THE WORLD WAR TWO GROUP discussion
Introduction to the WW2 Site - Please Say Hi
Hey everyone,My name is Jessica - I joined this group awhile ago and am just now getting around to posting an introduction. I'm really shy, but I love WW2. Anything fiction or non-fiction, if the subject is WW2 I'm in. I especially love anything to do with air combat (and love stories, but that's a whole other topic). Glad to be here!

Welcome, Jessica. Don't be shy here. Just pitch in!
Hi Jessica, good to see you here in the group. I am sure you will find/receive lots of recommendations for good books on the war in the air during WW2. One of my recent favourites has been:
by Adam Makos

Welcome Jessica, great to have you here. Look forward to reading about and discussing the air war with you.
I gave Adam a lot of info for his book, being friends we help each other out. The part of his book dealing with Trautloft and Buchenwald is on my website, www.lewisheatonbooks.com and the info on Franz Stigler, Johannes Steinhoff and the Gestapo is from my interviews with both men, see The German Aces Speak II.

Welcome Jessica, feel free to join in and ask questions or suggest books too.
Hi everyone,I joined the group recently and wanted to introduce myself. I read one or two WWII books a month. My current book is Dictators by Professor Richard Overy of Exeter College. I saw him on a Military History series about the Nuremburg trials, and looked him up.
I'm more well-versed in the European Theater, but last year read a number of Pacific Theater books, including Fly Boys.
I look forward to joining in on discussions, and reading your insights.
Now, I'm off to watch the Chiefs play!
Ronn
Hi Ronn and a warm welcome to the group, I hope you have a fun time here and pick up a few good book recommendations along the way :)
Hello Ronn and Jessica, Welcome to the group! I hope you enjoy our book recommendations and reviews.
Best wishes!

Welcome Ronn, jump into the discussions anytime. BTW, sorry about the Chiefs. I was hoping for a rematch between your Chiefs and my Packers, but not going to be this year. :(

Welcome!
For a combination of non-fiction, aircraft and a love story, I'd highly recommend Nevil Shute's "Landfall" (1940)https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
Hi my name is Celeste and I'm interested in WW2 because my grandfather was born in 1935 and he was a young boy through-out the war and he always reads about WW2 and I want to start reading about WW2 as well
Welcome Celeste, nice to have you in the group. You are certain to find some good book recommendations here.

Hi everyone! Sorry it took so long to introduce myself... I'm Harmony :) I have a BA in History-PoliSci and I concentrated mostly on military history in undergrad. I'm currently a graduate student so if I don't check in regularly it's due to my busy schedule.
But I'm so glad to be a part of this group!
Hi Harmony and welcome to the group, I hope your busy schedule allows you some time to drop in once and awhile :)

Harmony: Welcome and please don't be reluctant to chime in.
Hi everyone,My name's Emily Ann Putzke and I'm a writer, French Resistance reenactor, and history nerd. I'm especially interested in resistance during WWII which inspired me to write a novel based on the true story of Hans and Sophie Scholl —(Resist)
Looking forward to being a part of this group!
Welcome to the group Emily! Nice to have your expertise on the French underground here. Jump right in.
I've just found this group and look forward to learning and contributing. I'm now a researcher and writer mainly in this field, and an enthusiastic consumer of other people's words!I strongly endorse the recommendation for Neville Shute's 'Landfall' above, by the way. I think it's one of his best novels.
Hi everyone. Sorry for the delay in introducing myself. I'm Charles and I am a PhD student in history, concentrating in military history, specifically the western military experience in Asia. My dissertation examines WWII in Southeast Asia. Looking forward to good discussions and good book recommendations!

Hi. My name is Steve. I love reading history books, particularly those about the World Wars. My interests in WW2 started as a child, looking at the pictures in my Dad's WW2 magazine collection, thinking it all looked fun. As I got older, I realised war is ridiculous and futile. I am now more interested in how war affects people, both soldiers and civilians. My main interests in WW2 are the bombing campaigns over Germany and the war on the eastern front, however I have read and will read about other areas.I'm looking forward to seeing recommendations for further reading.
