I still haven't opened Magic Rises yet. I've had it forever. I think I'm going to wait until the next one is out and read them back to back.

message 202: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I could not do that, it would be there silently sitting there and have some hold over me.

I'm so far behind. I'm even behind on my yearly goal. That's never happened.

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments I haven't read Slays or Rises yet though I have them. Waiting for the next one.

Tya | 846 comments Sorry for the lack of spoiler bars guys! I was so far behind on this series that I just assumed that everyone else had read them.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Just grabbed the Curran Povs! Going to hit them off right after I get caught up.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Heather wrote: "I'm so far behind. I'm even behind on my yearly goal. That's never happened."

This was going to be the year I hit my yearly goal, but it's my weakest start yet. There's just something about 2014.

message 208: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments Oh my gosh, y'all. I think that the Curran POVs are what made me fall for this series to begin with. So much fun. I love Curran and Kate.

message 209: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but: I don't like Julie. I don't know what it is about her, but I don't like her. She is BY FAR my least favorite character. I just read the two chapter preview for the new book and they mention Julie a couple of times in the second chapter and it almost made me not want to read it. Ugh. And it doesn't help that it kind of feels like the second Julie is old enough she's going to hook up with Derek. I LOVE Derek. After Curran and Kate and Jim he's my favorite. I don't even know why. I think thats why I dislike her so much! When I read Julies scenes--especially those with Derek you just know that they are building towards a Julie/Derek hookup of which I do.not.want

message 210: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments That is interesting Tya, I like Julie, but I did think that she was a whiney brat when she first showed up. I'm one that is hoping for a Julie / Derek hookup.

message 211: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments You know Darcy, you would think I'm a crazy person if I told you how much time I've spent thinking about Julie snd I've finally put my finger on it. When she was first introduced I didn't think that she was a whiney brat. But I think she is one now. At first I thought she was a kid that some crap had happened to and now she's just trying to survive. No parents, creepy boyfriend trying to take advantage of her and monsters evety freaking where trying to get to her power. My thing is with a background like the one she has you would yhink that she would be bit more guarded, or that she would have some abandonment issues or something. But she doesnt show any of that. The scenes that we've seen of her have been of the entitled spoiled pack princess variety. Now ive never been good with time lines so I don't know how long she's been with Kate (or how long Kate and Curran have been together for that matter) but it doesn't seem long enough for her to be so confident that they won't turn her away. Now, I do not want her to fall to her knees every time they enter the room like how can two such perfect people who rescued and take care of me so lovingly but some apprehension every now and again or maybe if they showed her acting like a spoiled pack princess because of the power that she has that they do not want getting into Rolands hands so she knows that they won't ditch her---maybe then I could like her. But right jow I think shes just a spoiled brat and I think Derek can do better.

He's had a tough life I would want a soft place for him to land-- and thats not Julie, in my opinion. I hope when the hookup happens its like Cordelia and Wesley on Angel. All build up and then nothing. I had hoped that the relationship could take place off page but for all intents and purposes shes Kate and Currans kid and hes their prodigy (or something) their going to feel some kind of way. So for now I'm hoping that it'll be innocuous enough that I can skip over it, or (I'm sorry to say) that I'll lose interest in the series before it happens. How old is Julie anyway? Somewhere around 13-15? And Derek is 19-21? Did I pull those ages out of a hat? I think there's somevtime before the worst happens.

message 212: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments Tya, I do think that you have the ages right for Julie and Derek at 15/21. I sort of feel like Julie is pulling what Kate had to go through to be accepted by the pack. If you cower, they will walk all over you, however if you show a strong front, they respect that. Also the pack so cherishes kids that all kids get away with so much.

message 213: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments You're right about that--you do have to be tough to make it when you're not a shapeshifter and you're living with the pack. And I don't want her to cower, but...I dunno! I just don't think that they have the right balance, for me, with this character. Its things like, she knows how much money Kate is shelling out for her education (even before she becomes consort) and she keeps running away even though she knows when she does it people with more important things to do have to stop everything and come and track her down (and even though she knows that Kate couldn't afford it she lost the money she shells out). Or, when she wanted to know what was happening with Derek during the whatever games and even though she knows that it was dangerous and people wouldn't be able to do what they needed to be able to do to focus on they to save themselves/each other she didn't care. She's reckless and selfish (and thats understandable because she's a child) but inspite of her age she shouldn't be such a child because of the things that she's done/seen. Yep, thats it.

In my opinion, as a character she's regressed. She's become more childish (could be that she feels safe) and selfish (even when her friend was in dangerous of going loup it was more about it being /her/friend than the sick girl). Maybe she'll grow out of it, but right now I can't tolerate her and am anticipating being able to finish the next book in one sitting because I'll be skipping whenever she's mentioned.

I'm looking forward to it, I liked their edge series.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments I'm really excited for Burn for Me!! Been counting it down.

I've only read the first edge book, but I loved it! So I've got faith.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments I think it's fine here. The Andrews fans of come, regradless.

Yeah, there will probably be a tread for the series soon.

Yep. I was just waiting for it to get closer to the release date, but I'll make it now.

message 222: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments I am torn. I have obviously become super obsessed with this series. I mean. Obviously. But, the newest book is in hardback and costs 19.23...and seriously. Seriously, man? But, my library doesn't even have it listed as a pre-order yet. What am I to do?!

message 223: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I know what you mean, happy for the author, that they have gotten to the next level, but don't want to pay the price. I will be getting it from audible, but it isn't listed there yet, have been checking every day

message 224: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments Usually if I start reading a series in my head I can't switch to audio the voices automatically annoy me lol. I have my own voices for Curan and Kate so I'll have to order it from Amazon or something sadly :(.

message 225: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments The narrator that reads this series is one of my favorites, so I'm ok with listening.

message 226: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments I listened to a sample and she didn't sound like she sounded in my head I didn't find her as snarky and all that good stuff lol. I've gotten really picky with auto books as of lately. Like the guy that does the dresden books goodness does he sound bored out of his mind every time I try to listen I go into a deep slumber and wake up with like half the book done and I havent heard anything . That being said I can listen to the true blood audios with no problem I actually think it makes me like sookie more

message 227: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments Oh, I like the Dresden books on audio, I won't read them any other way. Good thing we all have different tastes! lol I do like the narrator for the Sookie books, she does a good job with them.

message 228: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments Oh my goodness--you are right its a good thing we all have different choices I hate the narrator for Sookie. Then---I don't like the books at all. But, of the one book I did listen to (the first) I thought the narrator made the Sookie sound loud, stupid, and angry and like she was always always yelling. Gross.

I think you've given a pretty good representation of sookie LOL. Thats why I like that narrator plus I feel more like someone is telling me the story than like I am in her stupid brain. I don't like sookie or bill either.

Its always so fascinating to learn about the different tastes we all have. I agree.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Ha-ha! I finally tried both the Dresden books and Cassie Palmer books for audio . . . I just can't stand listening to audios. Harry Potter is the only stuff I can take, otherwise I have to read it.

message 231: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments Do you read the Discovery of Witches trilogy by Deborah Harkness (the first and maybe the second were group read books when they were published) and the narrator for that series is fantastic! I especially like it because there are lots of phrases from other languages in the books and I stumble over them---the narrator doesn't. Its much smoother than when I try to read on my own.

message 232: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments Tya wrote: "Do you read the Discovery of Witches trilogy by Deborah Harkness (the first and maybe the second were group read books when they were published) and the narrator for that series is fantastic! I esp..."

I read the first, but listened to the second and agree that listening is the way to go with these. I plan on listening to the 3rd that just came out.

message 233: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments I got the free audible credit for signing up for Kindle Unlimited free trial so maybe I will get the audio book after all since it will be free.

message 234: by Darcy (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments I will prob start Magic Slays after I finish Silver Shadows.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments I've been thinking about starting Magic Slays next, or next-next, as well.

Yeah I have that problem too. I will have to skip it to the front of the line instead of finishing some of my other currently reading books but I think I just might.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments My problem is that I'm in the middle of a HR, that's turning out to be surprisingly good. And my cravings for Murder of Crows (The Others, #2) by Anne Bishop are starting to drive me mad.

Glad to hear that series is going well. I have some scifi and a ARC that I need to also finish but I'd like to get back to Curran and Kate.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Oh, The Others series is going super well. I haven't felt this in love with a series . . . in a while.

Yeah, I miss Curran and Kate as well.

YOu know how bad I am. ^_-

message 246: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments I really wish I could fly through these books like I used to. I finished all my papers for the week on Monday with the sole purpose of reading like a man woman but I find that I read at a slower pace and have a short attention span now. I feel like I should be doing more work lol. That being said I will catch up.

message 247: by SamBFN (new)

SamBFN | 88 comments Finished Magic Breaks last night. Loved it. I agree Darcy, it should be interesting to see how it moves forward. Glad they put the disclaimer in at the beginning that there are 3 more books as they could have easily left the series as it was. My only beef was that the book came as a hard cover and $28.99 CDN, I ended up buying it as an e-book and will have to wait until it comes in paperback to add to my hard copy collection. It's great that they have become popular enough to move to hardcover, but it sucks as it's more expensive, by the time you take out the character glossary, Barbas's history lesson, and Julie's short story it's not that long of a story.

I agree with you. I'm glad for the authors, but it sucks for the readers. I do know that the publishers wanted them to go the hard cover route the last book, but the authors pushed not to, but they didn't have the same luck this time around.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I really love the choice that Kate and Curran made at the end. It will be interesting how things go forward with all the changes.

message 250: by SamBFN (new)

SamBFN | 88 comments I agree. After their issues in the last book it was so good to see them united in their decisions.

It will be interesting to see how Jim handles things ;-)and how his relationship with Dahli (sp?) proceeds, I think they are planning on doing a short story on Jim.
