I am wracking my brain trying to recall a book I read about a teen boy who escaped from a concentration camp underneath a truck. I'm trying to recall the details, but I am coming up with very little. I seem to remember his mom smuggling scraps of bread for his journey. He hides for hours under the truck holding onto the axels waiting for the truck to leave the camp. He hears the Germans questioning his family members and sees their feet. I believe they brutally beat his mother she is eventually shot and he hears/sees this happening. Does this ring any bells for anyone? I hope so because I have done an extensive search on Google and Amazon and can't seem to locate it.

Ah-ha! I solved my own dilemma today! The book was "A Brief Lunacy" by Cynthia Thayer. It occurred to me today that the story I was trying to recall was a work of fiction and not a true Holocaust survivor's account as I had hoped. I began to recollect that it was a subplot of a larger work. At that point, I was able to recall other details of the main plot which aided in me in my search.
