Well, I need at least a week. I am moderating a Halloween discussion of The Woman in Black: A Ghost Story starting Saturday. Or, you can start without me, because I can always "discuss and dip" into Persuasion.

We tried to get to Lime Regis as I REALLY wanted to go after reading Remarkable Creatures but we stayed part of the time in Gloucester - which I wouldn't recommend other then a cute store dedicated to Beatrix Potter called the Tailor Of Gloucester. - Kathy - I will give you details soon!

I want to walk on the Cob.

It's a great idea, and I will bump it to the almost top of my queue. Any excuse to read Persuasion.

Walking on the Cob is up there with my best memories. I had to pinch myself. We stayed in a B&B which used to be the Lyme Regis post office. It still has the original letter box in the external wall. Legend has it that Jane Austen posted letters to her sister from that post office when she was staying in LR.

That's so cool Kim! It sounds like a great trip. Wouldn't it be fun to have comfy reader trips to our favorite literary locations???

Kim, I'd love to hear all about your trip, too. Maybe we should start a literary trips thread?

Yes!!!!!!!!!!! My granddaughter and I were doing a question card game. One of the questions was where you would like to go, or something to that effect. She wasn't surprised that I answered, "on a trip to all my favorite literary places of book settings and author habitats."

message 4715: by [deleted user] (new)

Can we start a buddy-reads thread here on Comfort Reads, Lee?

message 4716: by Lee, Mod Mama (new)

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
Of course we can start a buddy reads thread. I think that's an awesome idea! Then anyone looking for company while reading a specific book can team up and read together. Go for it!

Lee (leekat) | 3959 comments Mod
And Kathy, I think it's also a wonderful idea to start a literary trips thread. Go ahead and do it or I'll do it when I get back from my appointment in a few hours. I have to run out the door shortly.

Great! I'll see how the "To Kill a Mockingbird" thread was set up, and/or the HP thread, and do one for Persuasion. Thanks, Lee!

I'm going to lunch with the girl, so I'll set it up later.

And last night I finally started a good if somewhat creepy book called Awakening by S.J. Bolton. If you don't like snakes, don't read this one!

Kathy, Yes! I love S.J. Bolton too! And you are the one that turned me on to her - Thank you!

All of the snake information is quite fascinating in this one. I wasn't sure I would like it but she writes quite compelling characters too.

Darkpool | 222 comments What am I not reading...? Finished the Hunger Games trilogy - so good!! - and so pleased I could read them in a single sweep.
Now onto The Spellman Files (The Spellmans, #1) by Lisa Lutz (audiobook) If I Never Get Back by Darryl Brock and Home Improvement Undead Edition by Charlaine Harris .
And just started Persuasion out of my Austen Omnibus - this one: The Complete Novels of Jane Austen by Jane Austen . Still not quite sure how I'm going to pop that into dear old GRs system.

message 4734: by [deleted user] (new)

I am reading Persuasion, too, from an omnibus volume. I haven't attempted to catalog it; I just picked a random version of the book to review. I am really looking forward to this read.

Christine: Come read Persuasion with us!

Lauren (bookworm1987) Lee wrote: "Lauren, I notice you just whip through books like butter!"

yup I'm a fast reader - but not too fast that I don't relax to enjoy them. My dad teases me that I skip every other page..(which I don't) I'm currently reading 2 books right now.. still reading
Heist Society which so far is interesting and I'm also reading Thirteen Reasons Why :)

message 4736: by [deleted user] (new)

I always ask my daughter "if she reads all the words?" because she can whip through a book, too. I'm a slowish reader.

Manybooks Jeannette wrote: "I always ask my daughter "if she reads all the words?" because she can whip through a book, too. I'm a slowish reader."

I am also a slow reader, but I think we should not call it slow reading, but concentrated reading (I tend to want to and need to understand everything, sigh). I also have the tendency to go off on mental tangents when I read, and if I find an interesting bit of trivia, historical information etc., my curiosity often gets the better of me and I start to do research (it slows me down, but that's the way I am and that's the way I read).

message 4738: by [deleted user] (new)

You are an engaged reader, Gundula!

I like that - "concentrated reading"!

message 4740: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie I just finished an absolutely fabulous book: Mosaic: A Chronicle of Five Generations. This must be read by anyone who thinks they might be interested in following one Jewish Polish family's life through the 1900s. The author begins her search into the lives of her Jewish paternal grandparents. They had eleven children...... So there are lots of people. Don't be discouraged, You will come to truly know these people. They will feel ike family to you. Some you will like, some less so, but for all of them you will feel understanding. You learn about the holocaust through one family. You learn about what it is to be Jewish, to feel part of a larger family of people, the Jewish people. It is an amazing book so it gets five stars. Here is my spoiler free review, which provides excerpts: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/....

So now I will start The Printmaker's Daughter: A Novel. Fun! Do you love Hokusai's prints? This is historical fiction about him and his daugther. His prints of Mt. Fuji in Japan are famous and utterly stunning. He had a philosophical message too. I have received this from NetGalley. If I am pleased I will read other books by this author. She has written another about Audubon's painting expeditions in Canada: Creation.

I'm almost done with The Year of Fog The Year of Fog by Michelle Richmond and I am dying to know how this will end!

Chrissie, I second that, book covers are sometimes a real pain to read and figure out (and I like text much better than pictorial book covers anyhow, in fact, I need text).

message 4744: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Gundula, :0)

I hate to tell you this Gundula, but you simply MUST add another book to your TBR mountain. I am not kidding about this one. You must read Mosaic: A Chronicle of Five Generations. You must, you must, you must!!!!! I know it covers a difficult subject. I know it is long. BUT there cause for hope in this book too! There are events at the end that will really make you feel happy, and yes there are events that will sadden too.
