Karen mccleskey | 1 comments i love it, it makes me think out of the box. to think that perhaps i could be walking down the sidewalk and something is in front of me and i can't see it--a fifth dimension. anyone have any favorite qm authors

Shanna | 4 comments Okay so I can no longer remember the title and my google search has been fruitless... about 10 yrs ago there was a book about traveling through dimenions and living in a 2-D world, and it was contrasted against a 4 and 5-D world. It was a book read for school (geometry more precisely) and I have been looking for it for years. Has anyone heard or read of a book similiar to the one described?

Oh, and yes Karen the possiblity of walking into the worlds isnt so much what I daydream about..but something quite similiar.

The bending of time...which may prove to be the same thing...like those glimpses of the familiar we call Dejavu and the way those extremely spiritual people may seem to see a reality not yet happened. If they could simply be glimpsing those folds. Living without time...the impossiblity? If the time we think of is just a measure of distance to get from point A to point B then could there ever really be an existence without time? And at what point is something real...when we deal with subatomic particles the knowledge of their existence promotes the idea that believing (in reality) doesnt mean necessarily seeing. I wouldnt say particles are not a part of reality but when it isnt something tangible in its remote form at what point do we stop saying it exist. How infinitely small do we still quantify material as existing...? That is what I wonder often.

Shanna were you maybe looking for The Holographic Universe?

Shanna | 4 comments That doesnt sound familiar...I thought I might recognize the title. I will check that book out though in the mean time...something interesting it sounds. Thanks Iva...

Shanna | 4 comments Actually someone found and PM'd me...the name is Flatland. I realize it was a highschool read, but I did love the book the first time through after I make way with my current to-read list I have every intention of reading it again this year.

Elizabeth, thanks for looking...although, that book seems equally interesting. Might have to add that to my reading list as well.

Mike Torres (recalcitrantmisanthrope) | 8 comments Where does edwin abbey talk about dimensions above 2? Either way, remember to read as something akin to gullivers travels, a satire of separate spheres ideology.

Shanna | 4 comments Mike, it has indeed been a bit over a decade since I last read this book, and I am pulling from memory of then...but I swore that I remember the characters touching on moving through dimensions into at least 4-6-D. Regardless, I will definitely be making this a re-read in the near future so I will make sure to write back in the events that my memory is just that faulty. Yes, I guess it could be similiar to Gullivers travels, but I thought that it actually required more imagination. Again, as soon as I re-read this I will be open to discuss it further if you want.

Adam Flatland doesn't talk about anything beyond 3-D, when the Sphere comes into the book. 4 through 6 are never discussed.

There have been other books that added onto this like Flatterland and other titles like that. Rudy Rucker discusses the other types of books in his book The 4th Dimension: Toward a Geometry of Higher Reality

Anyway, I won't be choosing any favorite QM authors until I sit down and learn what QM is and talks about in terms of mathematical modelling, which is the best way to understand QM anyway.

Mike Torres (recalcitrantmisanthrope) | 8 comments Are you talking about quantum mechanics? Because if so, I am always down for nerd chat, as well as guitarspeak also fun.
