Pastiches Featuring Sherlock Holmes

I have read several great and several not so great Holmes Pastiches. Fist being the excellent series by Laurie R King, the best of which is :" The Beekeeper's Apprentice"
Also a great book by Mitch Cullum " A Slight Trick of the Mind" was fantastic
Caleb Carr "The Italian Secretary" Any other comments or suggestions?

Of the Laurie R. King Mary Russell series, I've just finished reading A MONSTROUS REGIMENT OF WOMEN (a very good read) and am reading A LETTER OF MARY as we speak --- thoroughly enjoying it. Russell is as full of delightful contradictions as Holmes, and this particular installment promises to be just as entertaining as its predecessors.
As for other Holmes pastiches, I'm fond of Nicholas Meyer's three ventures: THE 7 PERCENT SOLUTION, THE WEST END HORROR, and THE CANARY TRIANER.

I keep picking up Laurie R. King's The Beekeeper's Apprentice to buy, but have not yet. Maybe for our upcoming spring break? I have heard nothing but great things.

Anyone read A Study in Emerald?
Neil Gaiman doing a Holmes/Cthulhu story.
Don't know why I've never gotten round to it, seems to have nearly everything I like in one story.

Ruth, definetly read Beekeeper's Apprentice, it's the great beginning of a fun series! I've read all of the Laurie King, Russell/Holmes series and am looking forward to the new book due out soon "The God of the Hive" I didn't enjoy the last book in the series as much "The Language of Bees" in fact it was the only one I thought was not up to par. I've read 7 Percent Solution, good but not great and I was not impressed with Michael Chabon's "The Final Solution: A Detective Story" it was ponderous and depressing, although my friend disagrees strongly with me on that point! I'm going to check out Nicholas Meyer and the Neil Gaiman books neither of which I"ve read.

Laurie King's books were the ones that actually turned me on to Doyle's Holmes. I LOVE King's books. She had a giveaway here on Goodreads last year of "The Language of Bees" and I was one of two winners. I have to agree that it wasn't as good as any of her others though. I hope "The God of the Hive" is better.

I think the Seven percent solution was more about Freud than about Holmes.

But please keep talking! I'm keeping track of the books you mention. I need another Holmes fix.

Sad geek that I am, yes. Also, currently drinking from my coffee mug I got at the Northumberland Hotel, now the Sherlock Holmes pub, where Sir Henry Baskerville stayed before all the business with the dog...they do a good pub lunch and a fine pint.
I really must get out more...

Okay just so you don't feel bad, I ordered a silhoutte portrait from the museum... it's true sadly and it is hanging in my hallway with my family pictures and people get a kick out of it when they realize who it is...

I also highly recommend Study in Emerald. But then, I'll recommend almost anything Gaiman, so Gaiman writing Holmes is bond to make me unreasonably happy.
