This happens to so many authors, especially mystery series, at least in my experience.

message 804: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie I am currently reading Ali and Nino: A Love Story.

message 805: by Yolanda (new)

Yolanda The Wives of Henry Oades by Johanna Moran I just sarted this one looks to be a good read.

message 806: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (decorcats) | 11 comments i have just started timothy findlay 'famous last words' and it seems good so far.

message 807: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh nononono....we must not clump Harlan Coben in with the likes of Mr. Patterson. Ah!

message 808: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (decorcats) | 11 comments but his print is getting bigger and the characters really stereotypical now. just too predictable. Myron needs to grow up.

I thought only school kids made the print bigger to make a paper seem longer! lol

I had mixed feelings on this one, Yolanda. Let me know what you think afterwards.

I'm going to cover my ears and go "lalalalala, I can't hear this". I love Harlan, he's going to be my next husband. Maybe the big print is a cry for help...maybe he needs glasses, the poor dude.

message 812: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm in a weird mood today. I have 243 books on my tbr pile and don't feel like reading anything. I picked about 6 from the list and my library has 3 of the 6; two of the 3 are checked out. bleh

message 813: by [deleted user] (new)

I hear you, Jeannette, I've been like that myself. Take a little break. Hey, here's an idea...spend some extra time online chatting with us! :D

message 814: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) I've been reading some really disturbing books, so I think later today I'll start Betsy Was a Junior. I'm trying to read all of Maud Hart Lovelace's books. Of course, I've been warned this one might be somewhat depressing/upsetting/I'm not sure what, but not all gentle & light & fun. These Betsy-Tacy books do tend to be comfort reads for me though.

Christine wrote: "I hear you, Jeannette, I've been like that myself. Take a little break. Hey, here's an idea...spend some extra time online chatting with us! :D"

Okay! I'll think of something stupid to say on the chat thread. And, I'll start Sense and Sensibility for my book group.

message 816: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading Ansel Adams in Color, the only published collection of his color prints.

message 817: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeannette wrote: "I'm reading Ansel Adams in Color, the only published collection of his color prints."

Ooooh....I should get that for my sister. She is a professional artist, and she loves Ansel Adams.

message 818: by [deleted user] (new)

It is a great book. She will be surprised by the photos in this collection! :)

message 819: by [deleted user] (new)

I found it, and I'm ordering it to save for Christmas (Oh my, does that mean I have started Christmas shopping in May? Haha!)

Christine wrote: "I found it, and I'm ordering it to save for Christmas (Oh my, does that mean I have started Christmas shopping in May? Haha!)"

Good for you! I always start early and put things in storage. I have to have my shopping done by Thanksgiving every year anyway! I will be looking for gifts in Norway this year. :)

message 821: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeannette wrote:...I will be looking for gifts in Norway this year"

Oh goodie, do you need my sizes? :)

message 822: by [deleted user] (new)

sizes, plural?? :)

message 823: by [deleted user] (new)

p.s. We better get back to the chat thread! Here is another of my favorite Ansel Adams books:

Ansel Adams: An Autobiography

message 824: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I'm reading "Love, Ellen: A Mother/Daughter Journey" by Betty DeGeneres.

message 825: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks Jeannette wrote: "sizes, plural?? :)"

Why not, I often buy the same article of clothing in different sizes, like medium when I feel skinny, and large for the days I feel less than skinny and/or not in the mood for tighter fitting clothing. And, this works for me.

Deborah (decorcats) | 11 comments well i don't know what it is like where you are, but over here in south west france, it is horribly cold and have got woodburner going in kitchen and am huddled around it reading a book with the cats.

That's kinda what it's been like all spring here in central Italy, Deborah. I could use a few cats, but the husband is not a cat person.

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Christine, have you read Coben's newest, CAUGHT? I am eagerly waiting for my turn to come up at the library. I am about to start GIRL WITH DRAGON TATTOO but if I get CAUGHT while I'm reading this, not sure which one I'll put aside.

message 830: by [deleted user] (new)

Dragon Tattoo is great, Mona. It's huge, but I breezed right through it.

message 831: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments I've heard that it's slow going in the beginning of DRAGON TATTOO?

Yes, I bought it as soon as it came out. I have read all of his books and tend to stalk the bookstore waiting for another one. Have you read many of his?

message 833: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawn9655) Just got the most recent Sookie Stackhouse book by Charlaine Harris, "Dead in the Family". Came in yesterday's mail and I'm halfway through it now.

message 834: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Actually, so far. I've read only one, THE INNOCENT, that I picked up in paperback at GOODWILL for $.50. Before that, I had heard of him but had never read anything. But I enjoyed this one so much, I'm hooked.

His book, TELL NO ONE, was made into a FRENCH movie. Do you subscribe to his email newsletter?

While I'm mentioning websites, FILMCRAVE is a social networking site for movie-lovers.

message 835: by [deleted user] (new)

The Innocent was my first Coben too! His series is great as well as his stand alones.

message 836: by [deleted user] (new)

Mona wrote: "I've heard that it's slow going in the beginning of DRAGON TATTOO?"

I didn't think so. I heard that about the second one, where there's a lot of number crunching and economics at the beginning.

message 837: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments That's really a coincidence that we were both introduced to Coben via the same title. I'm really looking forward to reading his others.

I took a peek at the beginning pages of Dragon Tatoo and it doesn't look too bad.

When I read my first one by Greg Iles, SLEEP NO MORE, there was a lot of jargon about oil drilling and I was getting really discouraged and was going to put it down. But I stuck it out and really enjoyed it. Some of his others are on my list now. TRUE EVIL & 3RD DEGREE look good.

message 838: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments I just checked my library site and a lot of good stuff has just come in for me to pick up. I was just there yesterday and I wish it was there then :(.

CAUGHT(Harlan Coben's newest) --guess Dragon Tattoo will have to wait or maybe I'll read both at the same time and see which is more compelling.

IT'S COMPLICATED(DVD)
PRECIOUS(DVD)
LAW ABIDING CITIZEN(DVD)

Got some good BOLLYWOOD flicks on hubby's card to pick up too.

CAN'T WAIT for my next trip but I have lots of stuff at home that I haven't finished.

What do you think so far, Dawn? I read it last week and thought it was very entertaining, liked all the family info.

Hayes, wait until you get to The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest, talk about huge. I'm a little over halfway through and loving it as much as I did the first two!

Mona, I love the Steig Larsson's series. I hope you enjoy Dragon Tattoo as much as I did. I am wanting to read Coben's Caught, too. I have met him and he is great in person, too.

I'm liking it :) Charlaine Harris is such an entertaining author. The family info, the 'down home' feeling, the humor.... I really like this author a lot. I'm also reading one of the Aurora Teagarden mysteries as well and finished the most recent Harper Connelly book about a month ago. Three series with three very different, yet likeable heroines.

The color photos really surprised me. Ansel Adams was a genius!

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) My favorite photo of his, in B & W, is: The Golden Gate Before the Bridge:

http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/lo...

BUT, you really have to see it in a larger size to appreciate it.

message 847: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow! Is that where the bridge is now?

I am so "immature" when it comes to photography, so I struggle to describe these images. He just had an eye for composing pictures! All great photographers do.

message 848: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Yes, That's where the bridge is now.

That is incredible. I love Adams' photographs. Incredible to think that now thousands of people travel over that piece of water each day!

(Now if I could only find a spare $32,000 I could hang that picture on my wall here at home!)

Hayes, That is so funny. I'd love it on my wall. He grew up near where I live now; his house is less than a mile from me, and even closer to the Golden Gate Bridge than my apartment. It's about a 5 to 10 minute drive to the San Francisco side of the bridge from where I am.
