What are you reading right now? (SEE NEW THREAD)

I got my copy in the mail today!"
Read it now, Christine, pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaase!......"
Well, I'm only half-way through, slow reading for even me, and I have to say I'm not loving it like I did The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox. If I had to rate it right now, it would probably be a 3. It does seem a bit better right now, so maybe the rating will improve. I see you gave it a 4. Any thoughts on it?

Kathy, I'm sorry to hear this O'Farrell book is not grabbing you. Is it still a three for you?

I liked it, Lee. I would still say that The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox was my favorite, but this was a good one in my opinion.
The memory loss stuff is fascinating to me, Barb. I felt pretty grabbed by that whole thing. I don't want to add any type of spoiler though, so I won't comment on my feelings about how it wrapped up.

Oh my, Lee and Christine, no longer a three! The last half, probably a little before that, took off like a rocket. I'm still having trouble deciding on a rating, though. This book made me mad, glad, happy, sad, frustrated, anxious, and I'm sure more. Any book that does that is a great read, right? But, in view of the fact that the first third or so of the book went rather slow may keep it from getting a five. And, of course, I'm still mad at the author some of the events of the novel. LOL!
Oh, Lee, be sure and have a hankie handy!

You might want to have a punching bag close, too. I really ran the gambit of emotions on this one.

Sounds like it will be right up my alley Kathy.

Amelia, I read quite a bit of speculative fiction but have never tried any of L.E. Modesitt's work. Does he write traditional fantasy? Are you enjoying the series?

I am starting Girl in Translation
, which was my UPS attack book. It looks like it may be a comfort read. I'll let you know.

And BTW Katri, I think it's so cool that you can speak six languages. I only speak English (being American and all...) and Japanese since I've lived here for twenty years and my husband and kids are Japanese citizens. And I still have Japanese people complimenting me on being able to write my own address (rolls eyes)! I guess some people just don't make the effort to learn, even if they live in a foreign country.

It's really good so far, Lee!

That does not sound promising; I hate one-sided books, especially when they deal with controversial problems and situations.
I finished Thursday Next #3. I think I will call it quits here. Amusing, but repetitive and too long.
Will now read Absent in the Spring by Mary Westmacott, aka Agatha Christie. I learned that Christie wrote under a pseudonym very recently. I hope it's good.

lovely book Mary. Hayes, looking forward for your review on Westmacoott's book. I didn't know Agatha Christie had a pen name.

I read by Westmacott years ago and enjoyed it. Totally different from her mysteries.

Sorry for the garbled post -- the add book feature is acting up.

Is that happening again? There was a problem with it all of yesterday. I would suggest letting GR staff know. Then, empty your cache and restart your browser. That's what I had to do yesterday, I guess their system is still not fixed.

I think I'm starting Inside the Gas Chambers: Eight Months in the Sonderkommando of Auschwitz today.
But a friend of mine has a copy of This World We Live In which my library STILL DOESN'T HAVE and I'll get it when she's done. Whatever I'm reading, I'll probably drop and read it. I have a few books out from the library or will during the week, and a bunch of picture books too. But I have a busy weekend (at home) so not as much time to read as I'd hoped.

After I recover from O'Farrell's latest, The Hand That First Held Mine, I'd like to read this one, Mary.
I'm starting Let the Great World Spin
. Hopefully I'll get some reading done while my daughter is at swim team. I'll have some time to kill.

I'd like to see how many stars you give it.
I try to write a line or two when I finish a book, but I don't read as many books as you do. :)

I know I should write more reviews but sometimes I'm just itching to get to the next one. I guess a line or two is better than nothing.

That's what I think, too. I like to go back and read why I gave a book the rating I did.

That is one of my favourite books!!!

I am wondering about this one, Christine. Let me know what you think of it.
Thanks Lisa, Gundula! I couldn't resist any longer. :)

Kathy, I'm only 85 pages in but it's really grabbed me. Very good so far.

I loved this! Hope you like it as well Christine.
It's starting off really good. I'm anxious to get back to it.

Interesting so far. I was almost expecting Miss Marple to show up in the first few pages.
Absent in the Spring is the description, using flashbacks, of a woman who is slowly coming to grips with herself and how she controlled her family and her inability to deal with reality. Very well done, and not what I expected at all.

That sounds really good Chrissie. I think I'll have to read it as well!
