Hello,

My name is Philippe. I am Belgian born and naturalized US citizen. I am mostly interested in WWII European theater, especially the lesser know aspects of it. Everybody knows about the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium, but few have any idea for example of the May 1940 campaign from a Belgian standpoint. I have been amazed how a good many books had been translated in English. I am also fascinated by the Russian campaign, not because I admire the Germans but by the fact of how human beings on both sides can endure such misery and continue to function and survive.

Philippe, I see you are from Cockeysville, MD... I lived in neighboring Frederick County for 12 years. Much history in Maryland - especially of the Civil War - including the Battle of Gunpowder Falls in your town. There is also some important WWII history in your area... the ordnance museum at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, and the Coast Guard Cutter Taney (WHEC-37) now on permanent display at Baltimore's Inner Harbor. The Taney, for those who do not know, was at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th, 1941, she engaged the Japanese with anti-aircraft fire, and survived the attacks fully operational. The Taney saw duty in both the Atlantic and Pacific in WWII, and served as a command ship during the Battle of Okinawa for Rear Admiral Calvin Cobb. Taney had a long history of service with the US Coast Guard before and after WWII... she was involved in the search for Amelia Earhart in the South Pacific and also saw duty in Vietnam and was still an active duty ship when I served in the CG in the late 70's and early 80's. I would highly recommend a tour of the ship if you visit the Inner Harbor of Baltimore.

Hello everyone.

A quick introduction - I'm an avid fan of military history, currently based in Frankfurt, Germany, though have been based in Manila for almost the past three decades, working in the international development arena across Asia. Also have a new book on military history coming out this September, The Devil's Causeway, which I'll post more about on the author page, part of a trilogy that I hope will take us up to the Battle of Manila. Looking forward to some interesting reads and great discussion!

Hi all - I'm Brian 63 yrs old and live in Pine Bush, NY. Life longer reader and lover of history.

I have read a number of World War II books, both non-fiction and non-fiction. A large number of the non-fiction have been about the Pacific theater (as a U.S. Marine Corps veteran it is almost required).

As I read, I realized that I would like a broader overview of WWII. Found your group while looking for books that would fit the bill.

I'm currently reading:

Very much so! The Battles of Manila, Coreigidor, Leyte and the Bataan Death March are probably the most well known events of World War 2 here at home. Would love to get to share stories (though admittedly I have very few to share if any) with you guys here. Thanks again for letting me join!
