I'd like to read more about the Anglo-Saxon Queens, Capetian Queens of France, and the house of Burgundy in Castile.

I'd like to read --- either in novel form or as a work of non-fiction --- a book about HENRI IV of FRANCE.
I can't seem to find much on Charles Brandon, husband of Mary Tudor and companion to Henry VIII.Mostly, he seems to be mentioned only briefly in some books on the Tudors.I have spoken to other Tudor fans and there seems to be a lack of info out there about him.
I'd love to know if there are any biographies and novels available about the life of King Friedrich Wilhelm I of Prussia (1688-1740).
I would like to read more on French royalty (outside of Louis XIV, XVI and Marie Antoinette). I am reading the Accursed Kings series but would like to find some more books.

J. Gunn. It's rather expensive used, but you might be able to get a copy at a university library or through inter-library loan.
I already know about Gunn's book. That's why I was looking for another source.I may be able to go through my library. Thanks for mentioning it though,Susan!
regarding Charles Brandon;there's a book on gutenberg project entitled "When Knighthood Was in Flower / or, the Love Story of Charles Brandon and Mary Tudor the King's Sister, and Happening in the Reign of His August Majesty King Henry the Eighth" which I was able to download. I haven't looked at the book itself though

I'd like to see a novel about the life and times of CHARLES I of AUSTRIA. He was also the last ruler of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Had the Classics Illustrated version of "When Knighthood...". It was probably the source of my fascination with all things Tudor.
I bet it was beautiful Mary. I still have all of our old books from when we were kids, the books illustrated by howard pyle and wyeth. My dad was an avid reader and passed his curse on. :) I love the books on gutenberg.org, there's so much we knew! Makes me wish for a hive mind

Hi Tabitha,
Check out Diane Haeger's book "The Perfect Royal Mistress" about Nell Gwynne.
Brett wrote: "I would like to read more on French royalty (outside of Louis XIV, XVI and Marie Antoinette). I am reading the Accursed Kings series but would like to find some more books."There's Blood Royal: A True Tale of Crime and Detection in Medieval Paris, which is non-fiction about the mad Charles VI and his family.

Also Eleanor of Provence, as well as the ill-fated Arthur Duke of Brittany and his courageous sister Eleanor. (SO many Eleanors!) William the Conqueror and Queen Victoria and Matilda the Empress (Chadwick's book did not grasp me.) My list is long...
Nona wrote: "the Stuarts, the Hapsburgs and the Romanovs. I know little of them and yet find them interesting."I agree, Nina. The Romanovs, especially.

Had to go back to figure out who "he" you meant.

Title
Duke of Richmond and Somerset
Earl of Nottingham
He was best known as Richmond, though.
He also held several offices:
Lord High Admiral of England, Lord President of the Council of the North, and Warden of the Marches. Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland.
Prince Amedeo of Savoy-Aosta (21 October 1898 – 3 March 1942). He was the first cousin (once removed) of Italy's last king, Victor Emmanuel III. His full name was Amedeo Umberto Isabella Luigi Filippo Maria Giuseppe Giovanni di Savoia-Aosta.
KOMET wrote: "Prince Amedeo of Savoy-Aosta (21 October 1898 – 3 March 1942). He was the first cousin (once removed) of Italy's last king, Victor Emmanuel III. His full name was Amedeo Umberto Isabella Luigi F..."Whoa. Why did he have two female names in his full name?
KOMET wrote: "I'd like to read more (especially in terms of novels) about the House of Hohenzollern, with special emphasis on the life of Kaiser Wilhelm I (1797-1888)."KOMET, I looked and could not find a nonfictional biography on Frederich Wilhelm I, but I did find The Soldier Kings (The House of Hohenzollern), if that has something yourre looking for in it.
Are there any books on Joanna, Queen of Sicily, Richard the Lionheart's sister, other than The Queen's Daughter?
Molly wrote: "Are there any books on Joanna, Queen of Sicily, Richard the Lionheart's sister, other than The Queen's Daughter?"She figures prominently in Sharon Kay Penman's two novels on Richard the Lionheart - Lionheart and A King's Ransom
I wonder if there is a novel about the Emperor Frederick III of Prussia (father of Kaiser Wilhelm II) and the relationship he had with his wife, the Princess Victoria (eldest child of Queen Victoria). From what I know about them, both tried to promote liberalism within Prussia --- and later, Germany, following unification in 1871. But when you have a formidable figure like Otto von Bismarck, the 'Iron Chancellor' as an effective block, drama ensues. Sad that Frederick was to reign as German Emperor for only 88 days.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The Emperor Frederick III died painfully from a debilitating illness that made it difficult for him to breathe and eat.
Of all the royal families of Europe, the Hohenzollerns are probably the LEAST covered in fiction (to the best of my knowledge).
Frederick III
The 'Shattered Crowns' trilogy - The Scapegoats, The Sacrifice & The Betrayal - focusses on Kaiser Wilhelm II.(It's a plug since I am the author, but it's also relevant :-))

Hi Christina,
I've just taken a look at the trilogy and I am MUCH INTRIGUED by them. They bring to mind the series "The Fall of Eagles" that I remember watching on public TV here in the States back in the '70s. I will be adding the trilogy to my New Year's Book List.

She also figures ( importantly though not really prominently) in Norah Lofts' wonderful 'Queen in Waiting' ( aka Eleanor the Queen)
I have been searching for nonfiction or quality fiction (not PG) about Margaret Pole. So far, I have come up with Margaret Pole, Countess of Salisbury 1473-1541: Loyalty, Lineage and Leadership and The Last Plantagenet (which I would not qualify as good). I am hoping for tidbits about her in The Last White Rose: Dynasty, Rebellion And Treason The Secret Wars Against The Tudors and The First Queen of England: The Myth of "Bloody Mary". Any other suggestions?
Looking for books on the Carey's Anne Boleyn's sister's family.Anything is helpful.Fiction or non-fiction?
Juliew. wrote: "Looking for books on the Carey's Anne Boleyn's sister's family.Anything is helpful.Fiction or non-fiction?"Margaret George's novel on Elizabeth I strongly features Lettice Knollys, the daughter of Catherine Carey.
Philippa Gregory's The Boleyn Inheritance and The Virgin's Lover apparently feature Catherine Carey.
And of course Mary Boleyn herself is a main character in The Other Boleyn Girl.
As for non-fiction, there are two biographies on Mary Boleyn: Mary Boleyn: The Mistress of Kings and Mary Boleyn: The True Story of Henry VIII's Favourite Mistress
Nona wrote: "the Stuarts, the Hapsburgs and the Romanovs. I know little of them and yet find them interesting."
Yes, Nona - Stuarts, Hapsburgs, and Romanovs; maybe also some French royalty; The Romanov Sisters is out now; and Massey's books about Peter the Great, Catherine the Great, and 2 on the Romanovs; I read his book on the Romanovs (what happened after their assassination) and it is fascinating!

I wonder if there are any biographies or novels about the life of King Albert I of Belgium (1875-1934).

Yes, of course. I have also read Lady of the English.

You could also try The Forever Queen. That is pre-conquest. I think others by Helen Hollick also cover this period.

Been there, read that. It's on the book shelf with the others.
