As for the Julie short story since you don't like her you could skip it, but it might make you like her a bit if you read it.

You're a good sort, Darcy. I'm a little twitchy. It drives me absoultely up the wall when there is a book that I want to read out there and I have no way of getting to it.

I hear you Tya. I avoid looking at anyone status updates or reviews when that happens, but it drives me nuts.

I don't mind Julie, she is very "teen". The short story is not necessary for the rest of the book. I've read some of it previously but I think this is the first time I've seen it in its entirety. There is actually very little of Julie in the book. You do see most of the supporting chatacters, Robert and Thomas (Rat Alphas) play larger roles in this book. I have to give Illona and Gordon credit, they write their gay characters very well, their sexual orientation is accepted as is, they aren't discriminated for it, and it's not highlighted as "gay couple", they just are.

Barabas is one of those characters that didn't come into focus for me until I did a re-read of the series one after another then all of sudden realized "hey, I really like this guy, he is a great "babysitter" for Kate, I enjoy their interactions.

The dialogues throughout the book are sharp and hilarious and had me laughing out loud numerous times. The group one about killing Ghastak especially.

My copy has finally gotten here from the library. I was so ticked off y'all. I was number one on the waiting list and two people had it before me. I may or may not have thrown something of a hysterical over the top tantrum . But, I'm admitting nothing.

I finished the audio for Magic Breaks today....all I can say, WOW

I finally finished! I knew that Kate and Curran were going to make the choice that they made! The writing has been on the wall ever since (view spoiler)[ Curran was in a coma for that 11 days and everyone challenged Kate. When he woke up he was so t.o'd and hurt I remember he kept saying that the reason he built the fortress and became the Beast Lord was so that there would be a place for his family to be safe and the fact that he was unconscious for 5 minutes and these people who were supposed to be like family to him were challening her? He was not supes thrilled. I really, really hope that Ilona Andrews/Gordon Andrews does a Curran POV of this book. You knew the second Curran said that he had to spend however much time it was fighting with his council to go and save his Mate that he was officially done with them. (hide spoiler)]

I am really anxious to see what is going to happen now. How did (view spoiler)[ Roland know what house they were going to pick? And I love that his note is all...there's plenty of space for all of my future grandbabies! And an in-law suite! Like...he's coming to stay with them for Christmas or something. Oh. Roland. You are so insane.

And right after I finished this book I started reading another book (it was a DNF. I don't like books that romanticize slavery of AA or Native Americans...just...sorry.) but one of the major plot points in that 30 pages that I got through was a soldrier who had quit his post but still had to interact with his former commander and it was super awkward because they didn't know how to be around each other anymore. I thought about that with Jim/Curran. (hide spoiler)]

I don't like Julie so I skipped/skimmed her short story. She just seems like an everyday ordinary teenager to me. And while I don't think she should wear her drama/trauma on her sleeve I think that there should be some reference to it in her behavior. And if they talked about that and why she acts like a spoiled pack princess in her short story then I take it all back! I still don't like the idea of her with Derek. But, I do think she and Asciano would be super cute together (if they must go there :/) and I think that Asciano would have himself an amazing time dating Julie and rubbing Derek's nose in it. Not because Derek likes her at all, but because she had/has a crush on him but is with Asciano. And because (I HAVE DECIDED) Derek looks at her like a little sister so, Asciano would find it hilarious to date Derek's little sister. Until Kate, Curran, and Derek individually and one by one take him aside and threaten to give Julie his pelt as a coat if he hurts her. See?! Much better than a Julie/Derek hook up.

Also, I know that they have been contracted for 3 more books (10 total) but do you think that the series is heading towards completition? Or, do you think it will keep going on forever? YAY! I'm happy now.

Oh, and, I really liked how they had Barabas give a short summary before the book began. It was a quick and painless way for readers who are wandering the bookstore and may not know that this is 7th in a series to get caught up. But, I wish the book had gone through one last round of editing or something. The Barabas bit seemed tacked on after the book was finished, especially in the beginning chapters. Whenever something from a previous book was mentioned they gave a quick line or two of background to remind us of what had happened. Which is super helpful when you have to wait a year between books...but is kind of annoying when you just read a however many pages long recap.

Though I found the overall plot average and could guess where the book was going from early on. Even the whole Julie thing was clearly going to happen. Maybe I've just read too many books . . .

I am still on page 30 just because I haven't been reading as much I've been watching stuff on the internet netflix, prime. I will say that although the books are good they all follow the same formula so they are usually predictable for me as well. Now that I think of it all UF follow basically the same formula as does all PR.

PNR definitely has its formulas.

There are some points UF series always seem to hit, but they have the most room to step away and have grander plots.

But that can be said for most genres and mediums of story telling.

I think thats the issue with all books (its just more noticeable if you read alot). I was reading...something...last week and it was plot point by plot point Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (there was even a scene where the father was talking to his daughter about sex over a plate of spaghetti...the exact same scene happens in Twilight) and my co-worker was getting upset because she really liked the book. There wasn't anything wrong with it. I ultimately enjoyed the book...but, like someone said that one time all of the stories have already been written. Its just as long as the reader enjoys the ride. I think, when you really think about it--or at least when I really think about it...very few plot points SURPRISE me. I've read thousands of books in my life. The only time anything really surprises me is maybe the first few books in a new genre. But, for me, I genuinely love stories so I rarely get bored when I'm hitting up the same ol' plot points again and again. Y'know what I mean jellybean?

What I meant was UF has a specific formula as does scifi and mystery etc. so yes I agree with you all. this is why PNR usually makes me want to throw up lol.

I just finished Magic Breaks...I unfortunately had had multiple aspects of this spoiled for me ahead of time, but this is my favorite series, so of course I had to read it. I liked how everything turned out, but honestly I'm really just confused about (view spoiler)[ Roland! I mean, he tried to kill her in the womb, he killed her mother, he has sent multiple other beings to kill her, and then once he meets her, he's like - oh, you're cool! You have sweet power (although no way as great as me) so now I want to play protective daddy? What?! Just weird to me. (hide spoiler)]

Cindy that was one of my favorite parts about Roland. He's a nutball! Its like he's decided that they are really just one big dysfunctional family and he has every intention of popping in every Sunday for family dinners and board games. So I finally started Magic Slays its pretty slow right now and I'm hoping it will pick up. Plus she just keeps repeating how happy she is that curran is all hers and how she's the alpha female of the pack blah blah. I like her loner persona better.

Also a bit disgusting and with my imagination I tend to stay away from those things but I've become used to it in these books and just deal with it. Ive come to expect that there will be something disgusting happen to a body in every book basically lol.

Sadly I see no knews about the hardcover. Only that book 7 and 8 have them. At some point I'm sure they'll make the special edition paperbacks into hardcover releases instead.

Gosh, I really hate it when series do that. More than one new edition release is disgusting. What bothers me more is that you've been a loyal fan, bought those paperback that made the series do well. And now have to wait a full year longer to get the paperbacks, or cave and by the hardbacks. Then they've got new covers on paperbacks, but are releasing the matching covers from there on out in hardback.
