Patricia Bracewell's Shadow on the Crown is a great book about Emma of Normandy with a sequel coming out soon (same topic as the Hollick novels). I will assume that you are aware of Bernard Cornwell's Saxon series for a great pre-Conquest story. James Aitcheson also has a well-written 1066 series that starts with Sworn Sword.

Lariela | 10 comments I've read the first book Ms. Bracewell's book series. Currently waiting for my library to get The Empty Throne. Will look up Sworn Sword. Thanks.

You might also look into Edwin: High King of Britain and 1066: What Fates Impose.

Patricia Finney (writing as PF Chisholm) has a series of historical mysteries starring the swashbuckling Robert Carey, Mary Boleyn's grandson. I've only read one (A Murder of Crows), which was good fun.
