I thought it would be neat, if we had a section we could discuss things outside our obvious obsession.

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) Good idea! Can I share this story with you all?

I am typing this on my new laptop, purchased today as a result of using a $10 bill in a penny-slot machine at our local casino last night. Hubby and I with another couple went to a show last nite then stayed for drinks and gambling afterwards. I sat down in front of a machine, put in my $$ and just started pushing the spin button. I have absolutely no idea how to play, I just knew the Mega Bonus windows kept lighting up. My husband looked over my shoulder at the screen and said "You're done". I thought he was trying to tell me I was done GAMBLING, so I got rather indignant with him (lol). He then told me I had won the jackpot. Of course I didn't believe that either! The bells started going off, then an attendant appeared to ask how I'd like my winnings! I was so excited I did a "happy dance" all over the place. First time I've ever won $$$.

Now I can sit on the couch and chat with you all!

Wow, That is awesome. Congrats! I must admit however, my skin tone just turned a rather unflattering shade of green(envy, not ill... just to clarify..) I went to the casino, for the first time the other night too. I too put $10.00 in the penny machine, and guess what? I won squat!!! lol.

I bought an ASUS K501 Series 16" - it's black and shiny and has an HD screen. That's about as technical as I get! LOL. It has 4GB of memory and a 500GB hard drive and a built in webcam. I was tempted by those little 10" notebooks but figured if I got this one the kids can use it as well and hubby can too (if he asks nicely). So far all the kids have done is watch the "annoying orange" on youtube but I am absolutely loving this! I'm sitting in my living room chair right now - ahh the luxury! We picked up the laptop at Staples the day after the casino. I initially was going to order a Dell but had a bad case of "money burning a hole in my pocket"itus.

Do you have a laptop? I'm wondering, of those of you who do, how much of an effect does it have on the amount of time you spend online/blogging/chatting?

Freedom is right -- no one else has the password to log in to it! (hahahaha).

I was so excited when I posted my "big win" I hope I didn't sound like a braggart - I was so very lucky that night. I believe my gamblin' days are over now, most of the time I am just too cheap!

Yes, I have a older Toshiba (I had an HP before - that was a piece of crap and heeeaaaaveeeee). The current one I have is about 3 years old (which is ancient in PC terms), but I still love and it works fabulously. My laptop has given me freedom work on all 3 levels of our townhouse (away from chaos or noise) and even out top on our patio. I love no wires!!!

It hasn't really changed my online time as when I had my desktop years ago. I am sure now with the freedom you are probably on it a bit more than normal. As the WOW factor weans abit, you get back into normal pace again.

Awesome Tammy.... I do have a laptop. I have a Mac Air (I carry it to work with me to sometimes, so nice since it is light and thin). My husband is a computer guy, both for work and play. He has several computers and laptops but doesn't share well, LOL. We started buying Mac laptops and other products now that they are PCs and I can put windows on it.

I don't think using a laptop hinders my usage, if anything I use it more because it is so portable :)

message 10: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) Alycia, how do you like the Mac? I understand they are very different from PCs in the way they operate but I don't understand how. They LOOK cool though.

My husband is a computer type as well and is "in charge" of our big home computer. One of the reasons I wanted a laptop is that I had put limewire (eek!) on our main computer and managed to fill it up with adware - spouse less than thrilled. Now that I have my own computer I can fill it up with a much junk as I want - I'm thinking of trying torrents, LOL.

Do any of you use file sharing programs like torrents, limewire, etc.?

I love Mac! I started out with a Macbook Pro. My husband bought one for home after he was given one for work, and loved it. He changed jobs, so he took the Pro and bought me an Air. He has 3 different operating systems on it, he can use whatever he wants, linux, Mac OSX, Windows. Mac OSX is easy to use but I have windows on mine. I didn't want to learn anything else. I can do everything a pc does and since I have windows on it, I don't do anything different or learn anything different. I would not switch brands after becoming used to apple products :)

I don't use limewire, etc. I used to, but not any more.

Heather (Let's-Go-Pens-We're-Gonna-Take-This-One) I have a laptop as well and hated it as soon as I bought my new home computer. It was an acer, which may have been the problem, and I found it way tooooo slow for my patience.

I ended up giving the laptop to my teen daughter, which eliminated the problem of her wanting to download everything under the sun (which isn't allowed on my beautiful, fantastic, home computer).

I do all my gr and fb and email on my home computer, which is conveniently angled so I can see the tv at the same time. Kill two birds with one stone, right?

message 13: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) Hi Heather, was the problem that the new desktop was WAY faster than the laptop? Now you need to put a new laptop on your Xmas list! The novelty of mine hasn't worn off yet - we all use it, sitting on the couch. I do all my GR, emailing, shopping, etc. while I'm in the living room. Our computer room is way far away from everyone so that's one reason I wanted the laptop.

I've told my spouse that GR and surfing is like flipping through a magazine - I can quite easily do that and watch tv too!

Heather (Let's-Go-Pens-We're-Gonna-Take-This-One) Yes, the problem was definitely that my desktop was way faster.

Good call on adding it to my Christmas list. I wonder who has my name this year? Ha Ha

Heather (Let's-Go-Pens-We're-Gonna-Take-This-One) Alright, aside from books, I'm a serious movie junkie.

Has anyone else watched 'The Last Song'? Did you like it? I loved it. I haven't cried so hard during a movie in a long time.

I saw 'Dear John' when it came out too and I didn't think it was very good at all. Maybe because I read the book first.

I'm glad ol' Mr. Sparks is finally back on track.
