Dancing with the Stars Chat
I quite enjoyed last night's show, and thought the contestants all around did a good job for having to learn two complete dances!I thought Nicole was back on her game (after seeming a little lackluster the past few weeks) and as far as I'm concerned Derek is one of the best choreographers I've seen!
I though Evan's cha-cha was great! I honestly don't know enough to know how much cha-cha was in the dance, but I thought he did well what he was given. I also enjoyed his first dance (waltz, right?)
I think Erin/Max is a strong third! I thought her first dance was great (yes, that jump/lift thing was amazing!) but thought her rumba was a little awkward.
I really like Nicey! I think she's such a good sport. She did better than I'd expected for last night, but the Paso wasn't that great, though it wasn't dreadful.
I think Chad is hilarious, but I don't agree with the high scores he's been getting. His jive wasn't that quick and his hips just aren't really moving. But, he's a good sport about it all!
It's been very entertaining and I'm SO looking forward to Dance Center!!!
Did you watch last night Lee? Dance Center is a break down of the remaining dancers strengths and weaknesses, like (I guess) Sports Center on ESPN (right?). Anyway, the twist is that it's Kenny Mayne, Jerry Rice and Len Goodman who host it, and it's totally comedy! Just hilarious! It points out the good and bad on the contestants, but it's not mean or demeaning, just good plain fun! ;D IMO, some of the best 10 minutes of TV each season!! (If you didn't get to see it, it's probably online if you're interested)
I was sad to see Niecy leave DWTS last night but she handled it with class and humor. I hope Nicole and Erin are the finalists.
Ann wrote: "Did you watch last night Lee? Dance Center is a break down of the remaining dancers strengths and weaknesses, like (I guess) Sports Center on ESPN (right?). Anyway, the twist is that it's Kenny M..."I think this segment is pretty funny, too. I do wish Jerry would speak up more instead of just looking cute in his wig. LOL!
The results on DWTS were no surprise. I'm pretty sure that Chad should be the next to go.And, yes, Niecy handled it well--better that than Jake, the BACHELOR. I didn't get his reaction.
What did you all think about the collegiate competition? I actually thought the music was too slow and not a lot of hip action so kinda boring. But UC-San Diego was better.
Joy wrote: "I was sad to see Niecy leave DWTS last night but she handled it with class and humor."Ditto. I thought she was a great sport about everything, and loved how she never really complained. I really think she enjoyed the show and stretched herself!
And Kathy, ditto! Why was Jerry so silent!?
Mona,In one respect I thought the college dancers were better than I'd expect - as a group! Very together and clean. On the other hand, if I watched them individually they really weren't that fantastic. Good, but not great.
Yes, I agree that,as a GROUP,they were good. But I think some of the stars on DWTS are better dancers.
Ann, I managed to watch part of the show last night and when I tuned in they must of been in the middle of doing the Dance Center thingy because I had no idea what was going on. It was interesting. I thought when you mentioned Dance Center it was another dance show that was about to start and I got all excited!
Ann, I so agree with you that Derek is one of the best choreographer, if not the best. Even though he's won before, I hope he and Nicole win this one. Joy, I thought Niecy handled it very well, too.
I hesitate to criticize, since I certainly can't get out there and dance, but I was a little disappointed in the college teams. I thought San Diego was better, too, but I wasn't overly impressed with either team. I think the judges had it right with Purdue, that they needed to change up the patterns a bit more. However, I think it's great that these kids enhance their lives with this dancing.
I just read that they are trying to talk Betty White to be on next season! That would be fun, eh? She'd be the oldest dancer at 88...:)
Joy wrote: "I just read that they are trying to talk Betty White to be on next season! That would be fun, eh? She'd be the oldest dancer at 88...:)"Oh, I love Betty White. She would be really entertaining!
Yes, I think she would be more fun than Chloris Leachman. But, I'm willing to bet they'll pair her with Tony.
I am excited about television for tonight, don't get excited about TV much. Dancing With the Stars and then a new episode of Castle. Ah, I'm gonna snuggle down in my be early and watch these lovelies.
Lee wrote: "Ann, I managed to watch part of the show last night and when I tuned in they must of been in the middle of doing the Dance Center thingy because I had no idea what was going on. It was interesting..."Sorry Lee! Gosh, I wish though!
Kathy wrote: "Ann, I so agree with you that Derek is one of the best choreographer, if not the best. Even though he's won before, I hope he and Nicole win this one. Joy, I thought Niecy handled it very well, too."Yeah, I certainly wouldn't mind seeing Nicole and Derek win :)
I really enjoyed last night! I thought the dances overall were really good! I thought Nicole danced so beautifully and effortlessly. I was completely impressed with Evan's performances (his quick step was so out of character for him and fun, and I loved his Paso!). Erin wasn't perfect, but she sure gave it her all. And though I think Chad should go home tonight, I think he gave two solid dances (not that difficult, but clean). Such fun!!!
Great show last night! I think they all brought their best to it. Nicole was just breathtakingly wonderful! And, Ann, I, too was totally impressed with Evan. He put on the dances of his life! Erin and Max are nice to watch together, but I think Nicole and Evan are a notch above Erin. If things go as they should, I agree that it will be Chad who goes. I just loved watching all of them last night.
Poor Chad, but I do think that was the most fair.I really enjoyed the background info on the dancers!!! That was great! I thought what Max said was so great, about "wanting to be successful and have it all, not for having it, but for achieving it" - love that!
And I LOVED Anna and Johnathan's dance!!! So fluid, so airy, and so beautiful!
I enjoyed the background info, too, Ann. I didn't know that Anna and Johnathan were married, and Mark's dad taught Derek. Next week should be an awesome final!
I wonder if any other Hough (sp?) children went to live in London aside from Derek and Julianne... I'm thinking probably not since all the pictures were of the trio.
I was actually a bit disappointed in last night's performances. For PART ONE of a Finale episode, most just didn't seem to have that sparkle. I think maybe making them do four dances is too much--not enough time for the pros to do good choreography and for the stars to perfect the dances. I appreciated all of the efforts in the "Free style" but wasn't that wowed by any of them, though I do think Nicole's was best. I also really liked Evan's first performance with the waltz. I think they should have done more that style (or Paso) in the free dance because that seems to be his strength. I guess the free dance always confuses me because they spend all these weeks working on BALLROOM dance and technique and then it doesn't really highlight their talent, or show respect to the genre, when they just toss it all out the window to do some sort of fun dance with lots of lifts. At least Derek included some ballroom steps in that dance. He is such an amazing choreographer! So, do you think the judges have set up Nicole to win? Or is perhaps Evan so far ahead in viewer votes they had to add some suspense by scoring him low? Or could Erin sneak up and finally give Maks the mirrorball trophy he has coveted so long!? ;->
Ditto, Kathryn. Perhaps I was expecting too much. But I do think making the dancers learn 4 dances was probably too much for the stars and pros alike (choreography-wise).I agree that I liked Derek and Nicole's freestyle was best. I can't really fault the contestants who choose to do a style other than ballroom, since past years have indicated that such a choice is fine, but I, too, prefer the more ballroom oriented freestyles.
I thought Nicole had the best night. And while I really enjoyed both of Evan's performances, Nicole's freestyle was much cleaner. I thought Erin did a great job, but I don't think she deserved to score the same as Nicole, nor Evan (much less higher). But, overall, it's a very strong final three! :)
I don't think any of the freestyle performances were as good as those last season. I also would ascribe that to having to learn 4 dances.
SPOILERS!!!!!!!So, I'm happy with the outcome. I think Evan is a really nice, classy guy (I mean, seriously, what he said at the end was so great and nice!), but, I do think Nicole was the better dancer overall. I would have loved to see how much better Evan would have been had he not had a conflicting schedule, but as it was I was happy with the way the final three fell into place and thought the last two dances were loads of fun!!
And wasn't that so nice of Nicole to find the camera at the very end, amongst the glittery confetti, and thank the viewing audience? Cool.
What a fun season! I can only hope the next one comes close! :)
Kathy, besides Anna & Johnathan, Edyta & Alex are married.Kathryn, I watched the finals & finale today and felt that the right couple won. I wasn't aware that the pros could consult an additional choreographer. Both Maks & Anna did but Derek didn't.
Also, 4 dances is WAY TOO MUCH. It's not fair to the contestants, pros, or the audience. I loved Maks' quote "that's not the bed we rehearsed on."
I think that Evan should have chosen their PASO and Nicole should have chosen their 50's PASO. I think Erin chose well.
I must say the ending to Nicole/Derek's RHUMBA was great even though they got penalized for the lift. How did she balance like that? Derek's choreography was BRILLIANT this season.
Erin & Maks probably would have won in any other season but Erin was just not better than Nicole or Evan.
Ann, I agree about Evan. I can't imagine how he manages training for both DWTS & STARS ON ICE. What a CRAZY schedule!
I really liked Nicole. She came across as so warm, friendly, humble & likable. Sensitive and emotional too. And she's such a goofball.
Next season starts in September!
I was delighted to see Nicole and Derek win. I agree with you, Kathryn that I wasn't really wowed by any of the freestyles, but I thought that Nicole and Derek had the best one of the three. I did think that Erin and Maks had a very interesting one, though. I just think Derek's amazing choreography and Nicole's amazing talent won the day. Mona, thanks for the info that Edyta and Alex are married, too. I think Edyta is so beautiful and talented, has been one of my favorites since the beginning.
I, too, wondered about the consulting with other choreographers, but, maybe they can for freestyle????Yeah, I think Erin probably could have won any other season, too.
I can hardly wait for the next season!!!
Ann, I think Maks consulted Mandy Moore because he was out of his element with contemporary. Anna consulted Bobby(?) because She and Evan were at loggerheads about choreography. Derek was fine on his own.I can't wait for next season either. I wonder who they will have on the cast.
Until then, I will busy myself with SYTYCD. I know they are bringing back dancers from previous seasons but I wish they would have let the public vote on which dancers were coming back.
I could never get into THE BACHELOR(ETTE) but I may try TRUE BEAUTY. It amazes me sometimes how arrogant/conceited these people are. They can be so obnoxious. I remember this girl saying that she doesn't like to hang out with ugly people because then these people look at her and feel bad about themselves.
I think you're right, Mona - about the choreography. I think since Derek pretty much stuck with ballroom (well, and 'cause he's such an awesome choreographer anyway) he was fine, but since Maks and Anna did dances that were different styles, they sought assistance. Which, I don't really mind. It helps make it a little more fair to the contestants I suppose - I mean, since they all have that option. :)I've heard rumors about wanting Betty White and Valerie Bertenelli (sp??) either of which I think would be fun. But, other than that, I haven't heard anything...
Mona, I too am going to be eagerly watching SYTYCD!! And yeah, it would have been nice to vote on who to bring back... that said, I'm pretty happy with many of the selections. :)
Joy, Nicole/Derek won and they deserved it. Evan/Anna came in 2nd and Erin/Max 3rd. I think results were right on.
Thanks Mona - I'm glad Nicole and Derek won as I thought they were the best. Derek has won twice now, right? He's very talented. Wonder if I can catch the finale online somewhere...
Well, there isn't really anyone I'm excited to see but I'm hoping some will prove entertaining and nice. (I don't even know who a few of them are, though!) And I think it's really crazy seeing Bristol Palin on there. Perhaps she just wants to set the record straight, show America who she really is not all this media storm that surrounded her when her mom ran, but with the rumors that she is already causing trouble and is this seasons Kate Gosselin, well, I think she is becoming a spotlight diva. Scary! I think I am more excited to find out who the pros will be--I tend to enjoy watching them and feel more eager to watch them than the (so-called) celebs.
Susanna wrote: "I think the pros are the usual suspects except for Edyta, who seems to have quit."Really!? I am surprised since she has been in it every season. Is Alec back this season? Maybe they want to take some time off together or start a family... Or maybe she's just tired of getting stuck with crummy partners.
Are the pros already announced, then?
The pairings are listed as:Michael Bolton and Chelsie Hightower
Margaret Cho and Louis Van Amstel
Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke
Jennifer Grey and Derek Howe
David Hasselhoff and Kym Johnson
Florence Henderson and Corky Ballas
Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer
Brandy Norwood and Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Brisol Palin and Mark Ballas
Audrina Partridge and Tony Dovolani
The Situation and Karina Smirnoff
Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya
Edyta was quoted as "The producers' vision of what they wanted my career to be did not meet my expectations. They wanted my career to be the show."
I'm more curious than excited about this season's cast. No surprise about Bristol hogging the spotlight. I don't recognize the names of most of the male stars either except for Michael Bolton & David Hasselhoff.I went to ABC.com and they have the cast along with which pro they are partnered with.
Susanna: Edyta is not on again this season and neither is her hubby Alex. I wish Julianne would come back.

Yes, Nicole & Derek were GREAT in both dances. The choreography for both, especially the 50's Paso, was genius.
Nicole/Derek should definitely win. I was rooting for Max because I don't think he's ever won. Derek already won with Brooke, right? I thought Niecy would be gone last week so this week I'm pretty sure she'll be the one eliminated. But, you never know.
Erin/Max Argentine Tango was GREAT too. The 80's rhumba--not so much.
