Leslie (chibilee02) Thank you Lisa. Yes, lucky for me I like me some sagas. Lol

message 1903: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (chibilee02) Finally finished Nora Webster, which was a disappointment for me and I can finally get to start Orange Is the New Black by Piper Kerman (love the show).

Eli (elimariel21) | 30 comments I am currently reading the Jane Yellowrock series. Blood Cross & Kare Kano: His and Her Circumstances, Vol. 1 I am doing a little bit of reading and manga. Is it weird reading two or three different stories at the same time?
I'm not the only one right? Sometimes i feel like I'm cheating >__>

Gosh! Another series I've been meaning to get to. I even bought the first couple on audio, when they went on sale. Alas, I haven't gotten to them yet.

I haven't read any manga, but I have a couple I plan on checking out from the library.

Oh, that's cool. What was the presentation about Lisa?

message 1916: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Leslie wrote: "Oh, that's cool. What was the presentation about Lisa?"

Well, it was for a Community Health Nursing class. We looked at the foster care system aspect; alcoholism; how a family copes when one family member is in prison; violence; suicide; etc. We (it was a team project) also had to compare the book to the movie.

message 1918: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments I've only read one of those: Cold Mountain. You enjoying them, Michelle T?

message 1919: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 648 comments I love the Cold Mountain movie, seen it a bunch of times. How is/was the book?

message 1920: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments The book was good. We listened to the audio. I liked it, my husband didn't.

Yea I can see why the book would be used for a presentation of that sort. How did the book and movie compare? I haven't seen the movie so I'm just curious.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Leslie wrote: " How did the book and movie compare?"

It has been so long that I can't really remember, other than the book was better, of course. But Michelle Pfeiffer was awesome in a different role for her (she played the mom).

I've been slowly rereading the entire series but when a new book comes out I just have to skip ahead to it!

I like it a lot... it can get a little slow, but if you saw the movie, you have the hope every time you turn the page.

I cried and cried though that book, Leslie. Especially the first chapter.

message 1940: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Looks good, Michelle T. I've thought of reading Whiskey Beach by Nora Roberts . Let me know what you think, if you remember to get back to this thread.

message 1941: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (chibilee02) Yea, it was hard reading that first chapter Lisa. I kinda wanted to get through it quickly.

message 1942: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments I remember my mother had just died. Like, the week before? And a good friend told me I just had to read that book. So... I did. I told her later, "WTH were you thinking to give me that book at that time in my life?"

message 1943: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (chibilee02) Oh my gosh. That's horrible. I don't know her but she must have been ignorant of the situation or just didn't know any better.

message 1944: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments No, she knew. We just always discussed great books and she recommended that one. She didn't apologize, either. She thought a great book was a great book.

message 1945: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (chibilee02) Yes a great book is a great book, but timing also matters. If I'm in a crappy mood, I wouldn't be able to really focus on a book regardless of how good it is.
