Welcome Patrick - I think I posted details of your book on the author's page after Suzy mentioned it a couple of weeks ago. Please feel free to contribute and dive right in on the group.
I wanted to say thank you for the chance to join the group - I've always loved history, and had a strong interest in World War II. I really appreciate that there are still new writers and a lot of new scholarship going on. I look forward to recommendations on books, and I hope I can add something from time to time in the discussions.

Hello. I just found this page, totally by accident - it came up when I looked at the list of all groups in GR.I wish I had found this group earlier. It would have helped my research.
Books I read about this subject include:
- Fighting in Hell by Peter G. Tsouras
- Enemy at the Gates by William Craig.
I have recently finished my own book about the era. Army of Worn Soles is, I think, unique, presenting the story of Operation Barbarossa from the perspective of a conscripted Red Army officer who retreated, was captured and then escaped from the POW camp.
Anyway, it's good to see this group is here!
Welcome Scott, a lot of interest in the eastern front here. We also have an author's page where you can go into detail on your book(s).Oops, I see you already found it. Excellent.

Hey gang, glad I found this group! Saw you had a dedicated category for submarine warfare. That's been my passion pretty much since I heard my dad's first war story. He was a plank owner on the USS Atule (SS-403) and served aboard her for all four war patrols in the Pacific. He rejoined the US Navy after the war and was in the diesel boats operating out of Key West in the late 50's (where I was born!)I read just about anything from that era, fiction and nonfiction. I've even published a couple of short stories centering on those diesel submarines on Amazon.
Anyway great to be here and I've already recommended this group to another life long friend. We were in the Air Force together and he tends toward the European Air War. Go figure.
John
Welcome John, you must be very proud of your dad. We just had a buddy read on the Atlantic Ocean campaign in March with a lot of sub action there. Look forward to hearing more from you.

A very warm welcome from the other side of the Atlantic John. Please feel free to join and I'm sure you'll be able to add to our TBRs as we will hopefully to yours :)
Geevee wrote: "A very warm welcome from the other side of the Atlantic John. Please feel free to join and I'm sure you'll be able to add to our TBRs as we will hopefully to yours :)"Many thanks, Geevee! I've already had to add Red Tobruk to my want to read list. -John
Mike wrote: "Welcome John, you must be very proud of your dad. We just had a buddy read on the Atlantic Ocean campaign in March with a lot of sub action there. Look forward to hearing more from you."Thanks, Mike. Yes I was and am. He left for Eternal Patrol in January 1996 but I really remember those nights, sitting at the kitchen table, listening to him talk about his adventures. Hopefully I can relate some of those, they are a little more colorful than the recorded incidents!
happy wrote: "Welcom John - I think you've come to the right place :)"I feel at home already, thanks Happy!
Gerald wrote: "Welcome, John! Don't be shy! Wallflowers get eaten alive by this group!"Thanks for the warning Gerald!
Hi John, good to see you here, a bit later on I will set up a theme read on WW2 submarine warfare. We have three theme reads to go for the rest of this year, I'll be sending out the details soon. Anyhow I hope you enjoy your time with the group.

That would be great, I've already read some of the threads over on the Group & Buddy Reads board. I shouldn't have any trouble finding appropriate reads for the upcoming themes. -John

Hello Everyone. My name is Gary Lee and I too, am glad to be a part of this group and I look forward to learning. I come to WW2 interest through my Father. He was in the Aleutian Island Campaign from June 2, 1942-Sept 1943. He landed on Dutch Harbor one day before Admiral Yamamoto started the Battle of Midway.
After serving in the Aleutians he developed Hep C and was in the hospital when his unit was attached to the 3rd Army w/Patton.
He couldn't ship out with them. My dad had been raised in a house that only spoke German. So when G2 found out he was sent to oversee interrogations of German POW's.
He was a mess sgt and so he ran the kitchens, and oversaw the POW's they had working in the kitchens also.
I am a voracious reader and look forward to interacting.
GL.
Welcome Gary - Be prepared to watch your TBR list grow exponentally! Please feel free to join in when ever you feel comfortable. We don't bite :)
Hi Gary and welcome to the group, I hope you find a few things of interest here and please join in on any of the threads that take your fancy.
My writing ideas have exploded and now spawn what I assume will end up being a series of books to rival the OED.... I have about 10 different topics, all of which spawned from wanting to know more about the Japanese-American internment, including Japanese and German (and maybe Italian?) Latin-Americans, German and Italian POWs being interned in the US, as well as post-war prisoner exchanges, etc. etc. I need minions.

Forgive my ignorance...OED? Selena wrote: "My writing ideas have exploded and now spawn what I assume will end up being a series of books to rival the OED.... I have about 10 different topics, all of which spawned from wanting to know more ..."
The Oxford English Dictionary. It's a 20 volume set of dictionaries. I like bananas. And if that's all it takes....
Ohhhhh. So the next question is, what do you want these minions to do? You can email that to me if you like, I might be willing to do some grunt work. Selena wrote: "The Oxford English Dictionary. It's a 20 volume set of dictionaries.

hi. my name is Jeanne Ruczhak-Eckman. I am a writer and genealogist. it is the latter that has taught me how important history is!
hi Jeanne, I hear you. My uncles and family traced the family roots, and then I took it up, going back to AD 635, quite few interesting people in that chart. The history incredible.

Hi Jeanne. I am an ammeter genealogist as well, though that's taken a backseat at the moment with my other interests. Unfortunately most of my family is uninterested, but I'm glad I've found some comrades.
