From their blog I think they said things the right way. Optimistic, yet realistic. I liked that she brought up the Dresden show/books. I really like the books, but the show, not so much.

I especially find this funny as I've decided to do a re-read of the series. I've lost track of how many times I've read them.

Oh I've never been a re-reader for one I usually can remember everything important from y favorite series and don't care to remember my non favs ( as awful as that might sound). I have re-read my childhood books though i guess for nostalgia purposes less for the story and more about trying to feel the same way I felt when I first read them.

I find I re-read with audio books. It gives me a different perspective and allows me to read when I'm doing other things. I usually always have an audio book going. When I have trouble finding "new" audio books I will go back and re-read favorites.

I can remember too for the most part, but there is something about re-reading that is nice. I find you can see the foreshadowing more when you know whats coming. Some authors (JR Ward and Kim Harrison) are really good at putting in a little bit that won't pay off for a few books.

Yeah! I love picking up on new things (especially the Hollow books). Sometimes you can love a new character even more.

Or Chance's Cassandra Palmer books. I've reread them so many times, but I always pick up on new things.

I think re-reading is good for you but I'm pretty impatient hahahaha I'm trying to get to the end of a series asap. one reason why I usually give up on a series if they add more books after the arc has ended . I'm strange like that.

Kate still doesnt understand what the warerat was trying to explain to her about not risking the entire pack for the live of one. it annoyed me that Curran and co. came to break her out and she sees one person she rexognizes and has the nerve to tell them she's nor moving one inch unless they all stop to free that person. and then if everyone gets killed because she refuses to move then how will she feel? i usually love Kate but specific personality traits are grinding my gears this time around. lol

I get that. But that's always been Kate. She doesn't believe in leaving anyone behind or picking one over the other.

She even admits it's one of her flaws/weaknesses.

I finally finished it. If she was going to stay at the keep and in a position of power its something she would have to learn. So i guess the ending in somewhat of a blessing in disguise.

Hello Strangers! How have you all been?

I have finally finished Magic Binds. I am so ready for this series to be done. I was bored from beginning to end and thought that Kate was completely out of character. I was just waiting for a scene of her twirling her hair and popping gum before I was going to start looking for pod-people. (view spoiler)[I am glad that Kate knows that Julie knows (hide spoiler)]

Julie didn't bother as much as she normally does. But, it really looks like that Derek thing is going to happen and they said in this book that he's mid20s and she's 15 and that squicked me out. So, hopefully the series can end (there are only 10, right?! Please. let me be free) with Julie and Derek together if you close your eyes and leap and then they can have a spin off that I will ignore and pretend never happened. OH WAIT (view spoiler)[ Julie hanging out with ROLAND even though she knows who and what he is because she's arrogant enough to believe that she can outwit a god is stupid. And Julie learning to become Kate/Rolands weapon because-----reasons-----is STUPID (hide spoiler)] Over.It.

Well Kate was out of character because of the whole (view spoiler)[ claiming thing. I did find that aspect annoying because oddly enough that plot line is used a lot in UF. The power is so corrupting it alters them! (hide spoiler)]

Julie learns though. She gets a pretty big (view spoiler)[ slap in the face. Kind of seeing that she is being stupid. Over confidence and thinking you're all that is part of growing up. Realizing you're not invincible. (hide spoiler)] I've never been into the whole Julie and Derek thing. I think they make better sibling. Besides that it's such an obvious choice that I find it annoying.

I still really like the series and stories, so I'm okay it going on.

And--selfishly--I worry that if the series continues too much longer they are going to try and move that awful Julie character into more of a focus and worse still pair her up with Derek. I love Derek. What did he do to deserve such an awful brat?

lol I hate when series are dragged out. I get really annoyed because of several reasons one being I feel a bit deceived. If a new book is scheduled to come out a year after the most recent book most likely it's already written or was already planned at the least and yet authors sometimes lead us to believe its the last book IMO.

That would be publishers. Sometimes they want to keep the suspense going, or pull out for the release depending on sales.

A lot of times authors are contracted to say nothing until the publisher gives them the green light.

I can understand saying nothing but they tend to say "oh the final book in blah blah series is being released" and then us bookies have a fit and rush out to get it like we're preparing for a storm and then a week later "oh yeaaah there is one more book sorry not sorryy"

The other thing that bugs me is when the series continues on for too long and the characters change into annoying characters I can't stand exhibit A: Mortal Instruments.

about 20 minutes away from being done with Magic Shifts. This one was a tear jerker but it was certainly needed for Kates character. I can't believe I am almost caught up. I feared that once the chase was over Curran and Kate would become boring and mushy gushy but they haven't gotten on my nerves yet. I did get spoiled recently on Andrew's blog for the next book. Still wondering when the series is going to end, though. I need closure I am not the type of reader who can read a series indefinitely. I've only read the first book in the Mercy Thompson series and I am hesitant to continue because new books are steadily coming out.

I think they became better, and more interesting, when the chase was over as they became more of a couple. It's refreshing as most UF series it's all about the chase.

Yes, most couples in UF/PR get so boring and annoying to me but I like them. Hopefully, there aren't 40 books though because I'll get tired of any character at that point.

I haven't had a chance to do so. I'm working crazy hours in South Korea and also getting my masters degree so If I can finish one book a month I'm doing great haha. I want to wait until I have time to just listen to the whole thing.

It was a Julie lite book. I thought the book did good with ending things. Kate and Curran are happy, yet things are open enough for them to continue writing in the world with other characters.

That makes me more excited to read it, truth be told. But I have no idea how long it'll be before I actually get it. My library doesnt own it and since its the last book in the series they wont purchase it since that means purchasing the rest of the series. So they're ILL'ing which it wont come to me before it goes to the people on THAT libraries waiting list. So my best chance is getting an e-copy but the waiting list on both of the library servers that I use is over 100 people long! I may look and see how much it costs on kindle/nook. If its cheap enough (like under 5 cheap enough I dont want to give this series that I was losing interest in real money) I may just buy it.

So, I finally read it. And I have to say----I didn't like it as much as I was hoping to. :/

1. I was disappointed that we got 0 of Roland being neighbors with Kate and Curran. As much as Roland is a power-mad god who only wants to use his daughter as a weapon--he does seem to like her. I was looking forward to seeing a scene or two of the odd couple neighbors. I don't know why I was expecting it. This isnt a very funny series.
2. I thought there was WAAAAAY too much Conlan to the detriment of all the other characters. It felt like 60% of the book was Kate marvelling over how wonderful and awesometastic and scary her son was. but I also think this wouldn't have gotten on my nerves so badly if we hadnt known this was the end of the series. Like--why are you shoving this character down our throat when we aren't going to get to know him?
3. I was disappointed in the whole dragon storyline, and the forgiving of Hugh. and the resolution of the Roland plot. Exactly how many of the books have we spent working up to this confrontation between Kate and her father? Only for it to be mostly side-lined in the last book so that they could focus on the dragon plot. I think the whole Roland resolution was only a page or two long! After like 9 books building up to it!
4. this was the first book that I really felt like I had missed a lot by not reading the other books in the world. I kept wondering if I had skipped a book or if I had forgotten a ton of stuff until I realized no, thats not it. I'm assuming that a ton of stuff happened in other books in the world (like everyone and their mother being aware of Hugh and his castle in Ky and pretty wife with a power unknown to Kate) and some of the beasts and past battles I didn't remember--but especially conversations between characters that I know have their own spin-offs.
5. Curran. I felt like Curran was BARELY in the book! And when he was there he was sexin' Kate and that was basically it! He became a god-King but other than Kates freak out that whole thing was treated like, no big deal! 'nother day in the neighborhood!
6. Now, this is just a pet peeve of mine. I think fight scenes in movies and tv shows are AWESOME. I find them ridiculously boring in books. So, this ties back in with my complaint about the dragon--but there it was.
7. Not near enough Derrek. Here's the thing. I've made no bones about the fact that I love Derrek. I think he's a great character. His character trajectory was so interesting! His backstory was so detailed! He's one of the characters that has been in every book and who's role in the series steadily grew only for him to disappear midway through the book only to pop up again towards the end to guard Julie (and I'm expected to beliee that with Derek watching her Julie managed to get away from him and come thisclose to stabbing Roland and dying herself?
8. It felt like since this was the last book in the parent series that they were trying to bring in a lot of old familiar characters (like when a long running tvshow ends and they bring back old characters in the series finale for nostalgia or whatever) but this was a relatively short book and there wasnt time to give plotlines to everyone so it felt rushed. I was going to say like plots got dropped but its like plots never really got started. Like the Dali/Jim pregnancy/is Jim betraying Kate and Curran storyline. WE NEVER HEAR FROM JIM! Never! We hear that Dali/Jim are arguing on the phone. We never learn what Jim thinks about the possibility of him starting a pack civil war. We never learn whether or not Jim really was plotting to kill Conlan or what he thought about the fact that Kate and Curran thought that he WAS planning on killing him.
All in all for a series finale it felt like a lot of filler. Like we were supposed to be just interested enough in the bits and pieces of other stories happening that we would rush off and read the other books in the world. NOT. HAPPENING. Although, I do want to re-read the first one or two! Kate realizing that she's being courted by the Beast Lord is pretty great.

I LOVE how little Julie there was in the book. But even what little there was managed to annoy me. I managed to brush it off under the assumption that everything that confused me was probably answered I just didnt know the answers because I skip her scenes. Like, the last Julie scene that I remember reading was Derek being sent to fetch her and return her to the keep after she runs away for the dozenth time. And theres another scene, possibily from the same book, where she whines a lot and paints her room emo-black. Or emo-red. She screams a lot about being the pack princess since she's Kate's adopted daughter and Kate is married to the (then) Beast Lord. In this book she's rushing into battle with twin blades and is the knower of all things. Just call her google. Maybe she adopted this role in one of the many Julie-centric scenes I skipped.
I did NOT like the epilogue that seems to be setting up a Julie/Erra spinoff. Neither character interests me enough to want to read about them exclusively and it seems to be that in the entire book Derek is only mentioned without Julie being there in someway once (and I think this is something that has been going on in the last few books). So, I'm like 99% sure that a spinoff with any amount of Julie in the wild would have a Derek following her. At first annoyed that she's doing something that makes him worried and then ending with them rolling aorund in bed. It is Ilona Andrews after all. (hide spoiler)]

2020 was a big re-read year for me. Needed the comfort of my favorite series to deal with all the crap. I pretty much read all of IA series, am doing the last one now. lol
