I'm still reading "Buried Prey" by John Sanford. It gets better as you read it. I like the detective Lucas. I have lived in the Twin Cities and he really brings that to his books and makes his characters interesting. I will let you know how the end turns out. aloha

She's working into the series very well. Two previous books introduce her, the book where she is one of the main characters involved in the plot and ends with her living with Lucas' family. Second book she's involved as his adopted daughter, with a role somewhat like the one she has in this book. They've ended up (with Buried Prey) as three of my favorites in teh series.
Thank you, I picked up hidden prey where he was married and I noticed the wife and daughter. I am holding off reading it until i finish this one. aloha

She is also given a fairly significant role in "Wicked Prey". The three together build her story quite well and I do wonder if Sandford has plans eventually for a series with her something like he's done with Virgil Flowers.
Thank you for giving me the order of books to read. I didn't know who "Weather" was so I put hidden prey aside. It's new aloha Maya ps any other authors you like new friend?

Finished Footprints on the Beach - Aleksandar Žiljak, was a nice relaxing story of love from 2 different time zones. Now I am going to read Abide with Me - Ian Ayris.
Just started
which is due to the library on Tuesday. The premise is on the crazy side so I'm not sure how I'll like this.
I just finished reading A Clash of KingsA Clash of Kings. It was a very good read. However,it took me awhile to get through the book. Currently I am reading the last book of the Hunger Game trilogy, Mockingjay
OMG, am at the end of Buried Prey and my heart is beating fast. What plotting. I haven't been this excited about a mystery in a long time. (heavy breathing) can't do anything until I finish. Sanford is genius. Gotta have more. Will write when I'm finished......

Finished Buried Prey. Twas good. "All's well that end's well. Off to the library to get more of Sanford. Aloha
I don't usually get books that long (eye problem) but after a slow but good start, it got exciting. Thank you. I'm reading like 3 books at a time. One during the day, and one or two at night in the tub. Thank you aloha
I just read Jo Nesbo's Redbreast. I *really* liked it. I am now furiously reading A Drink Before the War so I can join the book discussion here. I like reading Lehane because I live in Boston. It's fun to know exactly what he is talking about when he describes a place.
Finished five since my last post. Not all of them were on my original list of 35 although two were and one was on my "next up."Finished Colorado Dawn
for a "runaway brides" challenge. Liked it. But if the Cheyenne language in it is actually Cheyenne, that must be one tough language to learn! This one was on my "35" list. Finished What Happens in London
. Not on my 35 but I needed an audio book to listen to and it was around. Liked it, will be checking out more Julia Quinn. Finished two Lee Childs. One on my "35" and one not-- Without Fail
and Nothing to Lose
. Apparently these have put me back in the mood for Reacher because I'm now reading a third. And these have helped me knock two or three more states off my state challenge. Finished Beautiful Days
which is book two of the "Bright Young Things" series. This was my "read ahead into my next-up" book because after I read the first I wanted to see what came next. Then I realizes the third book isn't out yet-- DRAT!Now reading Worth Dying For
(the third Lee Child) and The Ghost and the Dead Deb
which is the second book in this series by the authors of the "coffeehouse" mysteries. Interesting twist happened in the part I read last night- curious to see where it's taken. About to start 11/22/63
.

went to the library yesterday to get the "Prey" series and it was closed for Memorial day ha ha. Happy holiday and mystery reading for all Aloha

I love that Aloha
Just finished Heart of Evil, don't think this is my type so I picked up The Dropto put me in a guarantee mood.
I finished my re-read in audio of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and it was just great (this is my favorite book by AC.)Now I'm going back to Lirael.
You know, you're putting me in the mood for Agatha Christie. I'm going to read one of her books next.

Its a coming of age and the building of a criminal. He is a good kid gone bad. It takes place in the lat '79 and early '80. Really worth a read.
I just finished my third John Rain series
Unfortunately after being so taken with the first two, I was so disappointed in this one so I have just taken out of my BOB another Mitch Rapp yarn
Even tho' Memorial Day wasn't as good assome of his. This will be my 4th in this series.

Julie wrote: "You know, you're putting me in the mood for Agatha Christie. I'm going to read one of her books next."I read all of them when I was in my 20's. You can't go wrong. In the book, "Book lust, the author recommends "Nemesis" and "Wittness for the Prosecution" and I wrote a review for the 'Sleeping Murder" Aloha

Have read all her books. Her heroines are so flawed and fascinating, but the Garnethill trilogy is the best.

I really like those two authors. I don't know why I've only read one book from each.
Marilyn wrote: "looks really good, going to reserve it thanks, what is the first of the trilogy"I think the first is GARNETHILL and the third one is appropriately enough, RESOLUTION, but don't remember the one in between. All fabulous reads because of out of the box stories, strong characters, and unique setting married to lyrical prose. Too many mystery writers, especially American mystery writers, who crank out book upon book, alas, don't write well. They're all craft and no art. As a reader, I want both!
I just finished GORKY PARK and before that 3 Stations and before that HAVANA BAY, all by Martin Cruz Smith, fabulous writer with unusual settings, meaning both where and when his stories take place. HAVANA BAY takes place in Cuba after the break up of the USSR when Russians are PNGs and Cubans are so poor they deep sea fish from inner tubes.
Chris wrote: "Has anyone read Jo Nesbo's Phantom? I was really looking forward to it, having enjoyed both The Snowman and The Leopard. It's next on my list so will let you know what I think. I really enjoyed The Snowman and The Leopard also.
Just finished Dog on it by Spencer Quinn. It was ok...not really my type of mystery. The series is picked for our next Mystery Club. I did manage to complete it but probably won't read any more.
Rebecca Cantrell has a new book coming out in her Hannah Vogel series. This one is set in Poland and Berlin on the eve of Krystallnacht. I love the way Cantrell gets in big ideas and themes into nail-biting, exciting reading. She's a favorite of mine these days. My review of A City of Broken Glass.
Just started The Snowman.I've read two other Nesbo books, not in any particular order but it doesn't seem to cause any issues story-wise.

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is one of my fave Christie books. How did you like it?

Hi Ellen,
I reserved Garnethill at the library. I also like good writing and good plotting. Have you read the Kellerman's Faye and Jonathon. They are some of my fave American mstery writers. But for art and plotting you can't beat Ruth Rendell and Frances Fyfield both Brits. Aloha
