Ellie, I am so curious to know what you think about the White Rose book you have chosen. This is the one I can get on KIndle!

Maude | 479 comments Ivan, Sorry to miss your post from yesterday. I signed off because I was so busy with other things. I don't remember who played him. Was it Max von Sydow? This was a heartbreaking movie which depicted real life. But what an amazing man! As well as those nurses that helped him write. I would have lost my mind repeating the alphabet as much as they did.

Kimberly I'm reading Baby, It's Cold Outside Blame It on the Blizzard\Deep Freeze\Melting Point by Jennifer Greene There's Something About Christmas by Debbie Macomber and No Disrespect by Sister Souljah .
I'm getting in the Christmas spirit early this year and I love Debbie Macomber's Christmas novels. She's one of my favourite comfort reads authors.

Ah, yes, I need to pick out a Christmas novel, too, Kimberly.

Okay, that's it. I have to order the first one of that series. No more messing around!

How's this one going, Kathy? I love the series, but I'm only up to #5 and the later books seem to have mixed reviews.

message 5062: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments I'm only 70 pages in, but it's pretty good so far. The main complaint that I've heard about Pirate Kingis the lack of Sherlock Holmes in it. I love Russell and Holmes together, so I may be having that complaint, too.

Kim (kimmr) | 931 comments Kathy wrote: "I love Russell and Holmes together ..."

Same here. Oh well, I still have quite a lot of reading to do before I get up to this one. I hope you enjoy it, Kathy.

Which RIchard Jury are you reading Priya? I always think I should re-read the earlier volumes in the series; some of them were outstanding!

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Priya wrote: "I Just finished Mistress Of the Art of Death and I'm reading a Martha grimes Richard Jury- re-reading it."

Priya, I loved Mistress of the Art of Death and the three subsequent novels in that series. Sadly, Ariana Franklin, the pen name for Diana Norman, died last January. I was so sad that this great talent had died and that there will never be any more in this series now after A Murderous Procession.

Haven't tried glass blowers although I have it. Loved Rebecca, didn't like "frenchman's," liked "Rachel" and liked The Scapegoat, which was, if I'm not greatly mistaken, made into a movie starring Alec Guinness.

It holds up so well. I've gotten something different from it each time I've read it. Fun to read it "with" your daughter!

I picked up The Ginger Tree which came for me through Interlibrary loan yesterday and read a few pages. I love it so far! I'm supposed to be reading a few other books but I might keep going with this instead.

message 5082: by [deleted user] (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) I'm just staring Little Bee for my next real world book club meeting in 2 weeks. I hope I like it. So far I like the voices but I don't like the hype around the secrecy of the plot. I'll have to see.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, Kathy. "Mistress of the Art of Death" was one of those un-put-a-downable books for me, one that I'm still handing around to people who haven't yet read it. Have you read her earlier Makepeace series, a trilogy starting with "A Catch of Consequence"? I shall miss Diana Norman, the anticipation of a new work and the art of her story-telling...

Maudie (MaudieMac) | 57 comments "The Sunne in Splendor," Sharon Kay Penman

I am currently re-reading this superb novel of Richard III, Edward IV and the mayhem the bloody battles of the Wars of the Roses did ensure. The first time around, I read quickly because I was greedy for the next word. This time, I am reading slowly in order to savor the next word. Dickon and Edward are too rich to be squandered.

I really liked this one, although the secret plot thing was obviously just to get attention for the book. I don't think it was any more shocking than other things I've read.

I have had this one waiting on the back burner for so long, since I read Josephine Tey's The Daughter of Time and became very interested in Richard III. I will make it a priority in 2012. Thanks for the good words about it, Maudie.

I found they compared very well, Kathy, and had that same "I want to know more" quality that the Adelia series contained. Makepeace Hedley is an intriguing protagonist and quite different from Adelia except for their intelligence, will and determination. I believe you will enjoy meeting Makepeace...

The trilogy:

"A Catch of Consquence"
"Taking Liberties"
"The Sparks Fly Upward"

I almost envy you your journey through "The Sunne in Splendor"...you will just be starting a great read and I'm almost finished with it...again! (Big Smile)

message 5094: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Just started Up Jumps the Devil Up Jumps the Devil (Deborah Knott Mysteries, #4) by Margaret Maron . I have a personal challenge this year called "batting clean-up" where I'm finishing everything I have not yet read of authors I'd already read most of. Margaret Maron is one of them. It's been a while since I read her-- I'd forgotten how much like her!

Hmmmm, I'll have to check my series shelf and see what I can do. Some of mine have quite a few books left to go in them.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Thanks for the info, Maudie. I've put the Makepeace series on my wish list on Amazon.

message 5099: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (bookworm1987) I'm still reading "Madame Tussaud" however, I'm also reading Please Look After Mom I'm enjoying this one. Its kind of making me hungry for Ramen though, wrong food craving, this week I should be craving Thanksgiving food, but I'm craving Ramen. The benefits of being sick is getting to read extra so after that is Linger and A Poisoned Season (speaking of finishing a series I've started!) My problem is though, I'm going to have to go back and read all the beginning books so I can remember what happened before, I also need to finish the "Hannah Swenson" mystery series... see what I mean? I almost prefer single novels as opposed to series, I also have to finish Pretty Little Liars...
