There's a nonfiction book about Brandon by S. J. Gunn. It's rather expensive used, but you might be able to get a copy at a university library or through inter-library loan.

Anna (stregamari) | 2 comments I bet it was beautiful Mary. I still have all of our old books from when we were kids, the books illustrated by howard pyle and wyeth. My dad was an avid reader and passed his curse on. :) I love the books on gutenberg.org, there's so much we knew! Makes me wish for a hive mind

Check out Diane Haeger's book "The Perfect Royal Mistress" about Nell Gwynne.

There's Blood Royal: A True Tale of Crime and Detection in Medieval Paris, which is non-fiction about the mad Charles VI and his family.

Also Eleanor of Provence, as well as the ill-fated Arthur Duke of Brittany and his courageous sister Eleanor. (SO many Eleanors!) Had to go back to figure out who "he" you meant.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Fi...

Title
Duke of Richmond and Somerset
Earl of Nottingham

He was best known as Richmond, though.

He also held several offices:
Lord High Admiral of England, Lord President of the Council of the North, and Warden of the Marches. Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland.

KOMET | 71 comments I wonder if there is a novel about the Emperor Frederick III of Prussia (father of Kaiser Wilhelm II) and the relationship he had with his wife, the Princess Victoria (eldest child of Queen Victoria). From what I know about them, both tried to promote liberalism within Prussia --- and later, Germany, following unification in 1871. But when you have a formidable figure like Otto von Bismarck, the 'Iron Chancellor' as an effective block, drama ensues.

Sad that Frederick was to reign as German Emperor for only 88 days.

The Emperor Frederick III died painfully from a debilitating illness that made it difficult for him to breathe and eat.

Hi Christina,

I've just taken a look at the trilogy and I am MUCH INTRIGUED by them. They bring to mind the series "The Fall of Eagles" that I remember watching on public TV here in the States back in the '70s. I will be adding the trilogy to my New Year's Book List.

Frederick III

Samantha (samanthajw) | 35 comments I have been searching for nonfiction or quality fiction (not PG) about Margaret Pole. So far, I have come up with Margaret Pole, Countess of Salisbury 1473-1541: Loyalty, Lineage and Leadership and The Last Plantagenet (which I would not qualify as good). I am hoping for tidbits about her in The Last White Rose: Dynasty, Rebellion And Treason The Secret Wars Against The Tudors and The First Queen of England: The Myth of "Bloody Mary". Any other suggestions?

Margaret George's novel on Elizabeth I strongly features Lettice Knollys, the daughter of Catherine Carey.

Philippa Gregory's The Boleyn Inheritance and The Virgin's Lover apparently feature Catherine Carey.

And of course Mary Boleyn herself is a main character in The Other Boleyn Girl.

As for non-fiction, there are two biographies on Mary Boleyn: Mary Boleyn: The Mistress of Kings and Mary Boleyn: The True Story of Henry VIII's Favourite Mistress

Yes, Nona - Stuarts, Hapsburgs, and Romanovs; maybe also some French royalty; The Romanov Sisters is out now; and Massey's books about Peter the Great, Catherine the Great, and 2 on the Romanovs; I read his book on the Romanovs (what happened after their assassination) and it is fascinating!

You could also try The Forever Queen. That is pre-conquest. I think others by Helen Hollick also cover this period.
