Arminius I saw this documentary on HBO. Their rivalry was responsible for the growth of the basketball audience. They both pushed themselves to be better than the other. As a result each of their respective teams took turns winning championships in the 1980's.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i read this book recently:

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/65...

and i totally agree it took NBA up several notches and paved the way for the superstars today. i was a total bird/celtic fan complete with the dark green converse weapon shoes. there is a great quote in the book by michael jordan where when told by some NBA star now that bird couldn't play today with the likes of labron or kobe he said something like "you just don't get it do you? there has never been another player like him before or after". that is coming from the greatest

I recently finished When the Game Was Ours as well. Bird and Magic were the 2 players I most wanted to be when I played ball.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments This was mostly before my time, so I know the question by reputation more than firsthand experience. I was in my late teens when Magic first announced he had AIDS.

Arminius I was twelve when they played against each other in the NCAA championships. That game was the most watched game in college basketball history. You had two big time superstars squaring off.

I followed basketball then but as I got older I lost interest.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i was 15. that game was not a huge deal to me. i remember it and all but it was bird's NBA career that got me interested

Cambridge (hsquare) | 509 comments Yes, I'll have a chocolate Fribble with chocolate jimmies please! But then again, doesn't everyone who enjoys their ice cream treats--unless they prefer their "fudgie the whale" ice cream cake, frozen goodie fans diverge on this point :)

message 16: by Cambridge (new)

Cambridge (hsquare) | 509 comments New England accents remind me of 3 pack smokers a day, everyone sounds older than they are and really run down, like they just put in an 80 hour work week.

message 17: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I like Captain Eddie in the comic strip Non Sequitur.
