Who put it together? As in, they probably didn't find the old manuscript and add on to it...
I don't know the specifics off the top of my head, but the Jews were VERY particular about keeping the scriptures. I don't think they were actually 'put together' until much much later - the Gutenberg was the first(or one of the earliest, not really sure), but they didn't have a Bible like we do, they had scrolls or copies of sections. And most people probably didn't have access to the whole at all.
We're very fortunate that it's so easy for us.
