Barbara Just finished =Winter at Mustang Ridge. Not bad. It's a lighter read, a good break if you've been reading a ton of intense emotional drama. Looking forward to starting an Elizabeth Boyle book that's been sitting on my nightstand for a few months. And The Miss Ran Away With The Rake

Sonya Heaney I've not even read a sentence of Gone with the Wind - I guess because I'm not American. One day I should pick it up... It's probably something I'd enjoy... The movie is on television here every so often, and I'm always startled by how long it is!

I've had a horrible week (I'm Ukrainian, and know people who have been shot at in the centre of Ukraine), so I picked up a fluffy Highlander romance today: Her Highness and the Highlander (The Princess Brides, #2) by Tracy Anne Warren

Not bad, but the hero and the princess heroine shared a bed a few hours after they met. In Regency Britain...

Stories & Verse (storiesverse) | 256 comments I am reading Fifty Shades of Grey for the second time. I was inspired to re-read after reading If I Were You, which could be considered a retelling of "50 Shades".

Originally I actually listened to "50 Shades" through Audible. Though the Audible voiceover was fine, I think it would be interesting to see if my view of the story is the same after reading vs listening.

I purchased an e-book copy, marked down from $9.99 to $4.99 on Kobo books.

I have already reviewed this book and gave it 3 stars. The review was actually based on the entire 3 books in the series.

If I were to rate the 1st book "50 Shades of Grey" as a stand alone book I would probably give it 4 stars as, the other two books started to get boring and predictable.

Though at the same time, I continued through the series because I wanted to know how it ended.

Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) by E.L. James

message 1815: by Sonya (new)

Sonya Heaney Thanks. I just stayed up until 7:30am watching the live video feed of the action in the main square. I'm going to very tentatively say things might be improving. The president fled the country. Opposition politicians imprisoned on false charges have been released. Hundreds of thousands of people have taken to the streets to face off with the few remaining military police...

Phew. It took a lot of deaths (and I saw too many of them live on TV), but maybe, just maybe it's ending now...

Michelle T. wrote: "Sonya, sorry to hear what's going on in Ukraine. I'm from Venezuela, and the situation over there is not very good either..."

Thanks. I was actually reading up on the situation in Venezuela a few hours ago. And Thailand. So many countries where crazy things are happening at the moment... :( I don't think the world news even has the energy to cover them and do them justice!

Lisa Kay wrote: "Really. Stay safe, Sonya."

Thanks! I have cousins who have played a big part in the revolution. The bravest thing I have done is donate money for medical costs. In Ukraine it's terrible - if you need an injection, you have to buy your own syringe! On the 20th alone, over 100 were killed, and over 500 others were shot by snipers. That's a lot of money they need...

message 1818: by Sonya (new)

Sonya Heaney ANYWAY, I'm sorry that I ruined this thread! I've been trying to read some happier books this past week. But I'm in a slump. I've started nearly a dozen books and have only finished a couple of them.

I'm actually thinking of rereading Cindy Gerard's Bodyguards series, starting with this one: To the Edge (The Bodyguards, #1) by Cindy Gerard

Hi,Kvkeith, I have never read Knight, But i have added it to my to read list. thank you for the suggestion... though I am not sure about the "...Knight tries to leave Anya to the life she deserves of white picket fences and a man who watches football on Sundays – good, normal and clean." part of the synopsis, it does seem interesting.

Stories & Verse (storiesverse) | 256 comments I finished reading Fifty Shades of Grey for the 2nd time.

I changed my rating from a 3 to a 2 because the inner goddess comments made me queasy.

Also I found my connection to Anastaisa and Christian withered... When I read the first time Ana and Christian were my idols, in the second reading I became... I don't want to say jealous, but I think I became used to their characters and the magic disapated.

Overall, the storyline should be a 5 star rating and I can understand the hype surrounding the book, but because I couldn't connect with main characters I gave 50 Shades 2.5 stars.

Despite this low rating I think it is a book worth reading.

I am also concerned that this book is being made into a movie... there are a lot of BDSM scenes... Simliar to twilight... the fantasy always withers after the movie comes out

I love Fifty Shades of Grey, no matter how many times I read it. The first time it was kind of weird, the only type of books that I used to read with content like that were the romantic ones, so if I tell you the truth, this books were a different story and adventure for me...

I like the storyline, that's why I read it twice, its just the inner goddess comments started to sound almost comical which I thought took away from the mood of the story... I am not good at comedic romance... The movie is supposed to be coming out Feb 13th 2015, I am not sure i want to see it but maybe the movie will be better since there might not be any inner goddess comments

She is one of the absolute best. I tend to measure other authors in this genre against her (and Cindy Gerard!). Kaylea Cross does SO much research. She visits military bases and things and asks a gazillion questions. It shows in her books.

I'm not a fan of the book (in particular, I have issues with the ethics of publishing fan fiction and refusing to even give credit to the source).

However I wouldn't get too excited about the movie. I actually read a few discussions about it the other day and erm... Yeah. It looks and sounds pretty terrible!

The lead actress from the 1995 Pride and Prejudice is playing the mother in 50 Shades, and I swear I'm never going to be able to watch P&P again!

Stories & Verse (storiesverse) | 256 comments I am currently reading Being Me; book two of the Inside out Series byLisa Renee Jones.

This series is fan fiction for Fifty Shades of Grey. I must say it is a very engaging series.... It is more suspensful than Fifty Shades and there are a lot of dark sercrets revealed.

I am also reading the novellas that accompany the seires; Rebecca's Lost Journals

At first I vowed I was not going to read the novellas, but there are so many unanswered questions, I had to give in and read them.

I am also participating in the Inside Out by Lisa Renee Jones Read Along discussion group (https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/......

I am really enjoying this series. Books 4 and 5 are yet to be published in September and November of this year.

Thanks, I will think about that before seeing the movie. I would probably wait until it is out on DVD rather than seeing it in the theatre anyway.

It's nearly a year before it's released, anyway. I think they might be waiting too long and are going to lose the hype that was carrying the project.

Yep, I agree Sonya. I think it will passé by the time it hits the screens but probably will do well in DVD sales because we'll all be just a little bit curious...

It’s in the ‘This and That’ section – shouldn’t it be higher up in one of the book sections? At the moment it’s below things like recipes and self-promotion… :/

I had nothing to do with the Twilight craze, but it seemed those movies were cranked out faster. They knew their teen audience would grow up and out of the books pretty fast, I guess.
