Finally finished Shut Your Eyes Tight and I did like it alot. Not alot of action but more of layers and layers. Definitely a thinking person's type of mystery, but very well written.
Just finished Scarpetta, my first by Cornwell, and thought the title character was an interesting concoction. Flawed and not overly heroic with the case solved by committee rather than the typical near perfect protagonist.
I just started Absolution By Murder by Peter Tremayne. Its is a read for my book club, and it is pretty good thus far.
Susan wrote: "I just started Absolution By Murder by Peter Tremayne. Its is a read for my book club, and it is pretty good thus far."I really like the Sister Fidelma series! And I really like Peter Tremayne's writing and what he brings to the reader for that period and in that place in history.
I've started a non-fiction, Letters of a Woman Homesteader edited by Elinore P. Stewart. It was collected and edited in 1914, and it really a joy to read! The writer was a woman, a widow with a young daughter who came west to try to start a new life in the west. The letters were written from the Utah-Wyoming border area to her former employer in Denver. The woman is so very upbeat no matter what has happened and capable almost beyond belief. She explains that she and her brothers and sisters lost their parents within a short time of each other, and rather than split up and live with relatives, they decided to stick together at their grandmothers and make a go of it. And to do this, they all had to work colossally hard and do tasks that most people even then would not have realized that they needed doing. Her writing style amplifies in a beautiful way who she is and what she does...her attitudes and observations are making the book shine for me. I'm glad it was recommended to me because I'm not sure I would have found it or chosen it on my own!
Today Pick up no. 3 Commisario BrunettI by Donna Leon. Imagine I will go right through the series; it really appeals!
Stefanie wrote: "just started with Little Bee by chris cleave"Brought this home from the library Friday but wont be able to start it until later next week. Didn't read it when it first came out because all the bookclubs picked it up but now so many people have said they really liked it that I decided to give it a try. Will wait to see what you think.

one of my friends recommended it to me. she said its the best she read in a while. will let you know what I think about it...

My grandparents and their two daughters (my mother and my aunt) homesteaded in MT in 1915, the original 640 acres of the home ranch was the original homestead.
I have just started the last book in the Peculiar Crimes Unit series that I have not read and am getting nervous waiting for the author to release a new one. I love this series......witty, sly and eccentric. A real joy.

I finished The House at Sea's End by Elly Griffiths. It's the 3rd in a series about an archaeologist, Ruth. Archaeology drew me to the series and Ruth keeps me. She is a great character! I recommend this series to everyone.

I am currently reading The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. I'm reading two other books along with this one, so I'm not as far along as I should be but all in all it has started out pretty good.
I've read most if not all of Reginald Hill and I love the Dalziel and Pascoe books. Maybe I should check out Christopher Fowler.
I just finished 9 dragons by Michael Connelly. Kept me surprised up to the last page. It also had some great history of Hong Kong and Chineese customs.Michael Connelly
Finished the terrific The Ghosts of Belfast. Fegan, guilt-ridden from his role during the troubles in Northern Ireland, tries to ease his conscience by exacting revenge for the ghosts who haunt him and his actions and the actions of others, both new and old to the cause, jeopardize the hard won fragile peace. An intense and violent but a very personal look at a soldier who must come to terms with his past.
diane,I finished Little Bee this morning. I am actually not sure what to think of it. there were parts I really liked and others where I just thought what is this aiming at. I gave 3 stars in the end.started with Beside the Sea by veronique olmi
Diane wrote: "Does anyone read Reginlad Hill's Daziel and Pascoe series? Reminds me a little of Fowler."I've read a few of those and they are pretty good.
Just finished A Death in Summer. Good entry in the series. Just starting Northwest Corner which is a sequel to Reservation Road, which I really liked.
finished Beside the Sea after a few hours reading. was a very short but highly touching story with a horribly sad ending :( now reading Chosen by p.c. cast
Recently started Lumen by Ben Pastor. A very unusual mystery set in German occupied Poland in 1939 in which a German army captain and an American catholic priest must work together to solve the murder of a local mystic, Mother Kazimierza.

I just finished Without Fail by Lee Child. It wasn't one of his best book and took me a while to finish it. I started Think of a Numb3r by John Verdon yesterday.
I just finished the first book in the Simon Serrailler series by Susan Hill, The Various Haunts of Men. DCI Serrailler was barely in the book, but I really like the other characters and am looking forward to reading the second installment.
Finished The Sixes and I ahve to say I was underwhelmed, didn't hate it but didn't love it either. Writing was a bit simplistic or stilted. Starting Killed at the Whim of a Hat by Colin Cotterill and Misterioso by Arne Dahl. (something seem to be wrong with this site, nothing much is working right or is it just my computer?)
Margot wrote: "I just finished the first book in the Simon Serrailler series by Susan Hill, The Various Haunts of Men. DCI Serrailler was barely in the book, but I really like the other characters and am looking..."I first read
by Susan Hill which I think is #5 in the series and liked it so well that I looked for other Serrailler books. I was somewhat disappointed with
since the main character barely made an appearance.....but I think they are certainly worth the read.
Finished Dressed to Kill by Donna Leon, the third in the Brunnetti series. These are becoming a habit. One I like!
I just finished "Graveyard Eyes" by David Checko. It is an interesting Police procedural set in Istanbul where the author lives part time. There is a decent discount for the e-version, from the paperback price, on Amazon.I am about a third of the way through "Open Source". For a 99 cent special it is quite good, at least to this point. My recent experiences with the self published, very low cost e-books hasn't been very good. But, to this point I am enjoying the story.
Jill wrote: "Margot wrote: "I just finished the first book in the Simon Serrailler series by Susan Hill, The Various Haunts of Men. DCI Serrailler was barely in the book, but I really like the other characters..."I just finished The Woman in Black: A Ghost Story by the same author, fantastic.
Mary wrote: "Jill wrote: "Margot wrote: "I just finished the first book in the Simon Serrailler series by Susan Hill, The Various Haunts of Men. DCI Serrailler was barely in the book, but I really like the oth..."Liked this one also, can't wait to see the movie now.
Nearly finished with Breaking Silence by Linda Castillo. Interesting plot and the look into the Amish people and their way of life is very different and fascinating. Unfortunately, the "dysfunctional law enforcement officer" is still very much alive and well and intrusive. While I will probably continue to read these from the library as they come out I don't think this series is likely to end up on my list of "favorites" anytime soon.
