Is is definity the people that make this group most of what it is.

You know what I like about this group (second to the friendly people) is that we have no formal book discussions. Everyone just puts books up and we talk about them in whatever direction we like or don't). Is there a way to convey the informality of the group with a tag?

Gundula, That's a good idea and I'll leave it up to Lee, but I'm afraid we'd run out of room. We like so, so, so many different genres, plus we might leave out one a potential member would be interested in, one we haven't thought of yet. I'm going to add "informal" for now. Wish we could do opposites: opposite of bookclub. ;-)

I added tags to the group I co-mod, but search for groups doesn't find us. Is there a step I am missing. Frustrating when something seems straightforward and I manage to make it difficult! Help, please! :)
Thanks, Lisa. I rejoined the Moderator's group (or I requested to be allowed to).

Lori, does all the requests. You'll be accepted. All mods and co-mods are accepted.
Yes, thanks. Remember how I said I reduced a few of my groups that I wasn't really active in. Well, I rejoined them in the past two days. I just get little fits of tidying.....

Well, it's always good to reevaluate to see whether or not to keep or not keep them.
Brenda, that's a very good question! I don't know the answer but I think you can use anything as long as it's not infringing upon copyrighted material. I'm just guessing though. Maybe someone else will have a better idea.

Hi Maude,
Wow, you got wiped out! At the very bottom of the page, just to the right, there is a "help" button. You will be able to send a message to the Goodreads team and just maybe (I hope) they will be able to restore your data. If they do site-wide data backups, they might be able to retrieve your books and reviews and things. It is certainly worth a try. They usually respond fairly quickly, too.

Oh no Maude! That's terrible! Yes, definitely contact the Goodreads help team, tell them what happened and they may be able to restore your profile.
I sure hope they can bring her data back. I imagine they have to back up their data, in case a server dies. How awful!

Contact them ASAP!!! They'll be working tomorrow, but usually not Saturday and Sunday. They do keep backups for at least a few days but I don't know how many. It takes a lot of work for them to restore a member profile but I've seen them do it. I saw them even do it once for someone who had been off (deliberately, then changed their minds) for longer than a few days.
You can use the help link and then message them.
I would also email them from the email address you use for Goodreads. Email them at support at goodreads dot com.
Best wishes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maude, Have you exported your books to a csv file on a regular basis? That would only get books & reviews back though, not everything else. Ugh.
I hope that they can do it.
If it were me I'd ask for help in 3 places:
email to support at goodreads dot com
help link direct message from web site
post in the Goodreads Feedback group
Tell them everything you can about what happened and about you and your profile/email address/etc.
Very best wishes!
Lisa, could you elaborate on how to backup up the book data to a csv file or point me to the instructions? After what happened to Maude, I want to do this!
I don't even know how to delete my Goodreads account, which is a good thing for now. I don't think I'll poke around to see how it's done. I have seen deleted members on the discussion boards, but those were people who wanted to leave, I assume.

Maude,
Are you the Maude from Boise? If you are, then your profile is still there. There are just two of you now.

I export my books nearly every day and keep the last month or so worth of files and selected older ones, the 1st of the month for a year or so. Don't ask me why I do the latter. You probably need to keep only the few latest ones, but sometimes there are glitches you might not know about that have corrupted your books, so I keep quite a few of the latest files.

Are you: http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/43...
the same person as

If so, your account is here. What happens when you try to access the original account?
Thanks, Lisa! I will do that. I would hate to lose my lists and reviews. There are plenty of features on GR I still don't know about.
Lisa wrote: "Jeannette, to back up your bookshelves: books & reviews, go to: my books, scroll down to import/export, from that page click on export to a csv file, and it will download the file with all fields o..."
That was easy. Thanks, again, Lisa! :)

I can see that after looking at your bookshelves! :)

;-) Exactly! And, the number of reviews I have too. But I'd hate to lose that to-read shelf worth of books, though I have no doubt Goodreads members would help me assemble another one quickly enough.
So true. I am always adding a "new" book or two to the list that is already there, but I would still hate to lose the list. The reviews would be a big loss, too. The file saved and opened in Numbers on my iMac with no problems.

I have a "doc" file (it pages on the iMac) with little notes and things from posts I wanted to keep. It helped in the beginning when I was getting to know people, too.
Do you keep a book blog, too? I keep playing around with the idea of blogging. They are fun to read.

I don't keep a blog, and unfortunately I don't have the time I'd like to read friends' and others' great blogs anywhere near as often as I'd like.
Aside from emails and research and Goodreads (reviews, voting on reviews, groups, messages, etc.) I don't have time to do much else online. Goodreads is mostly it for me.
I love goodreads, that's for sure. But, I'm not in any book discussion groups anymore. I am having much more fun just grabbing a book someone mentions or reviews and reading it.

I do have a real world book club but it's fairly easy to keep up with because we read just 8 books a year, but I am considering giving up most of my group reads here. I also prefer to read what appeals to me in the moment.
I started to feel like I was being driven to read books I didn't feel like reading. I do like getting suggestions from the groups. My local book group didn't quite get off the ground.

Is anyone else getting a MS Explorer error message constantly when they go to Goodreads, or when you browse from screen to screen once your're there - says it is a message from the webpage STACK OVERFLOW. I haven't changed any settings or anything different that I can think of....just started yesterday.
I'm on Firefox, so I haven't gotten those errors. But, last night the homepage refused to load. I could sneak around it by looking at my friends list, but still. They must be having some problems with a new version of the software.

The Feedback group is the best place to report these types of bugs. I assume Goodreads staff will try to fix this one when they return tomorrow from their weekend off.
