Hey y'all. I've always loved history and books so the combination of the two is amazing! Historical books about World War II have always been some of my favorite to read. I originally became interested in this era because I often watched movies based on events from then with my dad when I was younger. (I still do) I started getting books about it from my local library a few years ago and have enjoyed reading every one of them. I would defiantly appreciate any suggestions you may have.

Hi Alison, I"m currently based in Bangkok, nice to see another member from Southeast Asia come around. I'll keep an eye out for what you're looking for, but as of yet the closest thing I've seen are romance novels, the subjects being a young Japanese soldier and a Siamese village girl.

Good to meet you!
Hi, I'm an historical novelist who writes books set in Ancient Rome but is now hurtling through time to concentrate on WW2, particularly the Battle of Moscow, the trophy brigades, SMERSH, partisans in the Ukraine and Zhukov's advance into Germany for starters although no doubt this is more than a main course:) Any help would be appreciated.Cheers
Elisabeth
Hi Elizabeth and welcome to the group! I love books on Ancient Rome, I just finished S.P.Q.R. which I really enjoyed. In regards to books on the Eastern Front here is a link to our thread on that subject:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
and I am sure quite a few members will be happy to help with any questions you may have.
HiIf you haven't read already, I'd recommend Forgotten Soldier by Guy Sajer. Heinz Guderian's book is also very well written. The Siege of Leningrad also seems to be a battle largely forgotten or overshadowed by other more famous battles and sub-theaters.
A few years ago I read books on WW2, in order chronologically of their subjects. The Eastern Front seems like a very slim pickings so far, at least to American reader audiences. Good luck in your effort to write a story in this area. Look forward to hearing more.
Greg S.
And there's this for something completely different...http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096250/
Has some sequences inside the siege from what I remember from years ago.

Sound right up my alley. I'm very interested in reading anything about the eastern front. I recommend the following books:
Smersh: Stalin's Secret WeaponVadim J. Birstein, Stalin's Secret War by Nikolai Tolstoy, Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin by Timothy Snyder. There are plenty pf others out there and some lovely people here who can recommend more. Good luck with the book.

If you like the eastern Front, and the partisan war, see my books German Anti-Partisan Warfare in Europe, and Occupation and Insurgency. These books are heavy with interview content from all the players, including US, Italian, Red Army and SS officers.
Hi Everyone,I'm Jill in Gonzales, Louisiana. I'm not new to goodreads but I am just now branching out and finding the groups. I read mostly Military and War History and lately seem to gravitate to WW2. Just from the little I have seen so far, this looks like it will be a great group. I am looking forward to seeing the discussions here and checking out some of your book recommendations.
