I really liked Zoo Station and I'm up to the 4th in the series now. I continue to find the complex life John Russell leads very interesting.
As for the Montalbano mysteries, have you ever seen the TV adaptations that have appeared on Italian TV? We can get them with subtitles here.

Enjoyed this book so much that I want to offer a copy in a giveaway.

A decent thriller in the world of Cotton Malone. Not as good as previous adventures with the main character but still decent.

Pretty sure I'm one of the last people on the planet who hasn't read it. :)
What I'm hearing:
1) Larson, I've been told, loads the book with allusions to his political activism: anti-nazism, strong opinions on the use of technology, Sweden's abhorrent record of violence against women (sexual slavery) and that's just in the first few chapters.
2) There is graphic violence that made a few of my friends put the book down. All of said friends said it was well-written, but they just couldn't take it.
3) My favorite writer, Elmore Leonard said, "I tried that book by the Swedish fellow. Kept waiting for something to happen.” He put it down.
4) I read Larson turned in the manuscript literally days before his death and his long-time partner was screwed out of his will? Anybody know?
5) I'm looking forward to sharing some thoughts with my fellow mystery readers! :)

I couldn't disagree more. It depends on the violence and the what and where whether it turns me off or not. With all apologies to the genuine four legged kinds, many people are pretty base animals, many more than should be, you would think, in a world where one is supposed to be taught that the human species is pretty special in a number of ways! You really can't tell it like it is in any other way. Child and other forms of domestic abuse as well as illegal practices being very common in order to keep the tide of profits coming in at a high rate, legal or illegal business being beside the point. And some perverted tastes and fanatical extremists aren't all that that rare either. To each his own! I can see, too, not being able to take it. Sometimes I can't as well. But on this one I didn't have a problem. I really liked the three books. Read them in succession, and really felt good about the way things came together in the end with some transformations and rather a better promise for a better life for a youngster on the verge of adulthood, one in which she knows more how to use her potential with a background more human oriented and related than she had ever been allowed to have before.

I loved Fallen. Karin Slaughter just seems to be getting better and better.

I did not find Girl with the Dragon Tattoo riveting from the get-go; it took a while for me to get into it. But then I was enthralled.
I also read the books one after the other and I liked the first one best. As far as violence is concerned, I agree with Elli. I generally avoid books which contain graphic violence, but I accepted the violence in this novel as relevant to the themes and the plot and not just gratuitous.

"Dahmer's Not Dead" is a well-researched police procedural mystery. The plot is woven carefully. It's a can't-put-down book for mystery lovers. I'm now about 70% into the book. Well, I could only hope the ending is great and not occult related.

Totally agree, mind you, I still have to read
Triptych and Fractured - Karin Slaughter

Fiona, in my view you should be running, not walking, to the nearest library / bookshop! :)
You might want to start with Triptych, seeing as it's the first in the Atlanta series.

I agree, Karin Slaughter is one of my favourites. I have four or her books on my shelf to read; Triptych, Fractured, Undone, and Broken.

Susan, I have read all of Tess Gerritsen books..i loved all of them. I had the chance to chat with her at B&N, what a wonderful person. Happy Reading!

Just started Laura Lippman's The Most Dangerous Thing. It starts out great.

Great choice for the anniversary! I just read the book last month and am tempted to dip in again.

Bill, Genesis (that's what the UK calls it) and Broken are before Fallen :-)

Yay for The Beekeeper's Apprentice! I'll never know why I waited so long to read it. I'm currently eagerly awaiting the arrival of a second-hand copy of the next book in the series.

So I have another book to go out and purchase. :0) I do wish that countries wouldn't change the names of books, especially between North America and the UK. I have bought books before because of that, not realizing they were the same book. I remember buying Alistair MacLean's The Black Shrike and The Dark Crusader, not realizing they were the same..

They are making a movie out of this book. Comes out in January starring Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock. Not to far in but enjoying the young boy.

I haven't seen the film of Everything Is Illuminated but understand that the movie scrapped the historical/magic realist part of the plot. Maybe they will do some of that with this one.

Just put it on my TBR list.

Thanks Gor93ous I didn't know about that one but I do have his Endurance and Trapped to listen to yet :) I might have missed the Dracula one as I'm not really a horror fan ... well not when there's vampires or zombies or such, I just can't get myself into those sorts of books so tend to skip over such titles or covers. Like I should have with Horns, I would have enjoyed that so much more without the 'horns' LOL
I haven't got around to getting Shaken yet (Jack Daniels #7) but look forward to that too, someday :)

I added this book to my ever growing TBR, I love Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock!!!
