Very funny. Oh, and bless your heart. (haha)

Perfect for you Christine!

message 2104: by [deleted user] (new)

I hope it's good for a laugh, Lee. I HAD to get it based on the title though, haha!

Of course you did! I had no idea doggie blogging was so popular.

message 2106: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't either....I thought Dixie was an original.

Chrissie Jeanette, the book is worth the wait.

Lisa, everyone has to find a system that works for themselves. For me, I ADORE the choice one has when you choose your next book to read!

Chrissie, I like that too. And, I can still do it. Except for my real world book club, which I started, and one GR private group, where I actually am not participating that much, I don't feel obligated to read all the group books.

As long as you are happy with the arrangement!

Well, as I said, I do want to make some changes, giving up some of my groups or reducing my participation. I'm in the process of figuring out the specifics.

I requested it yesterday, so I hope to hear in a few days.

Chrissie Jeanette, I am pretty darn sure you will like it. I am wondering if my experiences of being in Japan improved the book.... I don't think so. I think anyone curious about Japan would love it.

message 2114: by [deleted user] (new)

I've been reading The Hunger Games all evening. I am glad that I ordered the other two already!

message 2115: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Christine wrote: "I've been reading The Hunger Games all evening. I am glad that I ordered the other two already!"

Reading them all at once is the way to go. the wait between 1 & 2 was so hard, and 2 has quite the cliffhanger so that wait was no fun either. Enjoy!

message 2116: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Having finished No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II, which I absolutely, postively adored, I am currently reading The Lovers of Algeria: A Novel. It is historical fiction about the Algerian colonial and civil war. Supposedly a very gruesome depiction concerning Arab and French fighting. It is perhaps sometimes melodramatic, but still Kirkus says it has a solid base making it worth reading. I have just started, and the beginning is a bit confusing.

I finished about half of the book last night, but should hopefully have the other two by tomorrow or Friday. I was wondering if it was a good idea to read the entire series at once. Thanks, Lisa.

I was eyeballing that one... sounds too creepy for words!

message 2120: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Mary and Hayes, yeah who isn't eyeballing that one. That is all everyone is talking about. Me, I still haven't decided.

message 2121: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't decided either... I dont like creepy reads. I'm too impressionable.

message 2122: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Hayes, And what do you really end up learning? I am guessing it is more a confirmation of what you perhaps knew before, but beautifully expressed in the book. I don't know...... I will have to ponder this awhile!

message 2123: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments I am rereading an old favorite which I haven't read in at least 20 years, The Keys of the Kingdom by A. J. Cronin. Room does not look good to me esp. after reading the ending. SPOILER ALERT: And then to go back to the "ROOM" at the end - Puleeze, get a life!

message 2124: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading Love in a Cold Climate, my first Mitford book.

message 2125: by [deleted user] (new)

Me too! my first Mitford, though I'm starting with The Pursuit of Love.

Hayes, I don't like creepy reads either. What a great way to describe yourself, as impressionable. I still haven't gotten over reading The Amityville Horror from a bazillion years ago.

*shuddering*
I can't read or watch horror. I saw the movie the Excorcist when I was 13 and it destroyed me for life.

message 2131: by [deleted user] (new)

I must be the only person in the world who hasn't seen the exorcist... I just refused. I couldn't even deal with Interview with a Vampire. *shudder*

message 2132: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 286 comments You certainly picked some classic creepy movies/books no wonder ya got "destroyed."

Shelley wrote: "Me too! my first Mitford, though I'm starting with The Pursuit of Love."

I'm in a group that will be discussing The Pursuit of Love mid-October, so I thought I would start with Cold Climate first. I did read the first chapter of Pursuit and it sounded pretty funny. I usually enjoy those oddball family stories.

Are the any sadistic psychopaths in this book? It sounds like just the thing to put Christine under the bed again! :P

Don't EVER watch it Hayes. I was blissfully unaware when it started. I don't know what my parents were thinking, it was a video/beta rental.

Brenda, I don't know why I chose to read that Amityville horror book as a teen. Maybe I thought a book couldn't scare me like a movie. I was obviously wrong :-)

When was Christine under the bed? I must be missing something.

message 2138: by [deleted user] (new)

I went to see the Exorcist in the theater and took my 16 yr. old sister, because she had to be with an adult to get in (I was 18). I really did not want to go, but she did. She freaked out in the first 5 minutes and we had to leave.

I used to enjoy horror movies (not slasher stuff) -- I still remember watching Night of the Living Dead!! *yikes* I could do that stuff when I was a youngster, but now I don't enjoy it very much. Anything intense sends my blood pressure up!

message 2141: by Maude (new)

Maude | 479 comments I never go to horror movies. I went once with my son to see "Chuckie" (I'm not sure that was the name of the movie. I was the first one to scream. Now, I avoid scary movies.
