Read a book from your favorite series.

Please summarize the overall series in 2-3 sentences so that everyone can decide if they want to start a new series.

message 2: by Ashley FL (new)

Ashley FL | 721 comments Oh Bridgit, I think I love you!!! I'm reading a few series right now that I adore, and I'm so excited to learn about others!

message 3: by Bridgit (new)

Bridgit | 505 comments I wanted to give one to the people!!! :)

message 4: by Erin (NY) (new)

Erin (NY) (erin_p) | 628 comments Just to clarify: do we have to have read the entire series? (In which case it would be a rearead?) I love the task by the way!

message 5: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) | 1002 comments That's a good question, Erin. The next book of my favorite series comes out on the 9th and I was hoping to read that for this task!

message 6: by Jayme (new)

Jayme (jaymetheghostreader) | 2835 comments I don't think we have to read the whole series. I do have an unfinished series.

message 7: by Ashley FL (new)

Ashley FL | 721 comments Kathryn wrote: "That's a good question, Erin. The next book of my favorite series comes out on the 9th and I was hoping to read that for this task!"
You do realize that I somehow have to fit all ten of these books in somehow?!?! Ack!

message 8: by Jayme (new)

Jayme (jaymetheghostreader) | 2835 comments all 10 of what books?

message 9: by Bridgit (last edited Mar 01, 2010 08:02PM) (new)

Bridgit | 505 comments No, no. Ideally its a new book, in an unfinished series. But you can reread if you really want to.

message 10: by Ashley FL (new)

Ashley FL | 721 comments Jayme wrote: "all 10 of what books?"The

Private series by Kate Brian. Kathryn was my #1 "Friend of Friend" and it was her 5 star book and it is awesome and I am hooked. I went to boarding school (the one this seems to be based on, actually), though my reality was nothing like these books!

But there are ten of them! And I'm having trouble finding tasks for all of them, as you might imagine ;)

message 11: by Jayme (new)

Jayme (jaymetheghostreader) | 2835 comments what if the series is finished but you haven't read the whole series?

message 12: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) | 1002 comments What boarding school did you go to, if you don't mind my asking?

message 13: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 1295 comments You are so awesome. I may get all the Sookie books I have to read (from #3 on) into the challenge yet!

message 14: by Ashley FL (new)

Ashley FL | 721 comments I went to Choate. Parts seem to definitely be from Choate, though the school-named-for-town thing might be Groton?

Anyway, I have fun imagining it taking place in buildings I know.

message 15: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) | 1002 comments The series is nothing like the boarding school I went to. Granted, mine was a small christian one out of the country...

I thought boarding school was a good experience. Everyone says I am harsh when I say I want to send my hypothetical kids to boarding school.

message 16: by Cait (new)

Cait Poytress (caitertot) | 648 comments Bridgit, would Bite Me by Christopher Moore work for this task, or is that too much of a stretch? It's not a typical numbered series, but it's the third book written about the same group of characters (just from different POVs).

message 17: by Ashley FL (new)

Ashley FL | 721 comments Well, when I say it was like my school, I don't mean the secret-dorm-society part. THAT would be cool. But no.

I thought it was a great experience. My 9 year old says she'd like to go. But now that my hypothetical children are real, I have a hard time imagining letting any of them go away that young. But we live in the South. When I went, it was only an hour from my house.

That's my justification, and I'm sticking to it.

message 18: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) | 1002 comments lol, I didn't think you mean secret society type things. I just think it helped me grow up and become more independent of my family. My sister (who didn't go to boarding school) freaked out and dropped out of college, though she is going back. I think it helped me grow.

message 19: by Jayme (new)

Jayme (jaymetheghostreader) | 2835 comments I didn't go to boarding school and went away to college and didn't drop out.

message 20: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) | 1002 comments I wasn't saying that you need to go to boarding school and in order to not drop out. I just know it helped me a lot.

message 21: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sandra72) | 709 comments Would these work?

The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown
Shopaholic and Baby by Sophie Kinsella
Deadly Décisions by Kathy Reichs

message 22: by Petra (new)

Petra Would you consider a book from a Trilogy to be part of a Series? Or are you looking for a series longer than that?

message 23: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) | 1002 comments Oh, I forgot that The Lost Symbol and all of those books were a "Robert Langdon Series". I quiet like that series!

message 24: by Bridgit (new)

Bridgit | 505 comments Cait wrote: "Bridgit, would Bite Me by Christopher Moore work for this task, or is that too much of a stretch? It's not a typical numbered series, but it's the third book written about the same ..."

I'll take it.

Bridgit | 505 comments Petra wrote: "Would you consider a book from a Trilogy to be part of a Series? Or are you looking for a series longer than that?"

Trilogies will work.

message 26: by Bridgit (new)

Bridgit | 505 comments Jayme wrote: "what if the series is finished but you haven't read the whole series?"

that doesnt matter. Just read a book from a series. The task is really just meant to help people (like me!!) fit in the books they have been really been looking forward to reading this season from their fave authors.

Yes. If it has a number (like #3) in the title, it will automatically count.

Bridgit | 505 comments Nicole wrote: "You are so awesome. I may get all the Sookie books I have to read (from #3 on) into the challenge yet!"

Ha! I actually did think about you when I had decided on this task! Glad to help!

message 29: by El (new)

El So if you don't have a favorite series - like those of us who don't usually read series - it can just be any book from a currently unfinished series, correct?

message 30: by Katie (new)

Katie (katieisallbooked) | 260 comments I love you, Bridgit! LOL

I love so many different series and I'm always trying to figure out a way to incorporate books from those into my challenge.

message 31: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments What if you've read all the books from your favorite series? I'd rather not re-read. Like El asked, can we read from any unfinished series?

message 32: by Bridgit (new)

Bridgit | 505 comments El wrote: "So if you don't have a favorite series - like those of us who don't usually read series - it can just be any book from a currently unfinished series, correct?"

message 35: by Heather (new)

Heather | 384 comments I am wondering, too, if I can use the first book in a series. I would like to read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

message 36: by Bridgit (new)

Bridgit | 505 comments First in a series will work too.

I have all 3 from that series hon. I plan on reading his 1st book for a task as well lol.

message 40: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments You have all 3?! Lucky! The 3rd one hasn't released in the States yet. That's why I've tried to pace myself between releases. It's time to do this one.

I WOULD have done Catching Fire BUUUUT the 3rd book isn't out until August. Trying to hold out until Jun/Jul :P

Yes you can, Bridgit is letting me do that.

message 42: by Asho (new)

Asho | 181 comments Okay, so, just to clarify, I can either read a new book from a series that is still in progress OR I can re-read a book from a series or trilogy that is completed that I have already read once?

message 43: by Bridgit (new)

Bridgit | 505 comments yes. any book from any series. New read or reread. first book in the series or anywhere in between.

message 44: by Kate (new)

Kate (klc23) | 161 comments Would One Good Turn work? Atkinson used the same main character in Case Histories: A Novel.
