Afternoon.

I want to use Sounds of Murder for Summer 2025 20.6, but I've noticed that it only has "published" dates, not a "first published" one. The two editions with a date were both published in April 2022 - of which the paperback is 15th April and the kindle is 26th April. The worldcat entry I found also says 2022: https://search.worldcat.org/title/150...

Can they be adjusted to be "first published"?

Hello!

I was looking at a book I'm reading with Audible to see the paperback page count, and while there is a PPB edition it says it has zero pages. I found that edition on Amazon and there's a review that says the edition is 355 pages (which still seems low to me considering the hardcover is 448 but that's all I can find), which is at least more accurate than the zero pages. Would anyone be able to look into this/update it?

I don't know if this is something a librarian can help with:

Black Wolves top paperback edition has 832 pages. And the second paperback listed Black Wolves has 782 pages.

The top Kindle edition Black Wolves is listed as 624 pages, and the Kindle edition that I read Black Wolves is listed as 646 pages.

But the only MMP editions are Black Wolves (0 pages) and The Black Wolves (8 pages), so I can't claim a Big Book ticket. (When I looked at this in May The Black Wolves was listed at 480 pages which still wouldn't qualify for a BB ticket.)

A moderator has said we need to go with the MMP page count "however we can change this if we can find someone who can research and update the page number. I feel it could be the wrong page count."

Obviously zero pages for the top MMP edition is wrong, but I don't know how to research this. Any suggestions?

I don't have much good news for you, Julia. I have tried to clean up as much as I can find info for this book, but "the usual suspects", including the author's own blog, vary wildly. I used WorldCat for those ISBNs I could find, then Amazon, and even looked at some of the other book sellers. Some of the ebooks say 250, which doesn't match the other numbers, at all.

Using the current rules: mmpb, pb, hb and think you could post your task, mention you read the Kindle version and state that there are no viable pages for a mass market version. Show the first pb version and use that pagination.

You can use the General questions area if you really want to ask the moderators ahead of schedule, but the above is what I'd do and see what happens. It's obviously a pretty long book.

Hi Kathy, thank you for looking into this.
I had previously posted in the Moderator Announcement - Rule Changes thread (post 24) and was told:
"I'm not sure if I have seen anything like your big book situation. I wonder if there was an entry error. I have sometimes replaced a 4 with 7 and vice versa in a 10-key situation. I feel like the MMPB should also be in the 700 range. Let us look at that more." (post 25)

Then when I actually read the book I included this in my post when claiming the task
"I would like to claim a Big Book ticket (possibly 2) for Black Wolves but I'm not sure how this would work. Please see my question and KmarieD's answer in posts 24 and 25 of the Rule Changes thread under Moderator Announcements.
I read the Kindle edition which has 646 pages." (post 869)
and received this answer in the Questions/Problems in Completed Tasks thread:
"For BB we still go off the top rated mmpb. I had to follow this however we can change this if we can find someone who can research and update the page number. I feel it could be the wrong page count."

That's when I came to the Librarian thread.

Since you couldn't find a page count for the MMP I guess I'm out of luck.

I guess I don't understand this latest post of yours where you say you are "out of luck". According to the rules (and what the mods told you, I think), if there are no valid pages listed for the mmpb, you take the top pb entry. This is now 821. That gives you two big book tickets, I believe, which is more than what the Kindle pagination would give you.

So it looks like you actually come out ahead, to me.
