jenjn79 | 564 comments I've been working on Nora Roberts profile, trying to get the endless pile of foreign editions combined with their English counterparts. And I've come up with a bit of a minor issue that I'm not sure how to work with.

Roberts also writes books the "In Death" series under the name J.D. Robb. The issue I've come across is that when these books were published in other languages (or maybe just French) they are under Nora Roberts, not Robb. The covers show Nora Roberts as do the GR entries.

Which, A-makes them not combinable with their original editions and completely disassociates them with those books and the Robb name, and B-adds a pile of books to the Roberts combine page that is already very lengthy and slow to load.

What's the best way to handle these? I'm inclined to change them to list J.D. Robb in Author 1, and Nora Roberts in Author 2...but I can see that might cause confusion to the readers of those books since they read them as Nora Roberts.

Suggestions?

Lasairfiona | 38 comments I would keep all of the "In Death" series together under one author even if the image shows that it is by Nora Roberts. I would not put Nora Roberts in the second author line as you would be able to combine them (right? You can only combine those whose first author is the same?). I would put an note in the description saying that this is a pseudonym but I think it is more important to have the books together than to have the right author as the two authors are the same anyway.

Man, we really need that pseudonym thing up and fixed.

jenjn79 | 564 comments Good point on the 2nd author and combining. I forgot about that. I will have to check to see how all the other Robb books are listed.

EDIT: it's a toss-up...some of the Robb books have both names, and some just JD Robb.

The aka feature will be nice, but as Michael mentioned recently, it's definitely not an easy thing to set up.

Meanwhile, I think listing J.D. Robb as author #1 (and thus allowing the foreign editions to be combined with their English counterparts) and Nora Roberts on the second author line to aid in searching seems like the best compromise.

(J.D. Robb already has a note regarding that "author"'s identity.)

jenjn79 | 564 comments Works for me :) I'll work on that tomorrow. I think if I do anymore editing today, my brain will explode.

Which would be sad! And messy.

So don't do that.

jenjn79 | 564 comments It's those titles to foreign editions...kudos to Nora Roberts for her popularity, but having a lot of her books translated into several languages each sucks for combining.
