Kathryn | 375 comments I'm sad to see her go. She brought such enthusiasm, seemed like she really loved being there... some of the others don't seem to care as much and aren't really any better (Bristol! Maybe people are keeping her in because they like Mark?) But, I think she did prove that she can dance (not necessarily THAT well, but, still, decently--and quite remarkably for her age!)

Do you all think it's Jennifer Grey's competition to lose? So far, she's the best dancer, has a great "story" behind her, and is dancing with Derek so I think she'll be hard to beat!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments I think she's likely. Both a good dancer and has a lot of fans.

I agree!!

message 254: by Ann (new)

Ann | 219 comments Yeah, Kathryn, I think you're right (at this point at least). She's already technically better than the competition (it seems) and, like you said, she's got Derek as a teacher and choreographer.

message 255: by Joy (new)

Joy | 314 comments I think when it comes to the dancers who are at the bottom, it's more of a popularity contest than skill.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments Yep. Often is, though.

I loved Florence. I want to be like her when I grow up! I think she is funny and spicy and full of life! I'm very sorry to see her go. I think she did a hell of a job for someone her age.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments Definitely.

message 259: by Ann (new)

Ann | 219 comments I don't want to see Kurt go home, but I'm not sure he'll be able to stay after receiving low scores on both dances... Honestly I thought the judges scoring was all over the place last night (I mean, it always is, but even more so) and just very inconsistent. But, the dancing was fun, and I really enjoyed seeing the top ten dances again!!! :)

message 260: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 375 comments I thought the scoring was way off, too! Kurt didn't deserve such low scores, and Brandy didn't deserve such high scores (I didn't see where her expression was much different than Audrina's and she seemed to get a bit over-powerful like Jennifer did, maybe not quite so out-of-control but still not deserving 9s, IMO). I was proud of Bristol, though, she seemed to finally get things together and while I doubt she'll get much farther at least she did a real dance last night!

What did you think of the TOP TEN DANCES OF ALL TIME? The only ones I would have chosen were Giles' Argentine tango, Helio's quickstep, and Joanna's Paso.

Ditto Kathryn!!!!!

Yeah, I would have chosen those three dances, too. I didn't mind seeing Mel B's paso or or Donny's Argentine Tango or the 50s Paso (not that I enjoyed it that much, but I think Derek did an incredible job given what he was given). I think there was another Apollo dance I would have chosen over the samba (quickstep maybe) and I would have liked to see Julianne's number where it was like I Love Lucy. I was also surprised that Kristi and Marc's jive (I think) wasn't there. But, it was fun seeing people from various seasons and comparing to now. :)

message 262: by Kathy (last edited Oct 26, 2010 10:01AM) (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Wow, last night sure was interesting! I really enjoyed seeing the top 10 dances, and I was pretty sure that Cheryl and Drew were going to be #1 with their free-style dance. I don't know that it was the best dance, but it had such personality that everyone loved it.

I don't know quite what to say about Jennifer and Derek last night. It should have been a great dance for them, but it was all over the place. Derek's choreography is usually flawless, but I think he missed with this one. I guess nobody's perfect though. Maks and Brandy were very focused on doing their best, and it showed. I'm still thinking that it's Brandy's or Jennifer's to lose, but Brandy does seem to have the edge right now.

Oh, did anyone else see Jennifer's husband yawn while he was in the camera off to the side. I thought, "Yikes, that's not good." I'm sure he has a lot going on and was just tired, but it wasn't what I would have wanted to be seen doing on camera at my spouse's event. LOL!

message 263: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 375 comments Oh, I missed the yawn! But, it's not the first time the cameras have caught friends and family looking bored or annoyed or something. Too bad!

I couldn't tell if the Jennifer just had too much energy/passion and over did the dance, or if the choreography was too much for her. It didn't look like it was much harder than other ones he's done in that style, but perhaps it was. In any case, hopefully they will find a happy medium next week!

message 264: by Ann (new)

Ann | 219 comments My guess is that Jennifer got over excited or tried to really infuse the dance with passion and she lost control and her center. That's my guess but hopefully we'll have more insights tonight :)

I, too, think at this point it'll be either Brandy or Jennifer. I thought for a while Kyle or Adrianna (sp?) would have a shot, but I think they are both slowing down in their improvements. Still improving, but at a slower rate than the other two.
I was thinking this morning, the guys are not that great this season (as a whole). I mean, I've enjoyed some of them a lot, but it really seems to be a girls competition this year.

I hope I didn't sound too harsh about Jennifer's husband yawning, Kathryn. I certainly didn't think less of him because of it. I'm sure I've yawned at events where I would have been embarrassed if anyone had noticed, let alone captured it on camera. I guess that's what I was saying, that it was something you don't necessarily want captured on camera. I actually felt bad for him, as he seems so supportive of her.

message 266: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 375 comments Oh, no, that's what I think, too--and what I thought you meant ;-> That it was too bad of the camera people to film that--they really should try to find the people in supportive moments. It's got to be hard to look engaged and excited for two hours, never sure when the camera will be on you!

Good, I'm glad you didn't think I was being mean about it. What's funny is that my husband would probably have been caught sleeping. LOL!

message 268: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I'm starting to get annoyed by the judging on DWTS again (it always happens at some point during the season). I totally disagree with their scoring lately and their attitudes to some of the dancers. Personally, I don't see how Brandy and Audrina are scoring as high as they've been. That marathon was ridiculous - how could they choose Maks and Brandy as the winners when all they did was a bunch of flicks and some lackluster lifts? : / I also agree that Kurt didn't do as bad as they made it seem. I really need to stop getting so worked up about this show!! ; )

Regarding the "Top 10," I personally would've only chosen 2 of the dances that made it onto the list - Apollo and Julianne's samba, as well as Nicole and Derek's paso.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments Did I see Martha Stewart there last night, or was I hallucinating?

message 270: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I saw her, too, Susanna. That was a bit of a surprise!

message 271: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 375 comments Haha! Yes, it was startling! I hope she is not planning to take a spot next year (sorry, any Martha fans out there, but I'm just having a hard time picturing her with... well, they'd probably put her with Corky or Tony, haha!)

Yikes! I don't know if I'm ready for Martha dancing.

Kathryn | 375 comments Well, last night's elimination was, as I guessed it might be, "a shocker"--so, not THAT shocking but still upsetting. No way should Audrina have gone home!!! *humph!* I don't think she was in the running to WIN, but definitely top three or four. It annoys me so much that the judges pretend to be shocked and upset about what happens whey they are the ones giving all sorts of crazy scores. Duh! Oh well... life goes on ;-)

I can't believe that Audrina got sent home before Bristol! I think the judges were way too hard on Audrina for her "lack of character" in the dance, and that probably influenced voters.

message 275: by Jamie (last edited Oct 27, 2010 08:21AM) (new)

Jamie I was a bit surprised that Audrina was voted off, but not really upset about it. I do agree with the judges that she never really got into character. Bristol definitely has this same problem, too. I thought it was odd that she was so stonefaced for nearly her entire dance, until that air guitar thing (which really didn't seem to fit). She looks beautiful when she smiles genuinely, though.

message 276: by Joy (new)

Joy | 314 comments Do you think Bristol is still there due to the popular vote rather than her dancing abilities? I think a lot of people don't even know who Audrina is...

message 277: by Kathryn (last edited Oct 27, 2010 10:26AM) (new)

Kathryn | 375 comments I think that people like to see a nice "underdog" improve, and that is what's happening with Bristol. Others, like Audrina, are good but they came in stronger than the others and haven't shown as much obvious improvement, by comparison, so maybe people don't want to vote for them...?

message 278: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Joy wrote: "Do you think Bristol is still there due to the popular vote rather than her dancing abilities? I think a lot of people don't even know who Audrina is..."

I think Audrina did suffer from lack of name recognition.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments Yeah. My reaction to her name at the start of the season was "Who?"

message 280: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 375 comments Well, I am glad Rick Fox is gone. He really annoyed me, from the beginning, and I don't think he's improved that much nor deserved all the praise the judged heap upon him. (Um, wasn't he supposed to do a quick-step? I hardly saw his feet leave the floor!) I think he, Bristol and Kurt were about on the same level and I'd much rather watch Kurt ;-)

I thought some of the 200th episode stuff was fun, but some was just a bit redundant and annoying. I thought all the guest judges should have just given 10s to make things more fair and even since most were doing so, but oh well. Overall, I liked who they brought back, though, and it was nice seeing them again.

message 281: by Joy (new)

Joy | 314 comments Do you think Bristol has a chance to get into the final 3?

message 282: by Kathryn (last edited Nov 03, 2010 11:29AM) (new)

Kathryn | 375 comments Well, at this point, I would say yes. Although, I hope not! She has shown improvement but not THAT much improvement and I think the stress and being away from her family is getting to her. I'd rather keep someone like Kurt, who is of comparable skill, but seems to really enjoy being there. I think it will be down to Jennifer and Brandi, anyway, and is Jennifer's to lose if her poor body can't keep up :-(

message 283: by Ann (new)

Ann | 219 comments Whew! What a night! I actually was pleasantly surprised (as I think everyone was) at how well Instant Dance went!!! I'm wondering if actually it was a good thing for the dancers like Kurt and Bristol who apparently haven't been counting because maybe it made them learn how to do so. And, like Bruno said, it made them all really focus. I wonder, too, if there was a bit more abandon, like they already had a sense of "well, what have I got to loose" so just went for it and didn't start getting in the way of themselves. :)

I thought the judging was sort of ALL over the place again...

What was everyone's thoughts on the "Max/Carrie Ann smackdown" as I like to call it.
I actually think that, in this one case, the judges were right, I thought Max and Brandy took too long getting into the dance. That said, I do totally understand Max's frustration (I've always been annoyed when the judges harp on one tiny thing with a good dancer when he/she had a way better/more complicated dance overall then someone else). I think it was the proverbial straw, I think 10 years worth of "pro underappreication" came out there and, yeah, he probably shouldn't have said anything, but hey, it's Max. And frankly, someone has to remind the judges that they are often times inconsistent and unreasonable (at least, when it comes to marks. I'm fine with whatever they want to "say" but their scores are never really make much sense...)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments Which dances did y'all enjoy most? For me I think it was Jennifer Grey's quickstep and the Little Richard from the Instant Dance.

message 285: by Ann (new)

Ann | 219 comments Um... I think my favs were Grey's quickstep (that was so cute!) and I actually quite enjoyed Kurt's Instant Dance. Not saying it was the "best" but I did find it entertaining ;-)

message 286: by [deleted user] (new)

I missed it, what happened in the elimination?

message 287: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments I felt bad for Kurt, being eliminated instead of Bristol. I mean, really, it's time to let Bristol go. I agree with you Ann about his Instant Dance, quite entertaining. I was very impressed by the Instant Dance performances.

The Maks/Carrie Ann smackdown was certainly an attention grabber. Again, Ann, I agree with you that Maks did have somewhat a long pause before actually getting into the dance, but that it was a small aspect of an otherwise great dance. Carrie Ann seems to be harping on some of the smaller points of criticism in otherwise really good dancing this season. So, Maks' frustration is understandable, and as you said, Maks is, well, Maks, and he doesn't easily back down. It didn't seem like either he or Carrie were over it last night either, even though Carrie suggested they put it behind them (I question whether she really has either). I just hope she doesn't let it influence her judging Maks and Brandy, who are vying for my vote for winners with Derek and Jennifer. I do have to put in a plug for Kyle and Lacey, too. They are doing some fine dancing lately, although I still hope that it comes down to Jennifer or Brandy.

message 288: by Lee, Mod Mama (new)

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
Wow, I just watched the performances and missed the elimination show. I can't believe Bristol hasn't gone home yet.

I adore Kyle and Lacy and I thought he did a fantastic job on both of his dances. He's come such a long way from the goofy young kid he was at the start. I mean he's still goofy but his dancing is so much more polished. I would like Brandy to win over Jennifer Gray. I just like her better as a person although I do really admire Jennifer's dedication and drive.

I was pretty surprised that Max let it all hang out but I do think he has a point. It was a bit unprofessional though. I would hate to be paired with him. I think Brandy has coped remarkably well with his style of teaching.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments Should be in final three: Jennifer, Brandy, and Kyle.

Probably will be: Jennifer, Brandy, and Bristol.

Bristol is getting a lot of votes, but dance-wise she is out of her depth.

I would be fine with either Jennifer or Brandy winning; they are both good dancers and work hard at it.

message 290: by Joy (new)

Joy | 314 comments I don't think Bristol should be in the final three either but there is no way she can win.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments I certainly hope not! It would make the uproar over Gretchen winning Project Runway for adult diapers look puny in comparison!

message 292: by Joy (new)

Joy | 314 comments I just read a story online that said the reason Bristol is still there is because Sarah Palin got all of her Tea Party friends to vote for her!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments If true, that would suck massively.

message 294: by Ann (new)

Ann | 219 comments I quite enjoyed the show last night! I thought all the dances were really pretty good, especially considering they all had to learn two full dances. I thought Jennifer deserved her perfect scores, and thought Brandy's scores were fine until Kyle ended up with higher scores then her, and Bristol had the same scores for one dance (I thought both Bristol and Kyle did a good job last night, and while those scores might have reflected *their* personal scores, I don't think they deserved to be getting the same scores as Jennifer and Brandy).

So, I voted for Brandy and Jennifer as soon as the show was over. I don't know if this is this really means anything or not, but Brandy's line was much busier than Jennifer's...?

message 295: by Susan (new)

Susan OMG--I'm still in shock!!!

message 296: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments I am still in shock over Brandy getting the boot. I really believe now that Bristol is getting votes from her mother's supporters, which infuriates me, as this competition is about dancing, not her mother's freaking politics. Brandy so deserved to be in the finals and Bristol so deserved not to be. Jennifer looked horrified at the results, rightfully so. I'm hoping that Jennifer and Derek win, but at this point, who knows what craziness will happen. I don't know that I can continue to watch the show another season if Bristol wins.

message 297: by Ann (new)

Ann | 219 comments Well, this makes my vote easier next week. I do think Brandy deserved to be in the finals (her and Jennifer for sure). I wonder though if perhaps it is better for her that she went home yesterday rather than get second. I mean, she wanted to *win* so badly, that maybe going home now, when it's so obvious she didn't deserve to, will be better for her confidence then getting second next week? I mean, I have no idea, but if there's a silver lining, then maybe it's that. Either way, she was the second best dancer in my opinion and it's too bad the results didn't reflect that. (on a good note, Maks behaved himself very well ;->).

Oh, and I loved Derek and Cheryl's '50s routine!!!

message 298: by Joy (new)

Joy | 314 comments I was sorry to see Brandy go last night. She was really upset, I don't remember anyone crying like that. I think she was much better than Bristol.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 529 comments Good god. I was not expecting that!

ETA: I don't usually vote, but count me in to vote against Bristol Palin in the final. That was ridiculous.

message 300: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 375 comments Horrible! The judges really need to stop messing with things. They probably trying to bump Kyle up so Bristol wouldn't make it to the finale but, if so, it totally backfired!!! Poor Brandy--and Maks! This was robbery!!!

I still think it's Jennifer's title to lose, though.
