message 1927: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 06, 2011 05:48AM) (new)

1- Yes, maybe he had help for some but I believe they were his.

2- Only read On the Road by Kerouac

3- I don't, but still don't think it is as good as it once was. Watching films like Almost Famous sets it as an influential rock magazine who help the biggest names in hard and blues rock make it on the scene. Nowadays it seems to focus on a more pop orientated culture, judging from the covers anyhow. Making the cover was once a sign you made it as a rock artist, today that means nothing.

1- Greatest musical artist from the 60s (please don't say the Beatles, I beg you)

2- Best adaptation of a Stephen King novel, and why?

3- Halloween or Friday the 13th, and why?

message 1928: by mark (last edited Jul 06, 2011 06:04AM) (new)

mark monday (majestic-plural) | 530 comments 1. er, the Beatles. but since you don't want me to say that, for me a close second would be nina simone. her career encompasses many decades, but i thought her 60s work was particularly interesting and inspiring. and angry!

2. The Shining. because it stands on its own as an excellent adapatation that is true to both the author's themes (although i know that King is not a fan) and the director's vision.

3. Halloween. again, because of the director. john carpenter made an actual film, and an interesting one. Friday the 13th is just a thrill ride, with no artistry. not saying that makes it bad...but it makes Halloween better, to me.

_____

1. if the apocalypse happens, are you ready for a post-apocalyptic world? i mean REALLY READY...food storage, guns to protect yourself, easy access to shelter, etc.

2. would you rather be in the midst of a terrible earthquake or a terrible hurricane?

3. back hair: to shave or not to shave? i am including as 'back hair' that furry patch above the ass that, um, many men have.

message 1929: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments 1. I'm reasonably ready, I have a survival plan, I know folks with guns, we'd have to band together
2. I guess earthquake, somehow it just seems more manageable to me...unless the ground starts opening up and then I'm not sure
3. er...isn't it just gonna grow in thicker? Waxing seems like a better option and shoulder/upper back hair are far grosser than the ass beards

1. How do you think the homeless should be dealt with optimally?
2. If you could only have one on your desk, would you go with scotch tape or stapler?
3. How do you like your pizza?

message 1930: by mark (new)

mark monday (majestic-plural) | 530 comments *** oops, i actually meant to say "to wax" rather than shave!

message 1931: by [deleted user] (new)

1- Given jobs to help them reintegrate society...or, if they are of the hippy type that live in the woods, minimal material to provide necessary comfort, I've seen this happen in France and thought it was a good idea, people shouldn't be forced to live by society's "norms" if they don't want to.

2- Stapler, it's always fun to projectile staples at people.

3- Just cheese and tomato, I tend to add a fair bit of black pepper too, as for the dough, between fine and puffy is best.

1- Best modern day actor (talking aged 20 to 50)?

2- If you were allowed to kill one person, who would it be and why?

3- Japanese or Chinese culture?

@Mark: I've been gradually getting to know Nina Simone's material, it is rather amazing and I will be listening to more in the future.

message 1932: by Bandit (new)

message 1939: by Oscar (new)

Oscar | 165 comments 1. I want to say yes, but I am going to say no for one main reason. There are jobs, for example, physical work where one has to dress practical and not try to make a fashion statement.
