What do you do when you go and re-read a story you've worked on writing for a long time and realize it's completely and totally terrible?

Scream in frustration, rip out my hair, and then go get a cup of coffee. Oh, wait. You meant seriously. Well if I actually did that I would find myself ripping out my hair way too often, so most of the time I'm just left clicking 'delete' and completely rewriting it...Except it sometimes ends up as a springboard for other ideas, so that's good... :]
I try to re-write it to make it better. But if that doesn't work then I just delete it (or rip it to shreds if it's on paper :D
Keep the concept, but totally re-write it. I've changed my first chapter ten billion times! (And I still don't like it).
I'm working on a story now that I plan on putting on goodreads when I've finished it, and I've had to rewrite stuff a million times. Usually I get really frustrated then close the document and stomp off to my bedroom where I listen to my iPod until I've calmed my nerves. :p
I just totally rewrite it. That happend with the book I'm trying to write, I never liked the way I started it to begin with, so I just started to rewrite it.
Some I throw away, but I often just say, "screw this, start over." Then I eat some skittles. Or an apple. Maybe some cheerios. Then I listen to my inspirational music which is probably only inspirational to me and has nothing to do with my stories.

Haha, yeah.
I rewrite it, wait a couple of years, re-rewrite it, wait a couple of years, then re-re-rewrite it...

Lindsay wrote: "Keep the concept, but totally re-write it. I've changed my first chapter ten billion times! Start over. Or destroy it. One of the two.

That's what I'm doing right now. *sigh*
Depends on how much bad writing there is. I do tend to re-write a lot of my scenes because my writing voice is still growing. So.. it depends.

It is a pain. Especially when you really like your story, but there are many parts that need re-doing. That's what has happened to me with Now It's Gone.
Haha. Yeah but re-writing an entire novel can be a pain. But I love this plot (Immortality) so much that I think I'm re-writing it for NaNo. It was my first piece of writing :DHave you had to re-write anything?
Well, right now I'm rewriting this fanfiction I wrote in 7th grade, becasue I still like the plot but not the writing. (it's on fanfiction.net. Even though I should probably have moved on from that a long time ago...)
Huh? Ummm... I pretty much read all the stories that I like from my fav series. Lol.My name: ellenfp
Oooh.... Lol. Umm... I wrote a story for Twilight (shoot me, I know) and I wrote a song fic for the Mortal Instruments and the Gallagher series.
Yeah I stopped for about a year but then the forums became active again and pulled me back in. Plus I get more reviews on there then I do on here, so... yeah.
Haha! I used to be like that with the reviews, but now I've just given up! I like writing my own worlds. Lol.
I say keep it even if you're not fix it, when you're a famous writer your earliest writings will be worth the most, maybe not till your dead...but her your children can reap the rewards!
Grayce wrote: "I never trash crappy stories. I find them to be INSPIRING so that I write something that is actually decent, and not crappy. Lol. Unless they are really bad. Then they are gone. To the recycle bin...."HAHA. me too!!
Ariana wrote: "What do you do when you go and re-read a story you've worked on writing for a long time and realize it's completely and totally terrible?"thats happened
i think :P
i go mad
but i try staying calm
i let ppl read it and tell me wat they think
cause sometimes i might just have gotten bored from it
then if ppl like it it lefts my self-esteem and i continue writing
:)
:)
i just scream, post it and have my friends read it, for there feedback then re-thinknif its terible or not
I shrug my shoulders and add on a ridiculous ending and turn it in. Ridiculous and creative things are what makes my teacher give out A's. (Not that I'm not a good writer, but that's what I would do)
