Welcome to the group Mike.

I’m a life-long Red Sox fan and years ago during my first Yankees/Red Sox game in the late 60’s I got 3 Yankee autographs; Fritz Peterson, Jim Bouton and Dooley Womack, as they boarded the bus to head out of town. I lived for a year on 65th & Madison Ave in NYC and I will admit the Yankees are my #2 team. Now residing in the south I often took my young sons to the Greensboro Bats single A Yankee games only a few miles away and as luck would have it the oldest is a true Yankee fan (Bernie Williams favorite) and roots against me! Oh well back to war conversation…

Fritz Peterson was involved in the infamous wife-swapping scandal on the Yankees.

Welcome. Please pitch right in.

Welcome, Welcome

I don't drink wine, so you don't have to worry about that anyway.

Hi, Jrrocks1,
I love European 20th century history, chocolate, reading and cats. :-)
Welcome to the group.

Hey, Jrrocks1, don't listen to these guys. They might be a bad influence on you. Better stick with Happy. He is a teetotaler.
:-)

I might join you, Happy. I am mainly fantasizing. I rarely have a glass of wine. I am old enough and wise enough to know that wine doesn't agree with me. I do better with hard liquor, but I don't care much for hard liquor. So I am a teetotaler most of the time.

My husband is a total teetotaler (except for New Years Eve when I force half a glass of champagne on him at midnight). He is almost vegan. In other words: He is much holier than I am. :-)

Join whom, Jrrocks? The drinkers or the teetotalers?
Be careful. I'll be watching over you. :-)

Hi, Mike. Welcome to the group. I'm afraid we'll soon have to number all the Mikes.
Hey Rick! How many Mikes do we have by now?

If you like memoirs, I would like to recommend the following book to you:

My Name Was Five: A Novel of the Second World War
The author, Heinz Kohler, is also a member of our group.
You might want to read my review of this book. Here is the link:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I also will have a memoir come out soon. It still needs a book cover and photo-collages.

So you're a teetotaler who does better with hard liquor and a vegetarian with a fondness for pork roast and dumplings. A riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.

It is actually quite simple: I always loved wine but never took it too well. While I never drank hard liquor on a regular basis, I have on rare occasions consumed quite a big quantity without getting drunk and without suffering any hangover. But this was quite a few years ago.
Roast pork and dumplings have been my favorite dish from childhood on. But since my husband and I are animal lovers, we have always struggled with eating brutally murdered, innocent animals -- especially pigs, which are such close relatives to humans. I have discontinued buying (cruelly raised) factory-farmed meat. I, meanwhile, eat much less meat and buy only humanely raised, grass-fed beef and wild-caught fish, which I eat with bad conscience while my dear, sweet husband (who is so much holier than I am) tries to spoil my appetite.
I would like to quote Wilhelm Busch, who said: "Sie haben alles hinter sich und sind gottlob recht tugendlich." ("They have everything behind them and are -- thank God -- quite virtuous.") :-)

I have known a number of humans who were very close relatives to swine :).
