Chapter 5 is Alanna's second year as a page. She also starts to grow breasts (which she hates) and we meet Duke Roger of Conte in person, whom Alanna doesn't trust from the first moent she lays her eyes on him. This chapter is (I believe) the first time that Alanna might be protected by the Gods (Coram says this). Alanna also brings Jon to meet George and buys her mare Moonlight. In her studies, fencing is added and Alanna finds that she is not that good with a sword. But of course, that won't stop her. (If there are any inaccuracies, please forgive me. I'm exhausted.)

Allie (pearlrose95) I love her reaction to her chest. She just is so annoyed, and doesn't get that it has to happen. And I love how nice George is with the horse and Jon, and how they become good friends.

George is a sweetie, definitely. And the interaction he has with Jon is priceless: "Kings and princes should be friendly, wouldn't you agree?" :-) I don't know that this is necessarily the first time Alanna has the gods' eyes on her/protection. Since the first chapter she's been getting that vision of the city, which is likely from the goddess. This is the first time the goddess's protection may have been needed, and thus detected.

I like her reaction to failing in the fencing match with Sacherell. She feels down, naturally, but she doesn't give up, and instead works twice as hard.
