Glad you found an interesting book, Christine!

I just started Autumn Bridge, a very interesting work of historical fiction.

Darkpool | 222 comments Just started The Fourth Bear audiobook. I love Jasper fforde's wacky sense of humour. It'll be interesting to see how well his highly language based wit translates to the audio format. So far so good.

message 1803: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicasey) I haven't decided which book I'm starting on yet. I have 2, but I just finished a book last night, and not sure which I want to jump into next.

I loved that book.

I have that one still to read, but I think I pre-ordered it way back when. (I guess I had to have it immediately so that it could sit on my shelf, haha)

I love Jasper Fforde. I even got to meet him once - he signed my copy of The Big Over Easy.

Finished off The Wake by Neil Gaiman which was okay but not enough to make me read the rest of the series so I abandoned The Sandman: Endless Nights. Also read through Chosen by P.C. Cast, which I really enjoyed. Still making my slower way through a few others: The Tale of Applebeck Orchard; True to the Trefoil; Ooty Preserved: Victorian Hill Station in India and Set in Stone which is seriously sexy. I've also started on The Will of the Empress. I love Tamora Pierce!

I loved The Big Over Easy and keep meaning to get to The Fourth Bear. Let me know how you like it, Darkpool.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Lee, I too loved People of the Book. I'm still stuck in the M.C. Beaton series featuring Agatha Raisin. One rather leads right into the next, and I can't seem to stop wanting to go on with them. At first I wasn't crazy about her, but she has really grown on me.

Kathy, I know what you mean about those series books! I'm in the middle of a few but I force myself to mix it up so I don't get sick of them. I'm quite hooked on the Nevada Barr books.

message 1811: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments OK, Lee, I'm not even going to look at the Nevada Barr books. I've glanced their way in the bookstore, but I am determined not to find another series I like right now. I'm desperately trying to take a break from the ones I'm reading now. Of course, Mockingjay comes out tomorrow, so I know I will be able to break for it.

message 1812: by Mary (new)

Mary | 245 comments I finished The Art of Devotion which was very good - four stars. I am now reading Bright Lights, Big Ass (sorry but I can't get that link to work). It is my first Jen Lancaster book and so far it's very funny.

Silencio | 3 comments I'm reading The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath but so far it seems like it's a depressing book...

It is depressing but I love it, and when I was 19 it was sort of a comfort read, even though I got writer's block from reading it. Eek!!!

I started Try to Remember Try to Remember by Iris Gomez last night.

I like the cover.

message 1817: by [deleted user] (new)

The actual cover is really cool because you can see these newspaper adds in the background (which are part of the story, of course).

I've just added this one to my TBR list.

message 1819: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Mockingjay!!! I started at about 10 (got the book from the store a few minutes after 9) and I'm on page 100 = 1/4 of the book. I left a LOT of time today and tomorrow to read so that I can finish it. Then, I'll go back and finish The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements, and get to more books in my current piles.

message 1820: by [deleted user] (new)

Lisa, you are a lucky girl!

message 1822: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Thanks, Jeannette. Lee, Yes, lucky, lucky me!

message 1823: by [deleted user] (new)

You guys enjoy Mockingjay! :) Will eventually read that trilogy. Book peeps on twitter are going nuts about it atm.

Recently read through The Will of the Empress which I absolutely adored. I want more Pierce! Also read: Jake's Tower; Shopaholic and Sister and Shopaholic and Baby.

Currently reading Stray which I'm really enjoying. I've already read some others in the same series. Also reading The Ladies' Loos: From Plumbing to Plucking, a Practical Guide for Girls, which was written by a bunch of women from an online community I belong to. It's very readable because it's all in brief bits.

Still making my slower way through a few others: The Tale of Applebeck Orchard; True to the Trefoil; Ooty Preserved: A Victorian Hill Station in India and Set in Stone.

message 1824: by [deleted user] (new)

Have fun, Jo! A new book in a series is always exciting!

message 1825: by [deleted user] (new)

You always wish there will be one more. Is this the last book? I haven't read these yet, but they are on my tbr list.

message 1826: by [deleted user] (new)

Everyone raves about them! I have people recommend them to me all the time. You should get back to reading! Or, are you at work right now? ;)

message 1827: by [deleted user] (new)

naughty, naughty! Have fun! :)

I'm reading Three Bags Full, a little palate cleanser after my historical fiction.

Ooh, I listened to that on audiobook a year or so back. Really enjoyed it.

message 1832: by [deleted user] (new)

Chrissie recommended it under a different thread. I bet it was fun to listen to. :)

message 1833: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) I finished Mockingjay. Yay! Had it for about 27 hours. Had to take breaks at times; it was so intense.

Delaying finishing reading The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements and reading How to Buy a Love of Reading and a bunch of group reads becuase I have a library book likely not renewable, due in 6 days, so I'm going to start it later today: Winter's Mischief

Did you take the whole day off to read the book, Lisa? It must really be a good story!

LOL! I think I do need to consult Christine as to what measures to take.

message 1836: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Jeannette, I read Mockingjay much of yesterday and finished it this morning, yes. I did take breaks. If I'd read without interruption, I could have read the whole book yesterday. And, I'm a very slow reader.

message 1837: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished Stray. Loved it :)

I need to do that, too! :)

message 1840: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) I'm thinking I'll see both movies and then reread 1-7 all at once after the movies. I love the movies (though I wasn't that fond of 6; they left out too, too much) but I adore the books.
