Hello! I'm Timothy Miyahara and I recently joined both Goodreads and the WW II Group. I studied history at the University of. Southern California, where I learned just enough to know there's "a whole lotta' history out there" and you can always learn more.

This morning I just completed a review of To Hell and Back: The Last Train from Hiroshima, the corrected rewrite of Pellegrino's The Last Train from Hiroshima: The Survivors Look Back. I'm reading about USA tank destroyer units now, but I'll start Evans's The Coming of the Third Reich to join in this month's topic (yes, I know everyone else has already read it, but I have had it for years without getting to it).

I have an interest in all 20th century wars, and a passing interest in the War of Northern Aggression in the mid-19th century.

I hope to learn much and make new friends here in the WW II Group.

Hello, I'm an Irish writer, formerly of fact but now mostly of fiction, with an interest in military and diplomatic/political history especially in relation to that obscure corner of the world, Ireland, where WW2 was known simply as The Emergency. Hi All, Thanks for having me.
My name is Jeremy and I am a WWII Aircaft buff.
I was born in England 1964 (Isle of Wight) so I have a little background in the ETO. I love to read about the air war in Europe.
I lived in Canada 69-79 and was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets.
79- current I have been a resident of the USA. Served in the USAF 1981-84 as a C-130 Crew Chief. I went in with the hope of seeing the world only to be stationed at Dyess AFB, Abilene texas. Ya a real downer, infact didn't even get to fly on a USAF aircraft.
After a 35 year absence I have again taken up my passion of reading about and building model aircraft of WWII mainly Allied aircraft. B-17s, B-25s, Avro Lancasters, Spitfires, P51s and the likes. I also enjoy dioramas.
I remember during my teens I enjoyed reading and collecting the Bantam War Book series. Sadley when I went off to the Airforce my brothers moved my belongings and left everything out in the New Mexico rain and heat. Thus everything from my childhood and teen years was destroyed including my vast collection of books, model planes, and photographs of WWII.

I guess around 8 months ago I decided to buy my wife and I a kindle, Thus my return to two of my life's desires of reading WWII stories and model building.

Some of the great books that I have read lately.
1) My War: The True Experiences of A U.S. Army Air Force Pilot in World War II. By John C walter. 5 stars.

2) MY Father's Friend: One Summer in Hell. by David W Walker. 5 stars

3) Combat Crew: The Story of 25 Combat Missions Over Europe..by John Comer. 5 stars

4) Bird's Eye View. by Elinor Florence. 6 stars.

5) A Higher Call: An Incredible True Story of Combat and Chivalry in the War-Torn Skies of World War II.The Charley Brown, Franz Stigler incident. byAdam Makos. 10 stars, this is a must read. It gave me an insight to the german fighter pilot I had never thought about.

A couple of other books I remember reading long ago that awed me were

1) Reach for the Sky, the story of the legless fighter pilot during the battle of Briton. Douglas Bader.

And a favorite: Catch 22.

Welcome! I'm relatively new as well (1 week). If you are looking for a particular type of model, let me know. I have about a thousand model kits from the 1960s to 2005. or so. I won't be able to build them now, so I probably could get you a kit for a lot less (just s+h etc.) I d rather see them in the hands of someone who appreciates them.

I grew up during WWII. I remember blackouts, and my dad's gas mask and CD helmet, and ration points. I remember a plane going over our house so low I could see the bomb bay doors.

I have lunch every week with a former OSS member who's shared a few stories about England during the war. I once read every cryptography book at the USC library.

Later this year, I hope to have a novel out on an OSS mission to Austria. It's partly based on actual events.

Yeah, Timothy, SC has a lot of memories for me. My youngest son got a Master's from the Annenberg 3 years ago and got married recently at the chapel by Town&Gown. I was in Mudd Hall doing math homework November 22, 1963.

The AFROTC courses usually met at Harvey Mudd in the '80s, so I'm very familiar with it even though it's a math building and I was a history and IR major.
