Oh man do they ever! Have you ever heard Reba McIntire talk?

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
They drawl in Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, and Louisiana.

message 103: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Reba drawls big time. She's from OK. I have drawling cousins in OK.

message 104: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Reba and your cousins are probably from the same holler. That holler was settled by southerners.

message 105: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Don't holler at me.

Félix (habitseven) Merle Haggard is proud to be an Okie from Muskogee.

Sally, don't name your child Merle.

Félix (habitseven) Don't let 'em pick guitars or drive them old trucks.
Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such.

message 109: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Walk ten paces, then drawl.

message 110: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Okay! Drop your drawls!

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments ::sings::

Well you know my name is Simon... and I love to do drawlings.

:D

message 112: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) When I moved from Texas I went into drawl withdrawal.

message 113: by Youndyc (new)

Youndyc | 1255 comments It's not exactly a drawl in Louisiana. I'm not sure what I would describe it as, but it's not like Texas, Oklahoma, or Arkansas, which I consider drawling states. Oh, and Georgia (pronounced with a LONG first syllable). And Alabama. And North Florida (AKA South Alabama).

message 114: by Félix (last edited Apr 16, 2010 08:06AM) (new)

Félix (habitseven) Mississippi, too. Oh and Tennessee.

message 115: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Texas drawls the most.

message 116: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I like the way Texans talk while just barely opening their mouths.

message 117: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Sounds like more of a Vah-ghin-ya (Virginia) accent Bun.
Ah Weah a 44-regulah jacket, sir. Sorry, I can't write dialect very well, but I love a Raleigh, Virginia man talking to me. And they take their tea Reeeeal Sweeeet.

message 118: by Mary (last edited Apr 16, 2010 03:36PM) (new)

Mary (madamefifi) I'm from Virginia and there are a couple of different accents here, to my ear. There's the Richmond accent, which I have, apparently (I did not realize I had much of an accent at all until I moved to San Diego, my Daddy bein' from Up North), and then there's that old-school Virginia drawl that Cynthia described, which I call a Hanover (or Hanovuh) accent and which sends shivers down my spine!

And Barb---please do not confuse the Southern Gentleman with the common Redneck.

Er, Cynthis---just re-read your post and I must correct one thing---Raleigh is in North Carolina, not Virginia.

My college boyfriend was from New Orleans and I looooooved his voice. But his mom has/had a true NO accent, so she sounded like she was from Brooklyn and I hated it.

message 120: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I don't have a dialect. :) I could be from Iowa.

message 121: by Kelly (Maybedog) (new)

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) Larry listens to country music. (me too)

My ex is from Virginia. He only had a slight twang. It was cute. Probably prevented me from seeing who he really was. Or at least pretending not to see it...

message 122: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Heidi: I am from Iowa. Some people in Iowa have a drawl, expeshally if youse all live down nearbouts Mizzouree.

Mary: Oops. My southern geography sucks eggs.

message 123: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I was being facetious, Cynthia. I don't think I'll ever be mistaken for an Iowa native when I start talking. :) Not that there's anything wrong with Iowa natives... I dated one for a couple of years... and one of my BFFs is from there.

message 124: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments We used to tell people that Iowans had no accent, we mostly sounded like Walter Cronkite.

We've now definitely had this conversation before.

message 126: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments That I don't really sound like I'm from Iowa?

message 131: by Kelly (Maybedog) (new)

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) I live in the Big Apple until I was 6. My brothers had accents at age 2 so I'm sure I did, too, but it's gone now. Thank God.

message 132: by Knarik (new)

Knarik I am going to jump from helicopter with a parachute, learn how to use a sword and professionally ride a horse. And then I am going to visit Armenia with Jim and Larry, hopefully flying in my own airplane.

message 135: by Knarik (new)

Knarik jump from the helicopter, fence in the air and lend on a horse and ride it??????? I don't think it is a healthy suggestion.

message 136: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Heh. Don't count on me for healthy suggestions, Knarik! You should know better:)

message 137: by Kelly (Maybedog) (new)

It is something not very many people will have done. Just make sure to keep the sword away from the horse upon landing though.

message 139: by Kelly (Maybedog) (new)

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) I KNOW I'm not that agile.

message 141: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Hmmm.... puttin' my thinker on.

I have never:
Swam in a warm-water ocean
Been off of the American continent
Eaten freshly caught fish
Seen a Broadway show on Broadway
Pole danced
Driven (or ridden a horse) through the Rockies in the snow
Sky-dived
Explored the ruins at Mesa Verde
Eaten Bignettes at Cafe Du Monde
(Kevin, did you ever get there?)
Successfully conversed with someone in another language

These are all things I'd like to do someday. :)
