war comics when I was 6. I started with an interest in military aviation but I've branched out since into a general interest in most aspects of the subject.

Hiiii Everyone,My name is Kanishka Sarkar but Som to my friends. I am from India and am passionate about anything related to World War II be it Fiction or Non-Fiction. I am happy to be between like minded people and will try to contribute to this group as constructively as possible. Looking forward to a pleasant journey with you guys.
Hi, I'm Sølvi (that's a girl's name) in Norway, and I've ended up here basically because we have a lot of books from 1900–1960 at our cabin. My fiancé and I started reading a random one aloud to each other, we initially though it was an old, forgotten maritime book, but it turned out to be the well known and very exciting The Cruel Sea. I have since found it on a lot of bookshelves, even the one I grew up with. We finished it a few weeks ago, and have since been watching movies about the same theme, and since I am in general very eager to learn and explore, I though I'd join this group and find inspiration for other interesting WW2 books to read. I know way too little about a lot of themes. For instance, my grandpa was in the Independent Norwegian Brigade Group in Germany after the war, which I don't really know anything about.
Greetings Som and Sølvi. I joined this group a few months back and have enjoyed it very much, be sure to explore the threads and topics that are of most interest in order to find lots of great reading suggestions.

This one here also has a Norwegian connection: Pursuit The Chase and Sinking of the Bismarck it is also very readable.
And welcome Kanishka too.
Hi Kanishka and Sølvi and let me add my warm welcome to you both as well. I hope you both have a fun time in the group and find a few things of interest.

One book I thought extraordinarily deeply moving is "We Die Alone" by David Howarth. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
No true Brit. can ever forget the solidarity, tenacity and success with which the Norwegians and British fought as allies during WW2. There's always a lump in my throat at Christmas time when in Trafalgar Square I gaze upon Norway's very, very generous annual gift of a magnificent Christmas tree.
Thanks for such a warm welcome, everyone! And for the book tips! I have seen the Oscar nominated Nine Lives which is based on We Die Alone, and I think reading the book would be very interesting too.
Let me add my welcome to Kanishka and Solvi - glad to have you here, be prepared to have your TBR lists incease exponentially :)
Hello everyone. My name is Jonathan, I am 27 years old and I am Italian. I speak a bit of English and German. I have studied history in University of Pisa, where in 2014 I have obtained a Master with a thesis in which I have reconstructed the years 1940-1945 in my territory (the Comune of Massarosa, in Tuscany).
Now I collaborate with the “Istituto Storico della Resistenza e dell’Età Contemporanea in Provincia di Lucca” (“Historic Institute of Resistenza and Contemporary Age in Province of Lucca”), but in the evening I work as pizza chef.
I have very interested in military history of the Second World War, but I have also read some books on the Great War and the Napolic Wars.

You might be interested in Scharnhorst by Alf Jacobsen which, apart from the history of the ship, its demise and discovery, is very good on the resistance in the Finnmark. And I'm pretty sure it was first published in Norwegian!

I had the great honor of touring the Arnhem area with a 1st Airborne veteran of the battle, especially the Airborne Cemetery at Oosterbeek.
Hi everyone,I am relatively new to WWII, but I'm very avid to read more about it! I'm currently reading The Last Lion 3: Winston Spencer Churchill, Defender of the Realm, 1940-1965, after having read The Second World War .
I love history books and I am looking foward to recommendations of what to read next.
It's great to be here! :)
