Rosh Hoshana was last week. Yom Kippur was today (ended at sunset). Sukkot is next week for 8 days starting on Wednesday. Hanukkah is in December.

Well in the Spring you have Pesach/Passover then the days of Unleaved Bread start. Then the folowing Sunday is Firstfruits and about a month later (40 days after Passover) is Shavuot/Pentecost. So the feasts come in two bunches one in the spring with the spring harvests and the other in the fall with the fall harvests.

Hanukkah and Purim are later additions and don't cluster like the others or have anything to do with harvests.

Well, they're organized the way they are because that's the way God commanded in the Bible. Passover celebrates God freeing the Jews from slavery in Egypt and Unleavened Bread is a sort of continuation of Passover for the next several days. Firstfruits is a celebration of the very first harvest of the year, and Shavuot is the next harvest. Then you don't havest anything all through the summer; you just work in the fields. Then in the fall you have Rosh Hashannah which is the new year and the day you blow the shofar (ram's horn) 100 times. All of those are big parties. Yom Kippur is very solemn; it's a day for repentance and fasting. Then Sukkot is the last harves of the year and another big party for 8 days.

And I celebrate them because I think it's the right thing to do. I can go into more detail if you want.

Oh, that? Well, the Bible says they are the feasts of the Lord and so I think it's good for anyone who wants to please God to celebrate His feasts. And once you learn about them they are so much FUN! Yes, even Yom Kippur with no food or water for 25 hours -- it just makes the meal breaking the fast that much more of a joy. Somebody has an old saying that hunger is the best sauce. Well, fasting sure makes food taste good.
