Waterman is a little lighter and more fun than the Corso ones, but since GM Ford is a local author, I like to poke at his books, too....

That sounds EXACTLY like what I'm looking for right now.

Ah, yes. Ford wrote a lovely description of a chase through the Kingdome while it was mid-destruction. Insert a moment of silence here. And I like that he roams out of the greater Seattle area to our humble counties.

I love Robert Crais too. His latest, "Taken", is on it's way to my house right now. Also love Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch. If you are looking for great writing and characters of the same caliber as Elvis Cole and Joe Pike, I think you will love James Lee Burke. His long-running series of Dave Robicheaux novels are top-notch in every respect!

Good choice. Just read the fourth one in that series which was excellent (and continued the story from The Missing).

Have you read the older Ridley Pearsons, the Lou Boldt series? Also based in Seattle. One of them, The Art of Deception, features the Seattle underground. He also plays in the Rock Bottom Remainders band with Amy Tan and Dave Barry and Stephen King and others.

Me too, Sharon. Loved The Crossing Places but the follow up was a little disappointing. But I had to find out what happens next between Ruth and Harry.

Anne, I read that one this past summer, it was really good......

Trying to figure out what to read next. Diary of a Small Fish

I love Robert Crais and Michael Connelly. I've lately been reading Stuart MacBride. I'm only on the second one, but I am really enjoying it. His character is Logan McRae, a detective in Aberdeen, Scotland.
I think someone here tipped me off to him.

I read that a number of years ago. That was kind of fun. A "progressive" mystery. I'm trying to read an Irish one right now - Yeats Is Dead!: A Mystery by 15 Irish Writers.

harlan coben, i discovered connelly, coben and crais around the same time and love them all

I think this is the book I bought three times. I kept coming across it in bookstores and thought, oh that sounds interesting, and little realizing that I already had it on my shelf. I still haven't read it though.

Me too, on a Reacher kick! In the last month I've read Running Blind, Echo Burnin..."</i>
Finished that and now starting [book:Nothing to Lose

Just started my first Lee Child/Jack Reacher (Killing Floor), on a brief respite from working my way through all the Michael Connelly books and am loving it! So many books, so little time..... ))

I am adding all the Lee Child/Reacher books to my TBR pile now.

Gardillas knows he’s on screen and playing the part, tilting his head and stretching his neck like a for real gangsta tough guy. Sitting rigid as a West Point cadet and trying not to look scared. It’s not working. Eckles can see the damp handprints he leaves on the stainless steel table top. He sometimes forgets he is shackled and seems surprised when the chain brings him up short. He is everything Eckles has expected. The detective rattles the knob to get Hector’s attention, waits a few seconds and then enters the room.
Hector has started the cholo routine, bobbing his head and neck like a banty rooster, chin stuck out and a scowl on his face. He probably practices in a mirror. Eckles drops the buff manila folder on the table, hangs his jacket on the back of the chair and sets himself quietly in the old office chair. The wheels need oiling.
“Word is you need some help with this assault beef. I’m where the deal starts. What you got for me?”

I read it last year. The first half is excellent but then, after a major event, the book completely falls apart in the second half, becoming a different story that I found implausible and just not worthy of what came before it. Very disappointing.

Just starting

I'm about to start Hypothermia by Arnaldur Indridason and an pretty excited by the prospect.

Just starting

I am not sure there is anyone better than Crais. And his Pike novels -- whats not to like.

That looks good, Ed. I was just finishing high school in NYC in the late 70s... might have to stick that on TBR.
Walking the Perfect Square
Walking the Perfect Square

I'm not even sure I'm involved enough with the characters after the last book to lose any sleep if I don't find out where that relationship goes next. Just way too 'messy' for me and seemed like a lot of that was added to be able to cut back on the archaelogical 'forensics' I enjoyed in the first book.
Definitely not interested enough to buy it ... will probably check occasionally to see if the library has it.

I just finished The Pure in Heart by Susan Hill and it was terrific even if I could have used a little more resolution of some of the threads. It was the second in the series but I don't think I missed much not reading the first. I'll be looking for more in this series.

I just brought this one home from the library. Let us know what you think when you are finished.

Thank you for that I think I will choose something else to read instead.

That's unfortunate after I liked the first book so much. There were things I wasn't all that fond of with Ruth in the first book but had hopes she would strengthen as a character as the series went on. Sounds as if I don't need to bother with the third.

This ended up being one of my rare 5-star reviews and I now have another series on my rather skimpy 'auto buy' list. I liked the first of this series, Badwater, very well and this one is even better.
