This is one of my favorites, and I re-read it fairly often. I prefer the first part to the second, as a whole. I guess I find Jo more interesting in the first part. She is impetuous and passionate; she hasn't learned to govern her actions and emotions, as society expects her to. I still, after all the many times I've read this book, laugh when she announces earnestly that she is the man of the family, and she will provide the slippers.
