Laura | 911 comments True. Although I usually write up female characters with scars.

good point, i just hate it when they put it there for no reason, like there's no backstory.

message 55: by [deleted user] (new)

yeah that pisses me off too

message 56: by [deleted user] (new)

Same, it is annoying.
I hate it when there's really awkward dialogue between characters. It's like, nobody talks like that!

Chat speak
House of Night Books gahhhh
Like when people keep describing things over and over and over again, the same way.

message 58: by [deleted user] (new)

I hate that too!

message 59: by Laura (new)

Laura | 911 comments I don't like it when I'm reading a very modern story and the characters speak as if they lived in the 18th century.

Hannah | 19 comments I hate when female characters are weak and girly. (Ahem, Bella Swan in Twilight.) and are all lovesick, unable to do anything themselves except be the pretty, petty little damsels in distress.

Krys (krisslee) | 5015 comments Mod
I hate that. It makes me feel sick-- if they can't do anything for themselves they deserve to die without the help of any protector. One of my bigest pet-peeves is weak female characters.

message 64: by Laura (new)

Laura | 911 comments -.- I have to agree on that.

message 66: by Laura (new)

Laura | 911 comments what about weak male characters??

message 68: by Laura (new)

Laura | 911 comments then just weak characters in general.

what about weak babies??

Jordan, The Picture Magician (aka Probie) (thepicturemagicianakaprobie) | 2218 comments weak babies???????

message 70: by SQUEAK! (Lisa) (new)

SQUEAK! (Lisa) (fictionheart) I hate it when character names are too hard to pronounce, so hard that even the native speakers of the language have trouble with it.

Maria [the clockwork creeps on useless lives] (mariachhile) | 8772 comments Mod
I hate when characters speak to somebody for a veeeeerrrry long time, for like a paragraph or two, because in real life, when friends are talking, unless they are really well mannered, they WILL interrupt at some point

♫♥Selena♥♫ (wertyiu102) | 338 comments I hate it when ... Well, the author is sexist. Like, how you guys mentioned. I hate those 'girly girls' who can't 'take care of themselves' and live for love. And that's it.

♫♥Selena♥♫ (wertyiu102) | 338 comments Weak guys are better than weak girls. Just not to a high extent of weak-ness.

message 74: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay This topic is useful. I try to "play to my reader" as an author. Now I know how to make my annoying characters even more irritating!

I know. That type of stuff ticks me off >.> I want to seriously strangle the author.

Ikr.Most girls aren't like that, most of the girls I know are tougher than almost all the boys in my school. Now that's what I call girl power.

message 77: by [deleted user] (new)

not in my school its typical girly girls and bad boys and good boys

I dunno, some of the guys at my school are wimps, others are freaking scary. I'm a wimp, lol. Physically at least. ;)

Jordan, The Picture Magician (aka Probie) (thepicturemagicianakaprobie) | 2218 comments yes, Kriss. Why?

message 82: by [deleted user] (new)

well not at my school there are very few who are wimps but they are funny and nice

Maria [the clockwork creeps on useless lives] (mariachhile) | 8772 comments Mod
I hate it when they make like, for example 13 year olds, act like they're either 8, or when they act like they're like 19. It DRIVES ME CRAZY!

♫♥Selena♥♫ (wertyiu102) | 338 comments I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR SCHOOL VAMPIRE BOY!!!! gosh...

♫♥Selena♥♫ (wertyiu102) | 338 comments Well, I always thought Juliet was strong...er.

I am strong...ish.

♫♥Selena♥♫ (wertyiu102) | 338 comments I know!! I mean, everyone has imperfections.

Oh, boy. Well with words and my minds I can make you weep and I could throw a good punch, but really I'm barely 5"1' and my muscles aren't really anything to brag about...

message 88: by Clarence :P (new)

Clarence :P I don't like it when the guys are all buff and full of themselves. It's also awful when they try to be funny, but it comes off sounding stupid.

message 89: by Cutter100 (new)

Cutter100 | 52 comments I can't stand it when a character knows they have to do something and they wait forever to do it, sometimes until it's too late.

♫♥Selena♥♫ (wertyiu102) | 338 comments GHaha, yeah. I hate when they take contro, like, they are always acting like the boss. xP

message 91: by [deleted user] (new)

I hate it when all the characters have perfect body types or only the losers have physical imperfections. I mean, criminy. It's so unrealistic.

message 92: by Clarence :P (new)

Clarence :P Yeah...
I also hate it when the character in the book says they're all ugly and whatnot but on the cover they're like beautiful. Like in Fairest. Ugh. Made me mad.

Same with Uglies, but at least that had the excuse of "in a world of extreme beauty, anyone normal is ugly". I guess it doesn't bother me that much thenn...

criminy? Really? that's the best you could come up with?

message 95: by [deleted user] (new)

Exactly.

I'm team Zane. Down with Edward and Jacob.

Does it contain a backstory about how he got the scar?

message 99: by Jayda (new)

Jayda | 2761 comments This isn't necessarily the character's fault, but I can't stand when in the first chapter or two of a book we find out EVERYTHING about a character's life! We don't need to know! -coughMessageInABottlecough-
