***ANY EUROPEAN COUNTRY, ANY TIME PERIOD***

Okay everyone, it's that time of the month - time to nominate! Anyone who would like to nominate ONE book may do so in this thread.

The theme this month is YOUR CHOICE - FICTION (any European country, any time period). We've had three non-fiction winners back-to-back for this group read, so I think it's time to get some fiction!

If you want to see if we have already read a book you are thinking of nominating, just look at the sections where we discuss the books (E. Royalty Monthly Group Read and History Monthly Group Read). The very first thread under each of those sections lists all the books we have read as a group (Books We Have Read as a Group).

Please try to check amazon or some other site to make sure the book is easily available - the last thing we want is to nominate some great book that no one can get! If you nominate more than ONE book, only the first book listed will make it into the voting thread (so save additional books for the next months!). Also, if the book doesn't fit the theme, I won't add it to this month's voting list, but I will carry it over to the next theme that it does fit under if you would like.

Feel free to nominate one book of your choice in this thread until March 9th, 9pm Eastern.

At around that time, I'll make a voting poll and list all the nominated books in it, and people can vote in the poll until the poll closes (around end of March 13th). Discussion can start on APRIL 15th.

Happy Nominating!

Mandy Moody | 544 comments I want to nominate Hugh and Bess
Hugh and Bess by Susan Higginbotham

It's sitting on my nightstand and I need an excuse to get to it! It looks wonderful.
Plus, it's not too long, which would probably encourage more members to read along :)

Misfit | 696 comments I'll nominate The Scarlet Lion by Elizabeth Chadwick since it's being released soon in the US.

Tina My first nomination! How exciting. Hope it fits.
Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks.

Sara | 6 comments Can I nominate... The Memoirs of Mary Queen of Scots by Carolly Erickson ? I'm really looking for an excuse to drop everything and read this one.

Amanda Roper (fig_and_thistle_books) I'd like to nominate Wolf Hall. I know that Tudor-tales can be overdone, but this one is a Booker Winner and concerns Thomas Cromwell (a historical figure I'm dying to know more about).

Cel Jel | 15 comments I second The Scarlet Lion by Elizabeth Chadwick

Sara | 6 comments I think I'd like to cancel my suggestion. I'm barely through the first few chapters and it is very boring. Can I second Wolf Hall instead?

Hehe, I was keeping my mouth shut and behaving myself on that one :p

Sara | 6 comments Yeah, well, I'm officially embarrassed. You'd think she could have done more with Mary Queen of Scots. Oh well...That was a close one.

Oh don't be embarrssed, it's actually fun what *crap* she comes up with at the end. Mary escapes capitivity and plots with the Pope for a holy war to oust Elizabeth, Bothwells dresses up as a peddler and visits her in her prison and they even make whoopee. Pretty much every thing but leaping tall buildings with a single bound.....

(forgive me for going OT, I couldn't help myself)

Sara | 6 comments Well now, I am tempted to give it another try. ;)

No no no. That would be considered cruel and unusual punishment :p
