Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Gave up on The Bride Stripped Bare - Nikki Gemmell. But has found a delicious book and it's The Way You Look Tonight - Claire Matthews.

This is one of my favorite Wallander books. The new season III is totally out of sync with the last Wallanders. I cannot figure out who the woman is that he is living with and where she came from in the episode titled An Event in Autumn.

Apparently her name is Vanja? And the little boy? I could listen Alan Cummings introduce it all night! (Although Diana Rigg was pretty great, too.)

Actually as I got into it, I discovered that I had read at least some of them before and had reviewed this one! Gosh, so many books I want to read, and so little time in comparison to get that reading done.....

message 7859: by Elli (new)

Elli | 228 comments I think John Lawton is a pretty great author. He's well rounded on the subjects he chooses to write about...and I'm never too far away from the WW1 & 2 periods, and he is not difficult to read. A very drawing you into it until you a crucial player as well, sort of like Alan Furst in that way. And just the right amount of humor and amount of disrespect for revered traditions to give it color and personality, certainly not iconoclastic. And everybody, but everybody is human...no matter how above it all they are trying so hard to be....

LOL Jeanie. I'd bet you weren't picturing Tom Cruise while you were reading it.

I finished Trickster's Point, another great entry in this wonderful series. Now I'm happy to be starting Delusion in Death. I'm going to try to force myself not to speed-read through it like I usually do with these books.

I've found the best way to really enjoy Jack is to leave a great deal of your rational brain behind. Some of the books in the series are completely believable, and others... not so much. So, when you read them (or listen to them like I do)just sit back and enjoy Jack, himself, and his ability to, not only unwillingly get caught up into some impossible situation, but also his ability to fight his way out of it! If you do that, you'll never fail to be entertained by these books.

You're in sooo much trouble. (laughing) I have a very accurate picture of Jack in my brain... and no, that picture does not resemble "he who shall not be named" in any way. (grin)

message 7868: by Bill (new)

Bill I just finished Six Suspects, a mystery set in India, by the author of Slum Dog Millionaire (the book was titled Q&A) and I quite enjoyed. I liked the way the book was formatted; introducing the suspects, working through how they ended up at the crime scene and the final resolution. I'm over half way through A Clash of Kings and have been totally enjoying. About to start A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. Dick.

I'm finding that to be the case in more and more books lately. Fortunately, that's usually not much of a problem for me :)

Iron Lake was fabulous! After re-reading The Camel Club & finding a copy of Dust and Shadow: An Account of the Ripper Killings by Dr. John H. Watson for the group reads, I'll be starting Boundary Waters. Can't wait!

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) This morning I finished The Way You Look Tonight - Claire Matthews, which was a good short story Chick Lit. Now I have finally decided to read Design on a Crime - Ginny Aiken.

I have decided to do an A-Z of Authors over the next 12 months, plus add other books into the mix. Meaning reading at least 2 letters a month if possible.

Hi Gatorman, Have you seen the TV series Luther on the BBC?

message 7882: by [deleted user] (new)

I recently finished reading the entire Phryne Fisher mystery series by Kerry Greenwood-- 18 volumes so far and a new installment on the way. Very fun series I highly recommend for anyone looking for a lighter historical mystery series.

Currently reading the Alafair Tucker mystery series by Donis Casey. I've finished the first three, The old buzzard had it coming, Hornswoggled and The drop edge of yonder and they were fantastic. Historically accurate and wonderful characterizations. I just started the 4th book, The sky took him. A terrific, under-rated series. Right now you can get the first book for free for Kindle and the subsequent volumes at a reduced price.

If it's possible to have a favorite publisher, then I have one-- Poisoned Pen Press is killing my book reading budged, but these 2 mysery series, plus all of the other's I've purchased since I got my Kindle for iPad have been well worth the cost.

Sharon Michael | 674 comments Oh, my ... one of those! Gnome on the Range by Jennifer Zane

I got this book anticipating a rather light, humorous almost 'cozy' type of mystery plus I lived most of my life in the area where it is set.

It is funny, but not for the reasons the author intended.

Note to authors, if you're going to write about something you know nothing about, particularly if it involves the incident the plot revolves around, at least talk to someone who can tell you that 'it doesn't work that way" ...

Just finished The Killing Game by Jay Bonansinga, good writing but the story got too over the top for me as it went along--probably give it a 3.5.

Reading The Tethered Goat by Jeremiah Healy.

Alex (alexe11) | 74 comments Just finished The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson a very long read which would have benefited from the services of a good editor. Starts right at the point that The Girl Who Played with Fire finished. I'm glad I've read it but there were big chunks that could have been left out that were quite frankly really boring consequently it took me nearly 4 weeks to finish! Have now started Killing Hour by Andrew Gross.

I felt the same about the first book, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. One boring page I still remember is one that lists all of the items the girl bought at Ikea.

The next day, I got the email telling me that Reunion in Death was ready to check out so... I will be reading both of them! I'm in LOVE with the In Death series & really enjoy Lisa Gardner's writing style. Looking forward to both of them! :-)

Sharon Michael | 674 comments Well into The Gauguin Connection (Genevieve Lenard, #1) by Estelle Ryan which is a new author for me and I'm finding this both a bit different from the usual internation mystery/thriller and a page-turner despite not having a great deal of action and pages of investigation detail.

Not what I'd expect to be high on my favorites list but I think it's going to end up there.
