Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments I am reading Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and I am really enjoying it. I've had it for a while and decided to pick it up and read a few pages, which turned into a hundred pages, which turned into me reading the book. LOL! Seth Grahame-Smith has a great talent for mixing actual historical events with the absurd and making it a wonderfully quirky read.

Maude | 479 comments I am reading The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. And then Chrissie, I am going to read The White Woman on the Green Bicycle, which I just bought last night and am looking forward to it.

Chrissie Maude, not everybody agree with my views on this book...... Toni gave it three stars and Victoria didn't sound so exuberant.

I can only say how it struck me.

You can tell me if I should really read The Forgotten Garden.

Chrissie Maude, but do you think I will like it. You know I do not have normal tastes...... Most mysteries do not work for me. Have you read the other title by this author? Is this the best?

message 3809: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments Chrissie, I am still reading it but should be done later today. I do have an opinion and comments but will wait until I am finished and get back to you asap. I don't want to say anything now because sometimes an ending of a book will change one's mind or make a significant difference in one's view.

message 3810: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm curious to see your review, too, Maude. I thought the book was okay, but not more.

message 3811: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Well Maude, I am quite sceptical about it fitting me! I am not in any way judging the book.

message 3812: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly I'm reading Lover Awakened (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #3) by J.R. Ward The Shop on Blossom Street (Blossom Street, #1) by Debbie Macomber Temptation Ridge (Virgin River, #6) by Robyn Carr

Manybooks I just read a most wonderful picture book (more for adults than for children I would say) about what it means to be Métis, The Secret of Your Name. Outstanding, it had me in tears more than once.

message 3814: by John (new)

John Just finished Dewey The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron which easily qualifies as a comfort read. Now on to something grittier Snow Mountain Passage A Novel by James D. Houston , the story of the Donner Party in 1846.

Beth (mommyto4bees) Im just starting Between Friends by Debbie Macomber! yay! Between Friends by Debbie Macomber

message 3818: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments Chrissie and Jeannette, I will get my review done tomorrow. I have been ferrying my daughter-in-law around all day. First to get her car which was supposed to be fixed, then again after she drove it to work when, again it acted up, have to pick up two kids an hour apart at two different schools, the man who is going to power wash/paint my house is due here any moment and while I might have the time to do it today, I don't have the ambition!

I'm ashamed to say that I have never read her writing. I watched Out of Africa and Babette's feast (which I loved), so I thought I should remedy that situation.

I've read bits and pieces of Out of Africa but always end up setting it down for something else but I love how she writes. I have to finish that one and her other book Ehrengard one of these days. Let me know what you think of the one you have :)

message 3829: by Chrissie (last edited May 24, 2011 10:06PM) (new)

Chrissie Now you guys are sleeping and I am up...... I always miss the party.

Gundula, so, soon you will be reading Babette's Feast!!! Jeanette, you will too soon. Hopefully! I really am thinking of reading Out of Africa again. I remember nothing. That doesn't mean the book is bad, it means I have a leaky head.

Maude - NO RUSH. You are going to wear yourself to pieces. So what color will your house be painted?! Exciting and nice. Sort of - at least once it is completed!

I have an ancien paperback . I checked for a Kindle book! NOPE. I have requested to be told when it arrives. I do not have high hopes. Newer books are easier to get for the Kindle, particularly the big sellers. And you know. this thing with lending - that is pure garbage. Practically no books are lendable. The prices have to go down. Amazon sold more Kindles than they did of hardcovers and paperbacks combined! Maybe the prices will go down. Practically all the new Kindle books cost USD 13.79. I bet your prices are less for the same book. Right? Could one of you guys to how much The Free World costs on Kindle. I had to pay USD 13.79. I am just curious how much more Europeans are paying for the same book compared to Americans.... And I do NOT recommend buying that book. Only two stars.

message 3830: by [deleted user] (new)

Chrissie,
It's 12.99 on Kindle right now. It seems like more and more books are 12.99. It used to be unusual to find anything over 9.99.

message 3831: by [deleted user] (new)

I was browsing the other day at the Kindle book prices, and was shocked at how expensive they were.

I've started The Memory of Love and am loving it.

message 3832: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Thanks Christine! Hmmpf, Europeans must pay 80 cents more for a typical new ebook! The prices are not that different.

message 3833: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) I've heard it's horrible but I want to finish the story so later today I'm going to start The Land of Painted Caves. And who knows, I may like it; I sometimes like "bad" books.

I watched the film last night, so I will read "Babette's Feast" today sometime (I think I will also read the other stories included, but I will read Babette's Feast first). I think I also want to read Out of Africa (I watched the movie years ago in the theatre and I really liked it, but I've never read the book). I've actually already read the first two pages of Babette's Feast and one thing that strikes me as odd and interesting is that Phillipa and Martine's mother is never mentioned at all (I guess she might have died in childbirth, but it is strange that there is not mention of her whatsoever; in a way, Martine and Philippa seem almost as being not only the Dean's daughters, but also his partners, like in a marriage).

Chrissie Gundula, I felt the relationship between the Dean and his two daughters reflected simply there having lived so closely together for so long. Hmmm. try and write something as soon as you are done. No computer soon.

message 3837: by Kimberly (new)

I will write a review as soon as I am done. How long will you be without a computer? Are you going on holidays or is your computer acting up? And I don't think there was anything inappropriate about the Dean and his daughters, although the fact that the girls' mother is never mentioned is a bit odd (for me).

Kat I just started reading eye of the god by Ariel Allison and enjoying it.

message 3844: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly I'm really enjoying Graceling by Kristin Cashore I'm not much for YA the last few years but this one is turning out to be surprisingly good.

message 3845: by [deleted user] (new)

I enjoyed Graceling, too. It's quite different from the standard YA fantasy.

message 3846: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly I like it. It reminds me of Eragon in a way with the story telling.

message 3847: by [deleted user] (new)

I never made it all the way through Eragon, but my daughter enjoyed it.

I really like Katsa and Po, and was rooting for both of them. Totally nasty bad guy in this one -- the only thing about the book I didn't care for. But, no spoilers!! :)
