What height do you picture me?"

Holy cow! I totally imagined you as a brunette and not short! That's so sad! I mean... not that I care what you look like, but now I need to re get an image of you in my brain and try to get used to it.

Seriously, why is that so popular?

message 253: by [deleted user] (new)

I hate it when I really want something to happen, but my characters would never make that something happen. So I either have to make them go out of character - which I try not to do - or just let it go.

Alyssa (shyluck13) | 54 comments I hate when the character descriptions don't exactly fit yours...like in This Lullaby, I imagined Dexter with blue hair (long story) that was kinda hanging in his face...he actually had curly brown hair that stuck to the sides of his head.

I also hate it when authors make their characters who seem like they know everything, especially if it's your main character...

I'm team Zane. Down with Edward and Jacob."

ME TOO! I LOVE HIM AND CRIED...

message 256: by [deleted user] (new)

I really hate characters that don't learn anything.

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 3393 comments Mod
Don't learn anything? What do you mean by that?

message 258: by [deleted user] (new)

They make the same mistakes over and over, and they don't come out of their experiences with any new knowledge. It's like whatever they went through in the story didn't change them in some way.

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 3393 comments Mod
I kind of like that though. It's like real life. Sometimes people don't change, they don't learn.

message 260: by [deleted user] (new)

I guess I see what you mean. Sometimes it works, but other times it's just annoying.

Grr, I hate that too. So I just refuse to listen to the author and picture it what I want them to look like.

You know what I hate? When the girl/boy on the cover doesn't match the description in the book! If you can't find a model that looks like the person you could at least photoshop the haircolor for crying out loud. I read this book where this girl is supposed to have short colorful hair and on the cover her hair was long and blonde. WITW?

message 263: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha.

message 264: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Harmon (mandyharmon) | 10724 comments WITW?

What is that with?

message 265: by [deleted user] (new)

what in the world

message 266: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Harmon (mandyharmon) | 10724 comments Oooh. ISKT.

I so knew that.

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
I don't like it when characters fall in love with someone after barely knowing them.

message 268: by Isaac (new)

Isaac | 8014 comments *facepalm* I do too. I don't believe in that "love at first sight" thing.

So why do I write like that?

message 269: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
Dunno.
I used to write like that, but now I develop relationships WAY more.

message 270: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Harmon (mandyharmon) | 10724 comments Hahaha! That's a good one Dayna.

My friend Alex calls me a spaz ALL THE TIME and I HATE it. I love him though.

I love and hate those moments.

message 275: by tesni (new)

tesni (akhmatova) | 5031 comments Something that gets on my nerves slightly is when the book's set in a foreign country but all the characters have English-sounding names, as if it'll make it more appealing for the reader and will save them a job working out how to pronounce them.

Another thing that really bugs me is when the author doesn't really describe the character until the very, very last page. I mean, I like imagining the character slightly for myself, but I need some picture of how they look. What use is it at the end?

Owwwwww…

I cut myself on the finger with a bread knife. While I was trying to cut this cube of belgian milk chocolate… :yum:

Like Ari in the Maximum Ride manga. He just has a scar for no reason. I think the illustrator just had it there cuz it was cool.

Stop killing meeeeeeee………………

message 280: by micah (new)

micah (micpegu) I hate it when the character is so happy go lucky and nothing ever happens to the character. It just about their happy life. I LIKE ACTION. Plus isn't a story supposed to have like an event not like the same thing over again. Not saying anything against Diary of Anne Frank. But it's the same thing over and over again. That's the whole point. To show that nothing changed. Life in hiding. But a happy life with nothing in it. BLEH

message 281: by Jules (new)

Jules (fiddlebug13) | 77 comments You put it exactly right Micki. It's dumb when somebody doesn't have anything exciting happen and it's all a nice and happy family...UGH!!! i also will admit I like the idea of love at first sight *sigh* but in stories it's a little annoying...
