New member here. I also moderate a Goodreads Group called 'WWII Spy Novels'; in case anyone wants to chat about WWII espionage. Only 33 members...I think we're succumbing to 'sophomoric slump'! I'm going to make sure all my peeps are dual-members here if they aren't already.

Thanks mate. Cooee, its right queer how the discussion-topic structure o' both these groups seems to have come up separate-like, but in th' same way, wot? If ye ken my meanin'?'Battles'..'Campaigns'..'Personalities'..too odd by half!

Welcome, Feliks. Quite the handle you've selected.
Not without reason. Without intending to acquire notoriety, I have somehow managed to attain a 'ruthless' reputation around Goodreads, unfortunately. Although you will not find me to be abusive towards any Goodreads member, and you will never hear me use an expletive: still, I am known for a degree of --well--bluntness in debate. When I am sure of my ground, I stick to my guns. But, among a group of learned WWII aficionados--men who know their topic--I doubt there will be any cause to 'butt-heads'. You'll find me cordial. I consider it a privilege to participate in a knowledge-rich environment as this must certainly be.
:)
p.s. I did a fairly diligent job of adding books to my groups' communal bookshelves--it was easier a job than you probably had, as in espionage there are mostly fiction titles in our purview. Probably tons more non-fiction books written about WWII, which you had to corral. Your shelf is extensive.
Still, (for my guys) I added in whatever nonfiction also seemed relevant. And of course, general-interest war classics like, 'Guadalcanal Diary'. They're probably all duplicated here.
Are members allowed to add titles to the shelves here? I was just trying to determine whether you have books by Edward N. Luttwak in your group shelf--and I couldn't seem to arrive at a conclusion.

Nothing wrong with a robust debate as long as it does not get personal or offensive, otherwise all is good :)
Kimberly wrote: "Wanted to say hi to the group. Excited to join and looking forward to some discussion."Welcome, Kimberly. Please don't be shy about pitching in.
I bring the party! See what I mean? The mortar merrier!heh.
As for "what goes" and "what doesn't go"--well, its like I always say: in a debate (especially an 'internet debate') its always the references and the corroboration which count. If you show me I haven't got the right data supporting my opinion, I will salute you. Like Robin Hood: 'I admire the man who bests me'. I live by the credo: 'back up your claims'. So, when I'm around people who abide by that same philosophy--everything is just jake. Its when I'm around folks who are sloppy with their data- sources that I get branded the 'miscreant' and the 'troublemaker'. I've been kicked out of four GR groups this year already. Sheesh.
Anyway I offer this info 'just to make a clean breast of it'. Y'all really shouldn't have any issue with me. I just want people to speak from what they know and not float disinformation and opinion around as fact. Its the golden rule, really. Know where to draw the line. Respect truth and respect method. I'm a pretty quiet guy, actually. Because I abide by this principle!

Hi all Just joined the group as you can see from my collection I have a large number if world war 2 books so this group seemed like an obvious choice .
One if the things I have noticed is how few of the older great World War Two books are on here which means for those of us as librarians we spend a fair bit of time creating of books . But I love being able to add a book that others may find interesting
Looking forward to discussing our books
Oh and today's read ; kiwi battlefields in honor of Anzac Day
Ps I'm an Australasian , an Australian who lives in New Zealand
Welcome to the group Wendy. Jump right in but look out, we might add a few more 'must-have' books to your collection.

Do you mean few of the older WW II books are on GR (as opposed to on this thread)? I have plenty in my personal library. Do you have examples?

Welcome Wendy and please feel free to join in. Like Manray9 I have many older books so if it's adding details I'm sure we can help.
Hi manray and geevee Yea there are a fee that either he newer reprints are on here or the book has never made if on I will admit I prefer to get the older copies as they haven't necessarily been cleaned up so to speak for newer readers .
I also look forward to finding LOTS more books I don't have right now :)
Thank you for the awesome welcome to the group
I bet it's a beautiful area, I loved NZ when I visited there a few years ago, almost time to go back and see more!
Welcome aboard Wendy. Back in the early '80's, did spend a few enjoyable months at the Waiouru military camp humping the hills, gully's and valley's. Loved it up there.
Let me add my welcome to WendyWelcome
NZ is definately on my to visit list one day. My SIL spent her senior yr of High School (30+ yrs ago)there on a sheep ranch - still talks about going back
If you are ever ordering books for your library, let me recommend A PEOPLE'S HISTORY OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR: RESISTANCE VERSUS EMPIRE (Donny Gluckstein). I am only part way through this, but it's very good, and talks about a lot of stuff the mainstream narratives completely ignore.
Welcome Jolie, hope you enjoy your time here and watch out for rapid TBR shelf growth. It happens here.
Wendy wrote: "thanks Doubledf99.99 nice to see a kiwi vet as part of the group :o)"Oooooppppps, I Didn't mean to foster a misunderstanding, i was there with US Army, we went there for some high speed training..

While in NZ did have a weekend stand-down where we went on a trip to Wellington, had a great time, bout the only thing I remember is getting beat badly at darts and drinking lots and lots Steinlager beer.

Welcome aboard Max, and enjoy the reading.
To all newcomers, this is the premiere site anywhere on the internet to satisfy WWII cravings and knowledge. It doesn't get any better.

Welcome to the group, Max. Jump right in. We prefer to keep politics out of our discussions, unless it has a direct bearing on the battle, campaign, etc. Hope you find some areas of interest here.
Hello y'all,I'm a fiction writer these days, but I know a very great deal about two weeks in June 1942, when Churchill rushed over the Atlantic to take Roosevelt's pulse on the war. I also know a few things about BSC, the British Security Coordination, and I just might know the truth about William Stephenson, including a few mistakes the great Tom Troy (might have) made in his CIA pre-history, Wild Bill and Intrepid. I'd love to give you my author's page at Amazon, as well as my web page, G+, etc., but I don't know the group's policy on such matters. Any advice? Jeff.
