Currently Reading? Just Finished?
I am amazed at how current her book seems. She gives her views on women's issues that feels very modern and current. Can't believe it was written in the 30's. I love her too.
No cozies at the moment. More hard-core stuff-- The Concrete Blonde
, One Shot
, and 11/22/63
. I guess this last isn't really a mystery but it feels like one where I'm at in the book because he's trying to change a history that is of course very familiar to me into something unknown.
Started Prince Of Fire by Daniel Silva after completing Forfeit by Dick Francis, which was a bit of a boring read for me, so looking forward to enjoying "PRINCE OF FIRE".

I had read a couple of Sayers, Whose Body? and Strong Poison. Strong Poison reminded me strongly of Sad Cypress of Agatha Christie. The modus operandi of the culprits of both the books were very similar to each other.

It is scary to me not only because of the story which is original but I guess if you are over 60, it is all too real a scenario. I find it a bit depressing as well but I have to finish it. I can tell. Still have my schedule. Reading
when I can in the late afternooon and evening and finishing
late night. Now I have to find time for turn of mind. Wish there were more hours in the day. Aloha
I just finished
by Janet Evanovich. I love the series! This one was okay, not quite as funny as some of the others.

Anirban - Agatha Christie is another author I haven't read a great many books by, but I've been starting to reintroduce myself to her writing this past year. I'm finding the stories with these older detectives; Agatha Christie's Poirot or Marple, Elizabeth Daly's Henry Gamadge and now maybe, Dorothy Sayer's Lord Wimsey, nicely engaging and comforting..

, a nice follow up book featuring Diesel, Lizzy and of course Carl the monkey. Sometimes I really need to read a nice light story like these. Now I've just started reading
.

I love to read Agatha Christie, definitely one of my favorite authors. I started reading them way back in 1998, when I was in 6th standard. My school library was full of Agatha Christie books. I have read Sayers and Ngaio Marsh, but for me, I guess among the three queens of crime, Agatha Chrisite would be the best.

I've also been reading the Ngaio Marsh books and have enjoyed them too. I must say, I also have enjoyed the Poirot and Marple TV mysteries as well as the Alleyn mysteries. They are always entertaining...
Just finished
by Lisa Gardner. Many of you have said you liked her so I tried her for the second time. Many said they liked D. D. Warren. She was hardly present in this book about a family always on the run. She does write well and is engrossing, sometimes leaves you "up in the air" I would give this book 3 stars. Good but not great.
Reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Her writing style is a little bit different to me. The story is pretty good though..
Hi Bill, Anirban, and Julie, Last year I read Talking About Detective Fiction by P. D. James and she had some interesting thoughts on Sayers, Christie, and Marsh. You might enjoy it.
Just finished The Redbreast by Jo Nesbø and thoroughly enjoyed it. Harry Hole can certainly holds his own with the best fictional detectives.

Sharon thanks put that on my list check Aloha

Thanks for the recommendation Donna, will surely try and get a copy of the book and read it. :)

I finished
and I have to say this was a very depressing book to me. I did finish it in one day but I couldn't relate to any of the characters and felt the ending was expected yet sad. I know I might be the minority but I think I will stick to the mysteries that take me on vacations not nightmares. The author is talented. I will say that. Back to the 30's with pleasure.

which sounded very interesting and is going well. Lots of elements I enjoy ... setting, characters, solid plotline.

I've finished Enchantment - Charlotte Abel. Now I think I will read This Devil's Dice - Jackson Spence.

It's "Twilight", only the dark secret our hero is keeping is NOT that he's a sparkly vampire, but, instead, he's a twisted soul who likes to beat and have sex with brown haired little girls who remind him of his mommy. Our heroine, Anastasia Steele, so resembles Bella Swan that it smacks of plagiarism. The book even takes place in Washington state. I think I've already posted here that I thought it was YA fare when I downloaded it...and, no, I have no idea how I came up with that...I blame senility. Boy, did I ever get a wake up call with this one! Boy howdy!!!
LOL! I haven't read it, but I don't think you're the first one that thought it was YA. Also, it's my understanding that the Twilight similarly was intentional but they changed up some things once the book was published to keep from getting sued. I don't know all the details, it's just something I read about the series somewhere. I'm still on the fence about reading it.
Just started reading
, six chapters in and I have to admit that I don't thin I've read such garbage in a very long time, if ever. A young virgin woman with ZERO self-esteem just GIDDY at the thought of this Christian Grey controlling, self-absorbed, a**hole, commanding her around like a scolding father. I will read the whole thing, but it always amazes me what the usual NON-reading public finds fascinating. Blegh.

I don't think it is erotic for a man to order a woman around. I've lived it and it isn't fun no matter how good the man is in bed or how handsome he thinks he is lol
Just finished The Eagle Catcher by Margaret Coel. Listened to this one and I did enjoy it. Nice mix of Araphao history and culture and murder mystery. I'm a big fan of Tony Hillerman so I found this interesting.
One annoyance with the reader, who actually did a nice job, why, since most of the story is told from the perspective of male characters with male characters speaking did they pick a female to read the book? Still, I would listen to another is this series.

Finished Kingdom of Strangers: A Novel, I just love this series set in Saudi Arabia. Now reading The Conviction.
I'm about 2/3 through The Concrete Blonde and am thoroughly enjoying it although in its own way it's a time-travel exercise, because there have been so many Bosch's since.... I'm really liking 11/22/63 too, although I got yanked out of the story abruptly today by two anachronisms in the space of about 25 pages! Stevie, boy, where was your editor!?
Finished Wise Blood
by Flannery O'Connor.Started The Queen's Vow: A Novel Of Isabella Of Castile
by C.W. Gortner and Red Glass
by Laura Resau
Decided to have a bit of fun reading Fifty Shades of Garbage - Allie Beck. See if this is any fun lol xThere she sat, the coffee cup half full and likely cold, gripping that damn book again. Joe had come home from work for three days in a row now this week to find Marcia sitting on the couch, legs curled under her, the dim light of the end table lamp casting a glow on her enthralled form, reading a book with a necktie on it.

LOL 50 Shades of Garbage is RIGHT!! Actually, my friend calls it 50 Shades of Sh*t, which is more appropriate for this horrible horrible book lol ... I am also reading it, about 100 pages in

This is not E.L. James books, its a fun outtake of the book I think.
I have just finished Bury your Dead by Louise Penny and it was brilliant, my book of the year so far. It was so good I don't have a clue what to read next.
Finished Fifty Shades of Garbage - Allie Beck. In my opinion, was funny when you saw some parts like Fifty Shades of Grey but, near the end was boring.

actually, it would be more apt for her to be whispering "oh gawd, not again!", "grrrrrr", or "what are you? Rabbits???"
It just made it sound like it was gonna be a funny take on the original book. But it added creepy and Twilight stuff. I just thought OMG, not liking this now.
