Chapter Six

Alexei saw his question tear into Karina, like a physical injury. She flinched hard. Part of him felt sadistic in doing that to her. And part of him, that cynical part of him forged in the fire of dark deeds and the reality of life in the world, felt he was doing her a favor. In his mind, he was almost sure that Karina probably wasn’t involved in the ambush attempt against him. And he wasn’t the sort to jump to conclusions. He was methodical in his thinking as they came. That’s what had kept him alive so long. He hadn’t known her very long, that was true. But he was able to read people pretty well, and he had the concrete belief she was not capable of that sort of act, despite having hired him to kill Fleming. Hell, she’d even gotten the idea from Sullivan. Maybe he wanted to believe it about her, so he could have her for other purposes. But, he believed it was a fringe benefit more than anything else. Because at this point, his plans definitely included getting horizontal with this woman. Perhaps in a few other directions, as well.
And Sullivan’s tender guidance…it set off all kinds of alarms. And he could admit that he might be a little jealous. He didn’t like the idea of her taking solace from any man, other than him. Alexei was calling himself a damned fool, even as he stared at this woman who was making him want to do lots of things to her, and with her. And not one of them having the remotest things to do with revenge.
He looked at her, hard. Trying to figure out what made him want her so much. She was beautiful, perhaps in a way that wouldn’t appeal to every man. But it sure as hell appealed to her. Her body, luscious, despite being too thin. Her plump lips that looked and lasted like succulent fruit. Those glorious eyes that hid nothing from him. He wanted to see her with blue-black hair, no doubt wildly curly and framing that beautiful oval of her face. He wanted to see her face resplendent with passion, that he had given her. But, he didn’t want to see that look of pain on her face, like she wore at this very moment.
He watched her gain control of herself. She exhaled deeply, taking a mental effort to shake off the urge to cry. You would think that the last two years of her life would have ripped all the gentleness right out of her. It didn’t see to have done so. Despite that tendency to cry, she was no weakling. She was strong enough to keep going, despite how she’d suffered. He felt a strange admiration for her because of that.
“Sullivan, behind my parents death,” she repeated hoarsely, as if she was tasting the words, and finding them bitter on her tongue.
“Yes,” Alexei said, watching her closely. “Could he gain access to your father’s technology if your father was dead?”
Karina seemed to search her thoughts. “The patents,” she said out loud.
“Yes, the patents. Who did the rights go back to if your father was dead?”
As he said it, he could see the truth dawn on her. It was like watching someone die of a broken heart. The stages of grief crossed her face, as she realized how badly she’d been played. Her hazel eyes grew cold. She seemed to turn to stone. “How stupid of me.” Her voice had the coldness of her those eyes. “Sullivan probably sold the rights to Fleming. I didn’t understand why production didn’t begin right away. I assumed it was due to legal tape about my father’s estate. It took several months, and then, the announcement was made that FutureTech Industries would begin production on the specialized weapons.” She spoke in a casual tone, almost as if she was speaking to herself. “Smart weapons with a revolutionary chip that made them much more efficient for killing.” She grimaced. “Even though he understood the necessity of a strong military, my father would never had wanted his microchip tech to be used to make war weapons. He was philanthropic to the bone.”
Alexei wondered what her father would have thought of him, and then he wondered why he cared the least about it. “And Sullivan wasn’t so likeminded in that regard,” Alexei added.
Karina glanced over at him, almost as if she was surprised he was there. He didn’t like that she could banish him from her thoughts. Not when he had no such luck in that fashion. Oh, how his comrades from the unit would have laughed at him now. Ice cold Bardin, who could cut a man’s throat and not feel a thing. Acting like a lovestruck fool over a woman who had paid him to kill another man. But he was no fool. The other part of that equation was still up for analysis.

Sullivan is a bad person. He might even come after Karina or have someone try to kill her, but Alexei would die first.

Alexei needs to stop trying to fight his feelings for Karina. It's there! :)

Chapter Six (continued)
Warning: Profanity

Karina glanced over at him, almost as if she was surprised he was there. He didn’t like that she could banish him from her thoughts. Not when he had no such luck in that fashion. Oh, how his comrades from the unit would have laughed at him now. Ice cold Bardin, who could cut a man’s throat and not feel a thing. Acting like a lovestruck fool of a woman who had paid him to kill another man. But he was no fool. The other part of that equation was still up for analysis.
Alexei’s jealousy and uncertainty about his feelings for this woman caused his next words to be cruel. He made a ‘tsk’ sound. “You simply need to learn to be less trustful, Karina.”
Karina glared at him with enough heat to sear him well-done. He liked it. It showed him the carefully banked fire that this woman hid from the world. Of course, he’d rather see that passion as sexual. But, that could wait for now.
“Well, we need to go see this Sullivan,” he said cheerfully. As if he wasn’t planning to kill a man. The cheerful tone was nothing more than a distraction for his frigidly cold anger at the man. He had one more reason to kill Sullivan. He had betrayed this woman, and her family, who seemed like good people. Once upon a time, family had held meaning to Alexei. Now that was all gone. Karina now shared that fate, thanks to Sullivan. And, despite his lack of morals, that didn’t sit well on Alexei.
Karina threw her head back and regarded the ceiling, as if it had the answers to all her eternal questions inscribed into its rustic, sturdy construction. Alexei liked how that pose unwittingly emphasized the smooth lines of her chin and graceful curve of her neck. He wanted to trace the edges with his tongue. “So, you’re saying we’re going to go to Ireland, and confront Sullivan. And I suppose this will end with you killing him,” she said, distracting him from his amorous thoughts.
“We’ll do it with some more finesse than you’ve implied, but, yes.”
Karina focused her incredible eyes on him. They made his ice cold blood start to simmer. “What makes you think he won’t kill me on sight?”
“He won’t,” Alexei said. He was certain of that. Sullivan seemed to have plans for Karina. He thought that perhaps the move to try to turn the assassin she hired against him was a ploy to get her to come to him for protection. He suspected that the goons might have been expected to bring her to Sullivan, if they succeeded in killing him. Which was unlikely, with his reputation. A reputation that was well-earned, and Alexei wasn’t being arrogant about that. More likely, they would die going after Alexei, and set him on Karina, sending her running to ‘papa’ so to speak. Now, he was going to play the pawn and watch Sullivan go for it.
“You’re going to contact Sullivan, and tell him you want to come to him for protection.”
Karina’s eyes widened. She bit her lower lip, as if she was thinking hard. “Do you really think he’ll fall for it?”
“He’s expecting it, Dulce,” he replied smoothly, without any hesitation.
Her eyes getting dark with wariness, he knew she understood the endearment. “Why did you call me that?” She gave him one of those looks that showed that despite how much she feared him, underneath, he fascinated her. Inside, he smiled.
He shrugged. “It’s just an expression.”
“Don’t call me that.” She delivered the edict in sharp slaps of sound.
“What should I call you, then?”
“Karina,” she said harshly. Her eyes snapped at him, glowing with her resentment. “My name.”
Damn, she was beautiful, sitting there glaring at him, her golden skin so soft, he wanted to lick her. In fact, he planned on it. He wanted to goad her more, to see her vibrate with anger. Anger that mirrored other passions she liked to keep hidden. But he wouldn’t let her hide from him. At least for now, he’d have her anger, if not the other passion. “But, that’s not your name.”
Her anger faded. Shoulders slumping with defeat, the weight of the world on those slender, smooth shoulders. “It is now.” Alexei told himself that he didn’t feel a damn thing when she was hurt like that. He’d keep telling himself that until he believed it.
“Then take back your life. Look Sullivan in the eyes, and call his bluff. I’ll make sure he’s no longer a problem for either of us.” Alexei delivered the words like a mission statement. A siren call. He wanted her engaged. He wanted to see her fight for what was hers. He had a feeling she’d be magnificent when she did.
She regarded him with a wary gaze. “And then you’ll take care of the problem I’ve caused for you,” Karina replied.
She didn’t realize that they were so beyond that now. And Alexei wasn’t ready for that to change. The best strategist played his cards close to his chest. And in the marathon chess game that was his life, strategy had always been crucial for Alexei. Instead, he shrugged. “You’re not my biggest problem, in the scheme of things. We have a common enemy. As the saying goes, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.”
Karina stared at him. He could see her trying to figure him out. Her eyes, like smooth, iridescent pools, showed every emotion she felt. “A partnership with you…it’s bad for my health.”
No, Alexei thought. It’s bad for mine. He got up then. “I’ll get your computer. You’re going to send Mr. Sullivan an email.” He walked away from her then. He didn’t look back.

Karina sent the email. Although she didn’t like that he was dictating the exact words, she typed them as he directed.
Liam. I’m afraid. He’s after me. I need somewhere safe. I need to come to you. Please expect me. I don’t want to bring my troubles to you. But, I have nowhere else to go.
Alexei knew that these words would have Sullivan triumphing.
Karina asked questions. Good questions. He was proud of her. “So, are you going to tail me, and stay hidden the whole time.”
“No,” Alexei said. “I’m going with you. I’ll be your boyfriend that you picked up trolling around Europe.”
Karina stared at him, her mouth open. “He’s so not going to believe that,” she said.
“Why not?” Alexei asked. Amused, despite himself. He was not in the least bit offended.
“Well, I never dated when I was at home. I’m a big, huge nerd. It’s not like I all of a sudden became a social butterfly, being on the run, and all. And picked up sexy Russian/French, whatever you are, boyfriend.”
Alexei arched a dark brow. “Why not?” He leaned forward, running a finger down her cheek briefly before taking his hand away. “You came out of your shell, enjoying your new identity. I was drawn to the new you, like a moth to a flame.” What she didn’t know, was how true the words were.
Karina considered what he said. She was biting her lip, and tilting her head in that way of hers, when she was thinking hard. “I don’t see a man like you going for a girl like me.”
“All you need is a makeover and some new clothes. You show up looking like a woman who came into herself, and found a man in the process, he wouldn’t be suspicious.”
“Do you really think he wouldn’t suspect you?”
Alexei shook his head. “Most hired killers lay low. They don’t draw attention to himself. I’d have to be crazy or foolish to come out of the woodwork just for revenge.”
“Are you crazy?” Karina asked.
“No,” Alexei said. “I’m as sane as they come. I just don’t like getting fucked over.”
Karina flinched at the harsh word, and likely the menace behind the word. She sighed. “Look. I don’t know much about these things. My MO these past two years is fading into the background. But, I suspect that Sullivan probably has security tighter than the Palace of Versailles during tourist season.”
“Which is why going in as your boyfriend is perfect. And it’s to your advantage. I’ll be there to protect you.”
“Why don’t you just throw me to the wolves? Wasn’t that the plan initially?” She asked bitterly.
Alexei didn’t answer her at first. He chose his words carefully. “Oh, my dear. You are much too valuable for that.” That was the truth, in more ways than one.

Thanks for reading, Kathy Anne. A pantser is a writer who writes on the seat of her pants, in other words, she makes up the story as she goes along. That's so my writing style. I might have some scenes in my head, and a general idea, but I don't plot out my stories in advance. Have a good night.

Chapter Seven
Karina sat next to her kidnapper in his Range Rover, as he drove them to Lyon. The plan was to do some shopping for their trip to Ireland. She was struck anew at the surreal nature of her current situation. She had a ‘fake’ boyfriend who had once been determined to torture her. Now, he was bent on giving her a makeover. Oh, she forgot the part where she, soft-hearted person who had never had an enemy in her life, had ordered someone to be killed. Her soul shrank at the knowledge. The black sin of it sat heavily on her. Even thinking of the last time she’d seen her parents didn’t make the weight of that trespass any lighter. And now, she knew that she might have ordered the death of the wrong man.
A soul-sickness seemed to be spreading through her. No amount of regret seemed to clean her of it. And the only time it went to the back of her mind was when this man taunted her. It was then that her mother’s feisty spirit seemed to erupt from her, and she said things to him she never would have felt the courage to say to anyone.
Karina darted a quick look at him. His profile was clean and as though it was chiseled out of marble. Today, he was sharply groomed, his longish hair glossy and blue black. He had changed into a turtleneck to complement black jeans that clung to heavily-muscled thighs that moved as he shifted gears. Those hands of his, large, but strangely graceful looking. She shivered at the memory of them passing over her skin, both before, and later. And this morning, the quick brush of his hand against her face, like the rustling of a baby bird’s wings. How they were slightly callused against her skin. The latent power in those hands.
She told herself it was fear that struck her at the memories. Oh, yes. That was there. But something else. Something that stirred when he looked at her with those sharp black eyes that missed absolutely nothing. He was deadly and dangerous, and he wanted, no demanded, for her to trust him. But, what choice did she have? His calm logical words regarding Sullivan made things all too clear. She was on a ride she couldn’t get off of. And hoping that she’d live to see the end. Or maybe, living wasn’t what she wanted? Maybe she wanted to be with her parents.
No, a voice insisted. You are going to get out of this alive. You’ll pay for your sins. We always do. And God-willing, you’ll survive. This man here will get tired of playing games with his bait, since he wanted to catch the bigger fish, and he’d walk away. And she’d crawl off someone and Thank God that she’d survived him.
On the heels of that thought, the vivid memory of his kiss stabbed into her brain. How could he kiss so sweetly, so softly? It wasn’t her first kiss, but darn near close. The few before that stolen by intrepid prep school boys and the odd grad student simply paled in comparison. She could still taste him on her lips. The sharp, hot taste of unadulterated male that matched his scent, like the woods on a breezy night. Pure, fresh, and a little wild.
“Would you like to hear some music?” His deep voice sounded the question out in the vehicle, drawing her from inward thoughts. It took her a while to realize he asked the question in English, lightly flavored with his Russian accent. Her immersion in languages was so complete that she often forgot which language was being spoken. It was all the same to her in her head.
She looked over at him, and their eyes met briefly. His shadowed, yet knowing. Assuredly, hers were filled with wariness. But, something in them made him smile. He cocked a brow questioningly in a way that seemed very French, and she remembered that he had asked her a question. “Sure,” she said. The desire to listen to music was the last priority for her, but it was an answer, and maybe the music would quiet her chaotic thoughts.
He turned on the radio, and the sounds of chillout electronic music filled the car. The beat was sensuous and sexy, pouring out of the state of the art sound system. It invoked an intimacy in the car, as the music wrapped around them. She noted Alexei tapping a beat out on the steering wheel. The action made him seem human. Before now, she had doubted his humanity. He seemed like a machine, acting and reacting. Save for the highly cunning nature that showed in his eyes. But, maybe she was the automaton, reacting to his cues. Briefly, she thought again about escaping, going to the restroom in one of the shops, and disappearing on the streets of Lyon. There were two problems with that: He had her bag, with her computer and the identification she’d paid top money for. She didn’t want to think about her chances without the latter, and hated leaving the former. The other problem was, she knew he’d find her. When he’d told her that last night, she knew it wasn’t a hollow threat. And, on top of that, there was the risk that other assailants might pose for her. Who was to say that Sullivan hadn’t dispatched more men to come after her? As much as she hated to admit it, Alexei felt more safe to her than the unknown quotient. He was going to keep her alive, at least as long as it took to get his revenge. As the saying went, “The devil you know.”
And right now, even if it hurt to admit it, it felt good to be able to lean on someone for protection. She’d been alone too long, she told herself. And going from being Momma and Daddy’s little girl, still living at home, even in her twenties, she was on her own, with no one to watch her back. She wasn’t made for this life of darting here and there, always running. Not knowing anyone she could trust. And, to her damnation, that was made her contact Sullivan in the first place. Bad nightmares, sleepless nights. Lonely moments that broke through the rigid self-control that cautioned her to trust no one. Look where it had gotten her? A dead man on her conscience, and a very angry assassin holding her captive. And a makeover, she thought hysterically. Oh, let’s not forget a trip to Lyon. What a nice way top things off.
The female singer’s voice broadcasted her desire in breathy bursts, over the sensual melody of synthesizer teamed with violin.
“Love me, trust me
Take me, kill me
Thrill me, fill me
I’ll die only in your arms”
Oh, that was great. Just what she needed right now. A sexy song while she was trapped in the car with a sexy man who happened to be drop dead gorgeous in the truest sense.
Alexei chuckled then.
She looked up at him. His eyes were on the road. But, he responded to her questioning glance, as if he could feel her eyes on him. “Marasia. French pop singer who’s trying to get herself out of the teen scene.”
“And you know that because?”
He raised an eyebrow at her, before putting his gaze back on the road. “I do listen to music.”
“And apparently, you keep up with the music scene.” Feeling the strange urge to tease, she added, “I suppose you have a pop music collection stashed away somewhere.”
Alexei laughed. The sound was more alluring than the sexy music coming off the radio. Karina felt her insides quiver at the sound of his deep, husky laugh. She found that she had to look at him. He laughed with a freedom that she had never seen him express before. Last night he had been cold and lethal, completely devoid of emotion. This morning, he had been almost cruel and incisive in his interrogation. But cold in a different way. Now, there seemed to be another man in the car with her. His head was thrown back, showing the strong lines of his throat. Then, he looked over at her, his black eyes dancing. Karina felt the draw of him. In that moment, her fear of him had been pushed to the periphery, and all she could experience was the pure, male, unadulterated beauty of him. It was like a slap to the face. She realized she was in deep trouble, because he had become in that moment, not a monster who wanted to hurt her, to tear her soul to pieces, but an attractive man. It inspired a very different kind of fear in her.
She averted her gaze, so he wouldn’t see that in her eyes. Naïve and inexperienced she was. But she was fully aware that he seemed to be very good at reading her. She couldn’t allow that to continue. Karina was going to have to learn to play the game well. It was not a game she could lose.
She swallowed, pulling the threads of her self-control tightly around her. More than aware that her voice trembled, she said something to diffuse the tension thick as molasses between them. “I won’t tell.”
If he realized what her gambit was, he didn’t let on. “Glad to hear it.”
They lapsed into silence, and the song finally ended. The next song wasn’t so overtly sexual, more along the lines of new age nature music. But the tension remained. At least until the passing scenery of the countryside and the soothing songs that followed Marasia lulled Karina to sleep.
Despite her mastery of the French language, Karina knew no more about Lyon than she had garnered from her study of French. Luckily, she woke up from her nap as Alexei drove into the outer city limits. This was her first visit to the second largest city in France, and it could be her last chance to see it, depending on how things went in the next few days. After a while, her tension level went down slightly as she fell into tourist mode. Lyon, like Paris, was a mix of old and new. The traffic was heavy on the freeway leading into Lyon, but Alexei navigated it smoothly. He appeared utterly relaxed, comfortable driving, as if he was more than familiar with the roads. Of course, she’d never seen him flustered. He probably was perfectly competent when he was killing someone, as well. Immediately, Karina steered her thoughts away from that.
They didn’t speak. The music flowed into the car, and things seemed almost companionable, as Karina leaned forward, watching the sights. After a short time, Alexei started to point out the monuments to her.

Chapter Seven (continued)

Alexei was very familiar with this ancient city, founded during Roman times. It was no hardship listening to his baritone voice describe the city through his knowledgeable eyes. Before she knew it, he was turning onto rue du President-Herriot, where the most upscale women’s couture shops could be found in Lyon. Of course, she didn’t know that until she asked.
"Lyon used to be a major center for silk production, so it has to hold its own in a competition with Paris for fashionability.”
Karina liked the way he said the names of the cities in a way that was very effortless and very French, with the drawn out vowels that sounded very sleek with his voice.
Alexei bypassed valet parking and parked his car in such a manner to allow quick egress. He walked around and took her arm, which Karina cynically thought was to prevent her from running away. She tried not to be wide eyed when they walked into a boutique. The inside was all glass and metal. Even the mannequins were silver, gold, and copper. Here and there, sparse groupings of white chairs took up little space. The floors were pealescent tiles, and their shoes clicked like the sound of tiny pieces of glass breaking as they walked across the large showroom. Clothing in all the rainbows of colors were artfully displayed around the large, airy showroom, under track lighting designed to make the most of the interior space. The boutique was absolutely chic, and Karina was absolutely certain that the price tag matched the quality of the clothing displayed. Schooling her expression to hide her nervousness, she unconsciously moved closer to Alexei when an utterly poised red-headed woman in her early thirties glided over.
She envied how effortlessly graceful Frenchwomen were. They seemed to be born that way. Karina thought of her mother, who had been very elegant and fashionable. She tried to pass some of that knowledge onto Karina, but she was more like her father, in her own head, and not that concerned about her appearance, other than wearing comfortable clothes that were neat and clean. She smoothed a hand down her shirt, which was probably rumpled from the car ride, glancing at the saleswoman, who wore an beautifully-tailored pantsuit in burgundy, with a silk camise top of black.
She felt completely out of place here. Looking over and up at Alexei, she found that despite his somewhat casual attire, his poise and grace—the air that he exuded that made him seem so very French—made him appear at home, even in this female environment. Alexei smiled at the lady as she approached. And Lord have mercy, his smile was utterly devastating. She could see the impact on the saleswoman. Who knew that the hard lines of his face would have twin dimples on either side of his chiseled, but appealingly full lips. “Bonjour.”
“Bonjour,” the star-struck woman replied.
Alexei clasped an arm around Karina’s waist possessively. With a respectful nod of acknowledgment, he broke into rapid French without a hint of his Russian accent. The saleswoman, who gave her name, Brigitte, listened with a look on her attractive features like she wanted to eat Alexei for dessert. For some inexplicable reason, it caused a curl of annoyance within Karina to see how the woman was eating him with her eyes. But she didn’t want to contemplate that right now. It wasn’t like he was her real boyfriend. Please. With his tall, built body, those hard, but even features, and that thick, glossy hair that tumbled back from his face and nearly down to his shoulders, of course women would appreciate the view. But, they didn’t realize what he was really like underneath the elegant façade he put on so well, like she did.
“My girlfriend needs some new clothes. She’s finally allowed me to spoil her,” Alexei drawled, shooting Karina an indulgent boyfriend look.
Brigitte slid green eyes over Karina. Her expression was a carefully courteous mask, but Karina suspected that dismay lurked behind the polite smile.
“She’s American,” Alexei said.
Brigitte nodded, as if that explained everything. Karina wanted to roll her eyes badly. She took a deep breath to shrug it off.
Alexei gave Brigitte instructions for the clothing he wanted for his ‘girlfriend.’ “I want a full wardrobe for my lady,” he said, caressing her waist. Casual and intimate, his body language sent a strong message to the saleswoman that her green eyes seemed to register. From the outside looking in, Alexei was a man showing a familiarity with his lover’s body. Karina didn’t feel so casual about it. Her skin reacted to the touch, even though layers of clothes. Nerve endings she didn’t even realize she had were firing off. His hand was a burning brand as it brushed her waist. When Karina would have pulled away, he clasped her to him tighter. She schooled her features not to react to the sensation of being plastered against his hard body. Again, the feeling of familiarity of contact between them hit her.
“Bright, jewel-like colors. Not much black. No pants, save a pair of jeans or two if we go walking. I want to see every outfit she tries on.” Alexei was playing the indulgent lover to the hilt. She wanted to hit him and tell him to go to Hell. But, Karina knew playing along was the best option. Although he wasn’t holding her tightly enough to hurt her, his arm was a band of immovable steel around her waist.
Alexei ran his hand over the curve of her waist, lingering lightly over the upper curve of her bottom. He even had the nerve to give a squeeze. Karina would have jumped away, but she could not hardly move an inch the way he was holding her. “My woman, she has quite the body. I’d like her clothes to hint at those curves. Nothing too flagrant,” Alexei said, his eyes proprietary as he considered his ‘girlfriend’ Karina.
Brigitte shook her head. “Eh, absolument pas. Subtle is always more sexy.” She smiled in a manner that was knowing, yet dignified. “All the better to know that you alone will see what is hinted at.”
“Definitely,” Alexei said. “I don’t share what is mine.” If it was possible, he pulled her even tighter against him. Karina could feel every line of his rock hard body pressed against her side. He looked down at Karina. If his expression was anything to go by, he was imagining stripping all her clothes off even now. Everything in his manner screamed possession. Anyone looking in from the outside would have fallen for it; hook, line, and sinker.
The heat in his eyes, and the way in which his hand leisurely roved over her hip as if it was an often-repeated motion, sent her temperature up several degrees. It’s just an act, Karina told herself. But her body didn’t seem to care, going by her racing pulse and the inexplicably hot blood pumping through her veins. She looked up into his eyes, and fell, trapped there. They were hot and liquid, rich and deep, like melted dark chocolate. She couldn’t look away to save her life. Even though her brain told her that everything in those fathomless depths was a lie.
Brigitte discreetly cleared her throat. Alexei broke eye contact first. Karina looked over the saleswoman to see her blushing pink like a rose. Her long, carefully manicured nails fiddled with the scarf smartly tied around her swanlike neck. “Well, perhaps I can get you settled into one of our private showing rooms.”
Alexei took his time in nodding. As though he had all the time in the world, he leaned over and placed a leisurely kiss on Karina’s lips. Contact seemed to last an hour, and less than a second, at the same time. Her lips sizzled like she’d touched them to an electric live wire. When he pulled back from the kiss, his eyes resonated with desire. An act, she told herself, as Alexei murmured, “We’d like that,” to Brigitte. He never looked at Brigitte as he did it, as if he and Karina were in a world of their own making. Karina felt like the force of his charisma had generated some impenetrable field around them, sealing her into his sphere, and under his command.
When he finally faced forward and started steering them in Brigitte’s wake, his arm still like a band around her lower waist, Karina was breathing like she’d taken a flight of stairs at full speed. He seemed as calm and composed as ever. The bastard.

Alexei was having a little too much fun at Karina's expense. He's playing the boyfriend alright and not a false one in his book. The man is claiming his woman. Marking his terrority. That's why he can't keep his hands to himself. He has to touch.

I can only imagine what he's going to do in the private room.

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) And Danielle,
It is so different reading a story where the F word isn`t in every other sentence, without rhyme or reason.
I have enjooyed reading without it for a change.

I don't care for unnecessary profanity. But it felt true to Alexei's character.

Danielle, as I have said in my story thread. I don't like reading cuss words in anyone's story and I know that you believe in putting up warnings. I have to be honest, I don't recall seeing a cuss word in your story. Maybe because I automatically skip curse words.

You are okay.

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) Danielle...I didn`t mean mild or moderate cuss words,I meant the erotica book kind, you know what I mean?
I have been around guys and lots of moderate to mild all my life and it doesn`t bother me much, but I just think the F word ,which I had in mind there ,is now so common I`m not sure some authors even consider it a cuss word,I`ve even been known to need my mouth washed out,-Sometimes I think they are definitly more frutration talking than anything.

That's Sam's favorite cuss word and I don't like reading my baby saying that word.
